You see a fun board book based on one of your favorite children's books. You get it hoping that it will be the perfect thing for the baby...and there are too many words. The baby doesn't care about anything but eating the book? And the parent just can't wait to read the baby board book version of the book with their soon to be older toddler. Yeah it happens. But not with this book!
I love the concept of this. It is a book of "opposites" with the hippo as the main character. In fact, the image of the hippo on the cover is the main hippo throughout the whole book. But there is a twist! These aren't just the same old boring opposites. Yes, you have the "small" and "large" concepts...but for those adults who want a chuckle there is also "Opaque" and "transparent". And don't get me started on the cool factor that some of the opposites are things baby can feel such as "soft" and "rough". And then I dare you not to laugh at the "front" and "side" pair.
The pairings are funny (I think the author knew that an adult would be reading this to baby). The concept must have been put together by a graphic designer who is good at conveying concepts. A board book that can amuse me for the days that this one has is pure gold! Really, if you have a baby...go find this book. And you should start at the bookstore. Because let's face it. You are going to want to own it yourself....more
