I got about 20 pages in and decided that the book wasn't for me. I ALMOST removed it from my reader. Yesterday, I was feeling lazy, and was out of books on my reader. I decided to give Magic Bites another try.
I am smacking myself in the head right now. This book is wonderful. I adore the concept, the magic times and the tech times, and never the two shall meet! The world building is fantastic. You can see the crumbling ruins of the buildings. Kate is a pain in the ass, and she uses that to her advantage. It helps to keep people off guard and then she slaughters them with her blade!
I loved the interaction between Kate and Curran. Curran is amazingly yummy! He is the Beast Lord - basically lord of the shifters. He and Kate have wonderful interactions and she lives to antagonize him.
So far the series is reminding me (to some degree) of early Laurell K. Hamilton. You have no idea how happy this makes me.
I really enjoyed how the storyline is building. Everything isn't finished at the end of the book, there is more to come in the rest of the series. I rI really enjoyed how the storyline is building. And well, when Percy was turned into the Guinea Pig :D I didn't feel that this book was as good as the first, but that is the whole building of the larger adventure I think. The one thing I wish, is that the children in the story were older. I just don't find it plausible to have these 13 year olds running around doing these adventures.

I've never really enjoyed stories where the hero/heroine start out with a mission to use the other. I dislike the lies and the misleading. I decided to put that aside for this book, and I am very glad that I did.
Treena is a great character. She's strong, she has a great sense of values. She's a great judge of character. Her friends are loyal to her and she to them. I want to be her when I grow up!
Jax.....He's where my button was pushed. I hate lies. I hate deceit. BUT he made it work. The more I read the more I understood his motivations and his sense of ethics. It's hard to type but in all honesty, he is an honorable man, despite the planned seduction.
The side characters made me so happy! I love the refined and elegant librarian, Ellen. She reminds me of someone (I wonder who that could be... *coughmecough*). Carly and her babies (her dogs/pets) were wonderful as well. I love her dopey dog Rufus! I really think that these characters helped make the story what it was. These people showed the type of character Treena's was.
I loved reading about Vegas, even if it was superficial. The Mr. and I got married there, and this brought back some happy memories. I am definitely wanting to go back (it's been over 5 years) and I would definitely hit up a show with some showgirls.
I'm going to be on the lookout for the next book, Just for Kicks, because Carly's story was alluded to. A hunky security guy? Sign me up!
Who do I recommend to? If you love a good contemporary, if you're looking for a really fun beach read, or dreamed of being a dancer!...more

I love Aislinn - she does seem a bit weak, but she is definitely a smart smart girl, and she definitely comes into her own. Seth... Seth..... *drool* He sounds so dreamy! He's smart, he's fun, he loves Aislinn. Keenan and Donia have such a star crossed lovers story.
All together, I absolutely adored this book, and I know I will be rereading this over and over....more
