Thanks to the creator of this book page for offering a way to share my flashback with my GR buddies.
I'm a very soft rater. It doesn't take a lot to make me happy. If I had a good time escaping into your book, chances are your book got 3-4 stars. If I loved my trip and want to revisit the world again and again - 5 stars. If I read it, but miss the time it took me to do so, well, that'll get ya 1-2 stars.
As a serious series addict, most of my lists revolve around - surprise - series! Now, on to the lists! (books in no particular order)

Kindle Freebies that surprised me:
Finally, since I do occasionally venture outside the world of the paranormal, here are some of my favorite contemporary romance reads: • J.M. Madden's Lost and Found [Military RS] • Emma Chase's Tangled series, which I finished in 2014 [Humorous ER] • Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners ~ The White Years series is one of my favorites [ER] • Cherise Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands series better go on forever b/c I cannot imagine a world without these hot Doms and their sassy subs [ER] • Nalini Singh's Rock Kiss series started off a little bumpy for me, but this novella reminded me why I shouldn't snub anything written by her [NA-CR] • Lexi Blake's Masters and Mercenaries series can sometimes be a frustrating read for me. I love her Doms and their missions, but I enjoy her Doms and their subs more. Sometimes the big baddies' story encroaches a bit too much on my D/s time [ER/RS]
Well, if ya stuck with me this far, thanks for celebrating my favorite reads of 2014! If not, who can blame ya, I ramble. :D
Cheers and Happy New Year! May your 2015 overflow with 5-star reads, great new author finds and series you cannot wait to return to and re-read again and again....more

(view spoiler)[ Griffin had inherited The 8th Circle from Kingsley. The club was his responsibility and it took more of his time than Griffin ever dreamed it would. Wrangling wayward submissives and putting pro-Doms into place and planning private parties and wooing new clients…Griffin had a new respect for Kingsley after all that. It was fun, empowering. And Griffin loved it. But what he hadn’t loved was the time it took away from him and Mick.
Nico. King’s son. She’s [Nora's] fucking King’s son Nico. Not just fucking him. She collared him. She owns him.
King and Søren are together again. Like for real for real. Which is why Søren’s so happy and horny all the time, and Nora’s so happy and horny, because she had a sub now and it’s…oh my God, it’s insane. Søren has King and Nora. Nora has Søren and Nico and King has Juliette and Søren and it’s like the sexiest love hexagon ever. (hide spoiler)]
“Christmas in Suite 37A”: Part 1 : Blue Christmas Read @ 16 Dec 2014 (view spoiler)[Griffin is staying with Nora. Mick has left for Europe. He requested no contact and, so far, Grif has been able to respect his wish. But, it's been 3 months and he's aching for his sub.
Nora takes Grif to Søren's Christmas Mass. While there, she convinces him that he should at least text Mick and see what happens. (hide spoiler)]
Part 2 : Silver Bells Read @ 19 Dec 2014 (view spoiler)[Griffin rec'd a reply to his text. Mick has agreed to meet him. He's over the moon and believes it to be an answered Christmas wish.
Determined to make the time together special, he asks Mick to meet him at a place that holds a lot of meaning for Grif - Suite 37A at the Waldorf.
Mick and Grif share a meal, chat about what's happened to both during their separation. Mick explains why it was important for him to leave:
“Nora…” Mick began and met Griffin’s eyes. “She told me a long time ago that the reason she left Father S was because there was someone she needed to be, and she couldn’t be that person and be with Father S at the same time. And that’s why I asked for the break from you. Because there was someone I had to be, and you weren’t letting me be him.”
Part 3 : White Christmas Read @ 22 Dec 2014 (view spoiler)[Mick and Grif retire to Suite 37A. Griffin gives Mick his present. It's a letter he wrote ten years ago. He knows he wrote it for Mick.
Dear Whoever is Reading This, I'm in love with you.
I don't know you yet, but I'm going to keep this letter until I meet you.
While staying with King, Griffin, in a coke-induced haze, wrecked his home. King took him to the Waldorf, this very suite 37A, and asked Griffin if he had anything worth living for. Griffin's answer, 'You.' So, the night before heading to rehab, Grif wrote this letter knowing that one day he would find his love.
The two, having worked through the issues that lead to the separation are Dom and sub once again. Not all of the stories focusKiss of Christmas Magic was a delicious holiday treat (20 stories) offered, for a limited time, for the low price of 99¢. Not all of the stories focused on Christmas, but they all had a wintery feel, which was perfect for this time of year. It gave me the opportunity to read stories by many new2me authors; some I'll follow, some I won't.
Anthology Breakdown (Links to individual shorts included when available on GR)
Eve Langlais ~ Caribou's Gift ★★★★☆ This former soldier isn’t about to play the part of a reindeer in a parade–until he spots the hot single mom in charge of it.
I'm a big fan of Eve's writing. This short is book 3.5 in her Kodiak Point series. I'll definitely be starting at the beginning and following this series.
Believe it or not, this is the first story I've read by Mandy Roth. This story piqued my interest enough to see if it was part of a series, but it doesn't appear to be. I felt the story started off great. I liked all of the characters. But, the second half felt very rushed and disjointed. But, I liked her writing style and will look at some of her other works.
Viola Rivard ~ Lost In Winter ★★★☆☆ Lost in the snow-locked mountains with her niece, a young woman finds hope in a handsome, enigmatic bear shifter.
(New2me author) I really liked Viola's writing style and will look for add'l works. The story was short, but sweet.
Deanna Chase ~ Kissed by Temptation ★★★½☆ Ordered to a holiday sorority party by the angelic council, Mati’s night turns from bad to worse when a demon appears to take a new angel recruit to Hell.
(New2me author) I liked this short. I'm a fan of stories featuring demons vs angels.
Michele Bardsley – Bear Witness ★★★☆☆ When Gretchen goes on the run with her murdered sister’s baby, only Rafe has the skills to keep her safe from the superhuman hunters who want her dead.
I enjoyed this intro to Pearson Security and look forward to reading more.
V. M. Black – A Heart in Winter ★★☆☆☆ Lady Marston is dying–but a mysterious doctor claims that he can save her life. At what cost to her love and her family will come the cure?
(New2me author) This rating is a case of "It's not you, it's me". This wasn't bad, but not my cuppa.
Aubrey Rose & Molly Prince ~ Alpha's First Christmas ★★★☆☆ When Natalie discovers that the Scraptown Pack has never celebrated Christmas, she decides to convince their leader, her mate, Hutch, to do something about it.
(New2me authors) This was a cute story. I liked the writing and may pursue other books by these authors.
Terah Edun ~ witches shall rise ★★☆☆☆ Witch. Daughter. Queen. Katherine is a witch with a problem, the holidays have come up, and she knows bad blood with the fae shall rise.
(New2me author) I really enjoyed this short. I look forward to reading more in Chloe's Montana Wolves series.
Michelle M. Pillow ~ Everlastingly ★★★½☆ On the run, Maura seeks refuge in an abandoned farmhouse, where the signs keep pointing to Jack, whose very name fills her with longing.
This was an interesting ghost story. Parts were a bit confusing and hard to follow, but that was done intentionally, I'd imagine, so that we can experience Maura's confusion.
Shawntelle Madison ~ The Hunter's Moon ★★½☆☆ Kaden will do anything to protect his pack, including saving a dying werewolf hunter. But Cynthia would rather take him down than become his mate.
I really liked Alpha Kaden, but Cyn I did not. Maybe if I read the entire serial (Windham Werewolves) I'd feel differently, but she kinda ruined this one for me.
Angie Fox ~ A Ghostly Gift ★★★☆☆ When a spirit stirs up trouble in her friend’s holiday shop, Verity and her dead gangster friend discover a mystery a eight decades in the making.
Verity sees ghosts and she inadvertently releases a long-dead gangster. It was a decent short.
Mimi Strong ~ Love Singer ★★☆☆☆ A struggling musician discovers she’s a witch who can cast spells with her songs. Or at least that’s what her sexy professor says.
(New2me author) I didn't much care for this one.
J. S. Hope ~ Lord of Misrule Vol. One ★★★☆☆ Reporter Alessandra is in Venice chasing the story of her career, but she isn’t prepared for the passion and excess of the Saturnalia Festival–or the gorgeous cult leader Sebastian Assante.
(New2me author) I liked this one, but it was a bit disappointing to have another serial short in the anthology. It's really hard to get the gist of a story when you only have a single snapshot of it. I did like the writing though.
Jessa Slade ~ Blood Deep ★★★☆☆ A reporter searching for her missing mother finds a doorway to a realm where only a 700-year-old vampire can make her believe what she sees…and feels.
(New2me author) I liked the author's writing style. I have several of her other books TBR and look forward to checking them out shortly.
Dawn Michelle ~ Cold Winter’s Bite ★★★☆☆ Hunter has found the perfect girl to be the guest of honor at his holiday getaway. But can he sink his teeth in her before she sets her claws in him?
(New2me author) This was an odd, yet somewhat interesting story about shifters. Hunter and his partners are about to go on their annual hunting trip. This year, their prey just might bite back. It was easy to predict what would happen, but it didn't take away from the story. This was a hard short to rate for me b/c half the time I was shaking my head at the weirdness of the writing/story and the other half I was enjoying it. So, I'll settle on 3 stars.
(New2me author) This was a decent short. I liked the author's writing style and may check out her other works.
Jessica Ryan ~ Breaking The Stag ★★★★☆ Celeste is alone and trying to pick up the pieces of her life when she meets a mysterious and sexy stranger who has been there her entire life.
(New2me author) I really enjoyed this short. It felt long, but other stories in the anthology were longer. In it we got to know Celeste and the mysterious boy she meets one winter. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Once averaged, this anthology was a ★★★☆☆-read for me. I really enjoyed having this extensive anthology on-hand to read each night during the holidays. Most of the stories were a joy to read while some were a bit challenging to get through. But, I cannot complain. The price was perfect and, as I mentioned, it gave me the chance to check out some new2me authors....more

This installment is told from three different POVs: Caela (the Oracle, Carrie), Siren (the angel of honesty) and Bedlam (the chaos demon).
Following the events in Oracle of Philadelphia, Caela has decided a change of scenery is needed. Bedlam, knowing he could find her right away, chooses to give her some time to settle in wherever she's landed. In the meantime, he heads to the Morningstar Haven, a secluded mountain town sanctuary created by Lucifer. While there he overhears something that sets him on a mission to retrieve the Sword of Destiny before the archdemon Azrael. He's uncertain about his worthiness, but he knows Khet's life depends on it. So, he'll do whatever must be done.
I was excited to see book 2 was Bedlam's book because he was my favorite character in the first book. However, once I started, I was a bit disappointed to learn the book was told from several POVs. While the culmination of all three did finally merge at the end, I wasn't drawn to either Caela or Siren's storylines as much as Bedlam's. Siren's angelic stories were interesting, but Caela's attempt to live a somewhat normal human life in a new beach town felt off. I pushed myself to read her chapters when all I really wanted to do was skip over them.
For these reasons, despite my love for all things Bedlam and the highly anticipated third installment, which is hope features Gabriel, I have rated this book 3.5 stars [Bedlam POV: 5✯; Caela POV: 2✯; Siren POV: 3✯]. ...more

Females without mates to ground them often couldn't maintain control over the psychic storm going on in their heads ...
Kira is having rather sensual visions of a man she's never met. She's having trouble determining if what she's seeing is fiction or reality. One thing she knows for sure is this man is her true mate. She also knows he's not part of her clan, Clan MacDonald a community of psychics. And, there's a law against interclan breeding.
Lucas is a black cougar and Guardian, protector of clan secrets. He's being held captive, but by who? Lucas' brother, Malcolm, was banished for loving someone outside of his clan and now Lucas finds his mate outside of the clan as well. How could this happen?
I enjoyed this intro and will most like continue on with the series to learn more about Lucas and his brothers.

She's run away from her pack, mainly her cruel alpha father, and now spends her time working as a park ranger. She's been avoiding weres for ten years and chooses to get her "pack fix" from books instead.
While sitting in a bookstore reading one of Patricia Briggs' books, she spots a man with a dog. Well, it's not a dog, it's a werewolf - on a leash. Chase introduces Wolfie (very original, I know), his milk brother (nursed by his mother, raised like a brother), and asks if they can talk to her. She's nervous but intrigued, so she takes them up on their offer. When Chase asks which pack she belongs to she freaks out and runs off. However, when she runs into these two again while visiting the family of her deceased sister she cannot run from the situation. Now it's personal.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I wish it was part of a series. It should be considering how it ended. I just checked Amazon and it's listed as the first book in a series - "Wolf Rampant" and Bloodling Wolf is listed as the prequel. I'm anxious to read more! ...more

Ysabel has been Lucifer's personal assistant for over five hundred years. Her term is finally reaching its end when she's told that five souls she had cursed have escaped Hell. Per the terms of her contract, her employment has been extended until they're caught. Not only must she hunt them down and send them back to Hell, she will also relive the moment of her death, daily, until they're returned. Lucifer sends Remy, a 1/2 demon tracker, with her to help locate the escapees.
She's a five hundred year old witch who has a hate on for men.
Having been burned by love in the past, Ysabel has sworn off men. She knows lovers can and do betray you. Before Ysabel, Remy couldn't imagine being tied to one woman. He's intrigued by her; she's the first to tell him no.
I know whenever I pick up a book by Eve Langlais I'm in for a fun read. This was no exception.

His family was killed by a rogue werewolf when he was a kid. When he and his partner are attacked by weres Duncan's life changes drastically.
Eden has created a world that I look forward to visiting again and again. The books are full of action, romance, and intrigue. The man in charge of the Para Unit, Eric Pate, reminds me a bit of Cat's uncle Don in Frost's Night Huntress series. Purgatory, modeled after Alcatraz, is a prison build specifically to house dangerous paranormals. It's been in operation for a year and while it seems to be running smoothly, Pate isn't so sure.
I have always been a fan of stories involving government paranormal agencies whose members are charged with protecting humans from all that goes bump in the night. Cynthia Eden's Purgatory series has quickly become one of my favorites. I read all three books in three days and am anxiously awaiting more.

She's always hated princes and princesses, so upon graduating from Fairy Godmother Inc. she requested a position as "godmother to the lowly". Her charges are "the bad boys of the Kingdom. The degenerates; low lifes, and naughty villains." She's recently been advised by Miriam the Shunned, fairy godmother of wishes and visions, that the Bad Five (Wolf, Hook, Jinni, Gerard and Hatter) must get hitched within a years time or suffer great misfortune.
Love might never tame the beast fully, but it would certainly temper the wildness in each of them.
Danika knows that Hatter's true match is Alice Hu. The only problem is that Hatter hates the original Alice Hu and her great-granddaughter, also named Alice, looks just like her. It will be a challenge getting Hatter to look past young Alice's appearance and realize she's his true love.
I really enjoyed tumbling down the rabbit hole with young Alice Hu. Marie Hall did a great job of portraying Hatter's madness and Wonderland on the page. I will continue the series to find out how the other Bad Boys find their true loves....more

Initially, I found the story to be a bit confusing. It's a short book (~ 120p), so I expected things to be made clearer sooner. Words were used to describe the world and the characters, but there was no explanation for the words, if that makes sense. Once I had a better understanding of the world, the story moved rather quickly and I enjoyed the ride.
I'm fascinated by the idea of interacting with others within shared dreams. I will definitely continue the series.

She works for the Affairs of the Dead and helps ghosts with their unresolved businessAffairs of the Dead introduces us to Necromancer Selene Vanream. She works for the Affairs of the Dead and helps ghosts with their unresolved business so they can move on.
You know you're in for a wild ride when, at the start of the book, the main character is at a strip club with a ghost who is stuck because she died a virgin. Selene is feeding Julia the ghost energy to make her more substantial and help her find a willing partner who will relieve her of her virginity, thus allowing her to move on.
Selene has a tendency to go above and beyond for the ghosts in her care. She will spend her own money, utilize and drain her personal power, basically anything she can legal or otherwise to help them. This causes problems for her at work. As a result, she's been demoted to track and retrieval. While on the hunt for ghosts who were hiding instead of reporting to Affairs of the Dead, she stumbles upon a man who appears to be a ghost, but insists he's not dead.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the world where ghosts and necromancers were "normal". Locke's descriptions of the necro businesses and their buildings, which draw ghosts to them, was very unique. I'm bummed to see that it is a stand alone and not the beginning of a series. Why isn't this a series? There was a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, so I'm hoping that means there is more to come. Pretty please!
Congressman Frank Bradley is well known by all Abnormals. He's known as the "Father of New Government" and creator of the Registry, which persecutes "Abbies". So, it's a surprise when he shows up at Niki's door begging for her help.
Niki seeks help from Sam. He tells her about angelwine - made from the blood of angels. He believes this may be what caused Bradley's odd transformation. He warns her that the group who deals angelwine, called The Blood, is to be avoided.
While I enjoyed this installment, I didn't like it as much as book 1, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. But, I am liking the way the story continues to evolve and how we continue to learn more about the characters and this world.

Makes sense, but what doesn't is this:
She'd never wanted to be involved in Budget Body Movers when her Uncle Fred and her mom were alive. But when they died she felt obligated to resign her teaching job and give it a shot. At the time she'd thought it would be a great way to conquer her fear of dead people. She certainly didn't need the money. They'd left her over two million dollars in life insurance.
This really doesn't make sense. Why does she need to conquer her fear of dead people? Because it fits the intended storyline. Why quit a job she loved to take over a job she never had any interest in doing, especially when she had $2M? Because it fits the intended storyline.
There were three things I liked about Budget Body Movers: the title, the cover and the concept. Unfortunately, the characters were flat and the story was predictable. In all honesty, if I hadn't chosen to read this as part of a challenge, I would have stopped around 25% into it.
While others may find it an enjoyable read I found it to be simply a quick read. Had the characters been more developed and the writing more polished, this definitely might have been a series I'd follow....more
