This collection contains one of Søren's confessions, one of Nora's and a Q&A with Tiffany Reisz and one of her beta readers. I'm SUPER excited about it because it just might mean more of Anna Strong, which I thought ended in 2013. This short is a nice bridge to what could be the beginning of a series continuation.
Anna's in France with family when several girls go missing. She teams with up Vlad to stop it from continuing and hopefully save her niece's friend. What happens between the two is a shock to Anna (view spoiler)[
~ Vlad wants to rule with Anna
"From the moment I saw you, I knew. Since my wife centuries ago, you are the first woman whom I could love as an equal."
~ Anna's shocked, understandably, because he knows she's in love with and faithful to her new husband, Frey; they're just starting their life together with his son JJ
~ She does owe him a debt for his help in the past - he's helped save those she loves, so she agrees to help him vanquish the vampires responsible for the kidnappings, but nothing else:
"If I do this [...] It will be the last thing I can do for you. It will mean the end of our friendship. And it can never be known that I was with you when the six are vanquished."
~ He promises, but still believes they'll see each other again
~ He also abdicates to Amélie and Alexander; he's leaving France (hide spoiler)]

A changeling will do anything to find and keep his mate in this smoldering story from New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh.
Bastien Smith is frustrated. A changeling male should be able to track his mate anywhere—through fire and hail, snow and rain. But he keeps finding and losing her scent in the city streets, ever since he first became aware of it two weeks earlier, when the elusive fragrance awakened the leopard within him...
Then Bastien is suddenly confronted with his prey. Kirby is an all-too-human woman who wants Bastien just as much as he wants her. But he can’t deny what his body and senses are telling him: there is a raging chaos inside of Kirby that he doesn’t understand, secrets that whisper awake at midnight and cause her terrible pain. If they’re to have any chance of forever, then he must solve the mystery that is Kirby...

... she wanted to drink pain and Marcus…her Marcus, his pain was the finest of vintages. Old pain, well-ripened, seasoned with sex and betrayal and sadism—her favorite flavors.
With the series complete, I was happily surprised to receive another annual holiday OS snack from Tiffany Reisz. This short takes fans back in time a bit - Søren, a twenty year old seminarian, visits Magdalena, his sadist mentor, on Christmas.
... when one slept with masochists, one must be cruel as a rule. Kindness was always the exception.
Nevertheless, this Christmas these two sadists were able to provide the other with exactly what they needed to get through what is normally a difficult time of year for them. It was a touching story of two who, so very used to causing pain, were able to, at least momentarily, ease the pain of another....more

Are you the type of Kate Daniels fan that loves not only the main couple, but the side characters as well? If so, reading Magic Stars is a no-brainer! In fact, I'll go so far as to say it's a must-read.
He was the Grey Wolf in the city; the one who came and found you if you fucked up and hurt the wrong people. He helped those who needed it. He stood between those who were hurt and those who did the hurting. He removed threats, and soon his name alone would be enough of a deterrent.
Magic Stars is the beginning of a (please, please, please!) new spin-off/sub series featuring Derek - "Scarred, solitary Derek Gaunt has separated from his Pack, and is truly a lone wolf" and Julie - "Curran and Kate’s very independent ward".
"I'm the Herald. I serve the Guardian of the City."
Julie has a shiny new title and the magic to follow it up. She's truly grown into her own and boy, does she shine! Derek has always been a favorite side character of mine.
For some people, the stars aligned and everything went right. For him everything went wrong, every time. When he wanted something, when he reached for it, life broke him, yet somehow he always survived.
I'm over the moon with this new storyline and hope it continues! The possibility is there, according to Ilona,
To those of you who asking if there will be Grey Wolf 2, the answer is we’ll see. I am not trying to be evasive, but it depends on sales of Magic Stars, which I suspect are really good, and whether or not we can come up with a cool story line for Derek’s future adventures. It probably won’t happen in the very near future.
I'm okay with that because it just means that we'll get more full-length Kate and Innkeeper novels and, eventually, more Hidden Legacy novels while we wait.

The first series being AllieBack Lash is the first in a (potentially) new series by Devon Monk. She says, "Think of it as a spin-off of my spin-off." The first series being Allie Beckstrom, the spin-off Broken Magic and Shame & Terric spun out from that.
Magic wasn't a blessing with drawbacks, it was a curse with upsides.
Back Lash picks up about a year after the events of Stone Cold(view spoiler)[ - Shame and Terric broke magic and made it so that they were the only two people who could use it - (hide spoiler)]. The story told revolves around the discovery of bodies - people obviously killed by magic, which shouldn't be possible.
In addition, fans of these series get to catch up with their favorite characters, including Davy and Sunny, Detective Stotts and meet Terric's sister, Jolie.
I'm guessing the reason behind the spin-off² is that she'd felt Broken Magic concluded with Stone Cold, yet found there was still some Shame and Terric stories to be told. Back Lash was also her "... first foray into publishing some of my work [herself]".As a fan of all these series and their characters, I'm happy to take whatever she's willing to give me. Spin away!
From Nov Newsletter: "If you enjoy BACK LASH, and it sells well enough, I'll write a second, longer Shame and Terric novel to be published along with BACK LASH in both ebook and print next year." I'm hoping the book does well (go buy it!) so there'll be more to come. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

When she says, "one night", she means One Night. Super short short. I'm a big fan of this series, but the previous installments have always had a bit more getting-to-know-ya before the nice-to-feel-ya. However, within this mini, Mina managed to work in a quick PPA mission, touch on the history between these two and heat up the pages.
Raterrenh (Rat) was among the PPA operatives that rescued Babylonia (Baby) from the Dragos magician. Since then he's been unable to stop thinking about the beautiful shadow-dragon queen and she's ignored the spark between them. A dragon queen and a demon prince would surely be a bad pairing, right?
For this one night the two ditch their concerns and give in to their desires -- the consequences, if any, can be dealt with in the morning. ...more

Each installment draws you further into the world of these supernaturals. My Brother's Keeper is no different. It picks up where My Savior left off with a surprise visit from Keelan's big brother Kendrick from Storm Keep.
The events in book 4 have left the gang heart-hurt and in search of a way to correct what's been done to one of their own. Chances of succeeding in this greatly improve when Kendrick arrives. His magical abilities far surpass those of any witch serving one of the units.
Anne Bennett, human nurse and Keelan's mate, recently arrived at the mansion as well to do whatever she could to help. As with all of the other members of Alpha Unit, Keelan had been dreaming of Anne, which had always led to the men to find their mate. Their case is slightly different, however. Neither has romantic feelings for the other, but they do form a strong friendship. She's a bit taken aback by Kendrick, who looks very similar to Keelan. So similar that HE could be her mate and not Keelan?
I'm anxious for the next installment, My Guardian . Beth has been summoned to Noctem Falls by her uncle and told to bring Meryn along. Magic for a Price is the final book in Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series. I got a late start to this series, but my procrastination to start it paidMagic for a Price is the final book in Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series. I got a late start to this series, but my procrastination to start it paid off because I was able to jump from book to book without a single minutes wait. And, it was glorious. Each book ends on a cliffhanger - each cliff and its hang varied, but I do not envy those who had to wait between installments.
Magic for a Price picks up days after Magic Without Mercy. Allie and gang are recuperating and dealing with the aftereffects of a major magical battle. In Allie's world, "The first rule of magic is if you use magic, it uses you. There is always a price to pay for using magic. Always." This fact really set the tone for the unique world Monk created with this series. Throughout each book and the battles fought in them, the characters' price for using magic changes them - sometimes for the better, sometimes not.
I'd accrued quite a list of questions throughout this series and Monk did a great job of answering them in a very fluid manner throughout the finale. Similar to Monk's House Immortal series, this series' side characters are as big a part to the story as the mains, in my opinion. They are all well hashed out with their own journeys and growth throughout the series.
Speaking of side characters, I'm so happy I don't have to leave Allie's world entirely just yet - I have the spin-off Broken Magic (featuring Shame and Terric) duet to read next. And, in Monk's last newsletter, she announced a spin-off spin-off, of sorts. (view spoiler)[
I wrote a new Shame and Terric novel!
BACK LASH will be available as an ebook in November 2015 and I hope to heck all you Shame and Terric fans will enjoy it.Those folks who haven't read any Shame and Terric books (HELL BENT, STONE COLD) should be able to pick this one up and jump right in too, as it really is a stand-alone that takes place a year after STONE COLD ends.
Think of it as a spin-off of my spin-off.
This is my first foray into publishing some of my work myself, and I have some really cool new projects lined up for 2016, which I will (of course) announce here first.
At this time, BACK LASH is going to be digital only. Sometime next year, I might be able to go print with it. I'll keep you all up to date on that as things progress.
