A changeling will do anything to find and keep his mate in this smoldering story from New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh.
Bastien Smith is frustrated. A changeling male should be able to track his mate anywhere—through fire and hail, snow and rain. But he keeps finding and losing her scent in the city streets, ever since he first became aware of it two weeks earlier, when the elusive fragrance awakened the leopard within him...
Then Bastien is suddenly confronted with his prey. Kirby is an all-too-human woman who wants Bastien just as much as he wants her. But he can’t deny what his body and senses are telling him: there is a raging chaos inside of Kirby that he doesn’t understand, secrets that whisper awake at midnight and cause her terrible pain. If they’re to have any chance of forever, then he must solve the mystery that is Kirby...

Are you the type of Kate Daniels fan that loves not only the main couple, but the side characters as well? If so, reading Magic Stars is a no-brainer! In fact, I'll go so far as to say it's a must-read.
He was the Grey Wolf in the city; the one who came and found you if you fucked up and hurt the wrong people. He helped those who needed it. He stood between those who were hurt and those who did the hurting. He removed threats, and soon his name alone would be enough of a deterrent.
Magic Stars is the beginning of a (please, please, please!) new spin-off/sub series featuring Derek - "Scarred, solitary Derek Gaunt has separated from his Pack, and is truly a lone wolf" and Julie - "Curran and Kate’s very independent ward".
"I'm the Herald. I serve the Guardian of the City."
Julie has a shiny new title and the magic to follow it up. She's truly grown into her own and boy, does she shine! Derek has always been a favorite side character of mine.
For some people, the stars aligned and everything went right. For him everything went wrong, every time. When he wanted something, when he reached for it, life broke him, yet somehow he always survived.
I'm over the moon with this new storyline and hope it continues! The possibility is there, according to Ilona,
To those of you who asking if there will be Grey Wolf 2, the answer is we’ll see. I am not trying to be evasive, but it depends on sales of Magic Stars, which I suspect are really good, and whether or not we can come up with a cool story line for Derek’s future adventures. It probably won’t happen in the very near future.
I'm okay with that because it just means that we'll get more full-length Kate and Innkeeper novels and, eventually, more Hidden Legacy novels while we wait.

The first series being AllieBack Lash is the first in a (potentially) new series by Devon Monk. She says, "Think of it as a spin-off of my spin-off." The first series being Allie Beckstrom, the spin-off Broken Magic and Shame & Terric spun out from that.
Magic wasn't a blessing with drawbacks, it was a curse with upsides.
Back Lash picks up about a year after the events of Stone Cold(view spoiler)[ - Shame and Terric broke magic and made it so that they were the only two people who could use it - (hide spoiler)]. The story told revolves around the discovery of bodies - people obviously killed by magic, which shouldn't be possible.
In addition, fans of these series get to catch up with their favorite characters, including Davy and Sunny, Detective Stotts and meet Terric's sister, Jolie.
I'm guessing the reason behind the spin-off² is that she'd felt Broken Magic concluded with Stone Cold, yet found there was still some Shame and Terric stories to be told. Back Lash was also her "... first foray into publishing some of my work [herself]".As a fan of all these series and their characters, I'm happy to take whatever she's willing to give me. Spin away!
From Nov Newsletter: "If you enjoy BACK LASH, and it sells well enough, I'll write a second, longer Shame and Terric novel to be published along with BACK LASH in both ebook and print next year." I'm hoping the book does well (go buy it!) so there'll be more to come. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

Although, how Laney managed to stay alive and "free" as long as she did is quite unbelievable. Her "safety" was clearly much less secure, to the reader's eyes, than she believed. Macmillan's ability to bring out her inner strength made me like her more despite her blindness to those she believed closest to her.
Having spent time in Bangkok, I really enjoyed the setting of this book. I continue to enjoy the way Crane develops her characters, revealing bits and pieces to keep us intrigued. I look forward to continuing the series.

It takes place after Hades and tells the story of two unique demons - Slake and Raze. Some favorite characters make appearances - Eidolon, Wraith, Blaspheme, Revenant, and Gem.
Slake is an Acquirer for the law firm Dire & Dyre. He has one final mission he must complete to keep his soul - find a succubus named Fayle. Raze is a Seminus demon who works at Underworld General Hospital and moonlights as a medic for vampire club, Thirst.
Raze, as a Seminus demon, needs sex or he'll die. Problem: "sex" must occur with a female and he's gay. Slake, also gay, wants Raze so badly that he's willing to overlook the bitchy, possessive lady in Raze's life. Problem: "the bitchy, possessive lady" just happens to be his target, Fayle.
Try to avoid spoilers, if you can, because there are some interesting twists that make the relationship between these two fulfilling for both parties.
I'm unable to settle on a rating. The quick he-so-damned-hot to mate-with-me transition leaves me thinking 3.5 stars is appropriate. It's a short story, so things are compressed a bit. Yet, this is a return to one of my favorite series and Ione's first M|M venture, so I kinda want to bump it up to 4-stars. Either way, you know I enjoyed it. :)...more
