The story,Night of Cake and Puppets offers fans of Laini's Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy the chance to experience Zuzana and Mik's first date. The story, while too short - only because you'll want more, is enchanting, delightful, magical, and, at times, laugh out loud funny. These two are perfect match.
When I listened to Karou talk of how Zuzana and Mik's romance began (in Days of Blood & Starlight) I had no idea that I'd get this treat - a first-person telling, told through alternating POVs.
I loved it! If you have the opportunity to do so, I highly recommend the audio version. Narrators Khristine Hvam and Kevin T. Collins do a great job with their inflection - you can feel the characters' excitement and nervousness at finally meeting face-to-face. Their accents, however, did fluctuate at times, but it didn't bother me in the least. ...more

Once there, she meets Vasili. He shares some information about who she is, what's happening and what to prepare for before returning next year. As a result of her fear and naiveté, she binds herself to him.
I'm a big fan of Gena Showalter and her other series. But, this story was a bit short, which made Rose's story and her relationship with Vasili feel forced or rushed. I'm unsure if this is the beginning of a new series or purely a stand alone novella. If it's the start of a series, I'll most likely read on a bit longer to see how things develop in a full length novel....more

Ian has always cracked me up with his hardcore, "your feelings make me sick", I'm-in-control attitude. He's such a sweetheart underneath that hard exterior and this sweet novella is just more proof of that.
"Your ass is mine as soon as those two girls who are renting move out."
Those girls + Charlie = a whole new Ian. I can't wait for the gang to learn exactly what lead him to choose "his twin's" name, Kala (view spoiler)[ Kick A Little Ass (hide spoiler)]. Too funny and SO Ian!
I'm so anxious for more of this series. Lexi has me well and truly hooked on the lives and loves of these characters. I can't wait to read about Erin and Theo's trip to Africa, Mitch and Laurel's story in Adored and Tenn & Faith's story in Master No.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

Being from the south, I loved Jeb's accent, but Nola's Irish/Boston accent was distracting. I love Amanda Ronconi's narrations, but this one was a mess, IMO. I've no doubt she read it as the author intended Nola to sound, but damn that was quite a mix.
I will definitely be continuing on with the series. I enjoy Molly Harper's writing and look forward to returning to visit Jane and gang in Half Moon Hollow....more

Pyro v. hunter, former love interests, sounds great.
Jack is from a family of paranormal hunters who track, capture and turn over paranormals to the government. Cindy is a fire starter. Two years ago, after just three weeks together, they were both happy and in love. Cindy is off to college and Jack's planning to follow her there. He has no interest in following in his family's footsteps - hunting is not for him. Fearing his decision was made too quickly, Cindy takes a chance and tells him of her ability. He's accepting and shares his family's profession with her. Still, they stand by one another and plan to continue their life together. Everything changes when, that same night, Jack's home is set ablaze with his father and two brothers inside - only Jack survives. That was the last time they saw each other. Now, Jack's a hunter. He's tracked Cindy and plans to haul her in.
While I did enjoy their story, the "I remember how good it felt having sex with you" combined with the instant "must have you now no matter what or where" between our main characters, Jack and Cindy, felt off to me. That said, I did like the flashbacks that offered the reader a chance to see how they were prior to the devastating loss Jack suffered. I liked the characters, especially Cindy's best friend Jaime and Jack's best friend and fellow hunter, Ethan, who are primaries in book 2, A Shock To Your System. I like that the story contains paranormals that are not your run of the mill vampires, shifters and witches. So, I will continue on with the series for a bit.
Side note: Third sentence in and Jack's already sportin' wood just from the sight of Cindy. So, I'd say this one veers more on the side of erotic PNR....more
