He seriously is mean doing things like giving “Buffalo a wedgie” or stealing “Hyena’s lunch monkey” or things of that sort. So the animals decide to do something about it. They have Baboon post an ad on the internet to ask someone to come stop Lion from bullying everyone–the reward is “100 Bucks (mostly gazelle).” So a few animals come to put an end to the mean streak. But Bear, Moose, and Tiger all go away after Lion has beaten them. Life looks pretty bleak for all the animals. But then comes Rabbit. Since Rabbit is so small, Lion lets him choose what contest they will have. Rabbit challenges Lion to a marshmallow-eating competition. Which Rabbit wins. Lion complains so they have another competition, a quiz. Rabbit wins again. Then Rabbit beats Lion at a hopping, art, and cross country competition. Lion finally decides he will start being nice. All the animals are excited and set off to the boat to say goodbye to Rabbit. It is then that they see that Rabbit wasn’t just one Rabbit…but multiple bunnies. But the animals never tell Lion how he was tricked, because they like having a nice Lion around.
This was a fun book. I mean seriously, Lion and Rabbit have a marshmallow-eating competition! And the 100 bucks prize is mostly gazelle. This is one of those books that has a fun story that little kiddos will enjoy (because the small Rabbit saves the day and they can see extra Rabbit ears poking out all over the place, so the little bunny totally tricked the big guy); however, the adults who might be forced to read the same story over and over (and over) again will enjoy all the little humorous bits that are thrown in here or there. I can’t wait until I can read this one in story time. I think that my story time kiddos will enjoy seeing a story about how Rabbit beats the Lion and Lion then has to turn into a “nice guy”. Yeah, this is one I will be happy to recommend over and over (and over) again!(less)
