The only real complaint I have is that I have no idea when the next book, Edge of Darkness, is coming out! Cuz I reallllly wanna read it now :). Anywho... This was a great addition to the series. A real emotional rollercoaster. Fair warning, though, it has parts that are pretty damn dark. Rhiannon (and the reader) has been shielded a good bit from the ways of the majority of vampires and their makers up until this point. It gets pretty rough. But to me that makes for a more realistic experience (as much as you can get in this kind of series anyway :)). Bad guys suck. Really evil people don't just bluff and they don't just slap people around. Shitty, horrible things happen when EVIL people get involved. Saare has created a world where the characters are flawed, not everything works out alright, actions have consequences, evil is horrifying, and nothing is easy. It makes for great writing & a great series, and I can't wait to continue reading & seeing where it goes next. ...more

Even better than the first in series! There's a lot going on in the course of this book, and a lot of different characters involved. As Rhiannon puts it, “Vampires, and werewolves, and demons, oh my.” I feel like almost anything I get into will be all spoilery, so I won't write any details. I'll just say that this installment in the series was FANTASTIC. It was exciting, and heartbreaking, and funny, and frustrating, among other things, and left me desperate to read the next book, The Ripple Effect. Rhiannon has quickly become one of my favorite heroines ever, and I am now a die hard fan of this series.
(view spoiler)[Oh, and needless to say if you've read this book, I am dying to know what's going to happen with Rhiannon, Disco/Gabriel, and Paine... as much as I love Disco, and hate the love triangle thing, Paine absolutely won my heart in this one. I feel for all of them for being stuck in this situation :/. (hide spoiler)]
Some of my fave non-spoilery quotes:
I was consumed by the fears of a girl who continued to exist in the woman who had outgrown her.

Rhiannon’s Law #68: If you’re going to fly by the seat of your pants, rock out with your cock out. The landing is going to hurt either way, and you might as well make an impression when you nail it.

I liked this one well enough. Not a favorite, and I will wait to read the next ones when the last of the trilogy comes out. I did get sucked in pretty quickly, it was an interesting world that miss Williams built, but I found myself kind of losing interest after a while. Not enough to stop reading, obviously! It takes a lot for me to do that (I can't stand not finishing shit). But I did skim a bit and I hate doing that. McKenzie was just not my type of heroine, one of the main reasons I felt *meh* about this, I guess. She was so damn wishy-washy, about EVERYTHING. Anywho, worth a read, but not as redonkulously good as I'd heard. ...more

I loved the world that Carlson created, and the plot was great. I really liked the characters -- I want to steal James for myself *grin*. And Rourke was awesome too; hopefully we'll get to see a lot more of him in the next one... and eventually find out what the heck he is! *mysterious* :) On the whole, Jessica was a great character.. there were a few times when I wanted to pop her upside the head, but that's fairly common *haha*. I liked the way she communicated with her wolf, and the growth of their...er.. relationship(?), I guess you'd call it. There were some issues; I got a little confused at times. There was just A LOT going on. It makes for a good amount of story set up for the rest of the books, but at the time I had to say HUH?? and go back and read again; new shit just got introduced almost constantly towards the end. Hopefully that'll be cleared up by the next book in the series. And there are still some world-building-type questions unanswered, but it is the start of a new series, so that'll prolly get cleared up along the way, too. Looking forward to the next book coming in a couple of months! ...more

I love Dex and Perry back to being partners (even if we all want them to be more than that!). Favorite quote: “Well, they say the way to a woman’s heart is through her vagina.” Oh Dex. Together, they either make me laugh or wanna hit one of them upside the head. They just REALLY need to be able to read eachothers minds so they can be on the same page at the same time!!!! Haha. Not gonna write a long one this time; just want to share that I loved it and I can't wait for #7 from Dex's POV, I've really enjoyed the ones so far from that perspective. And I've loved the character development so far in the series; both of them have changed in some good ways, but Dex especially in this book impressed me. They're both still flawed, of course, but they're growing, which is an important part of a series, I think. Oh and also, the tattoo! Within your light, I lose the madness. "...you’ve always been my light. When I’m with you, I lose this darkness, this madness around me. The madness inside me. But I had to go mad to realize that. I had to lose you to know it.” How could you not forgive a guy after that shit?!? ;)...more

No, for realsies I absolutely loved reading from Dex's pov. I loved getting peeks into the way his mind works, his thoughts on different interactions with Perry, and bits of his history. It makes me want to read this series all over again right now, just cuz I know what he's thinking a bit more :). I mean, quite honestly, I may just read this series again right after I'm done with the next two! I am speeding through and I don't wanna, but I can't help it! Love love love it. It was interesting to see how Dex met Maximus... it makes me wonder about him -- this isn't REALLY a spoiler for this novella, just my thoughts on things but I'll hide them just in case :) (view spoiler)[..The way they met, the questions Max asked, the way he stumbled over his name (Jacob...err Jacobs), even the way he threw Perry under the bus; coupled with Pippa's story about her experiences with her Jakob and how all 'guardians' or whatever are called that... I was so invested I stayed up til 5 frickin am (good thing I didn't have anything to wake up early for this mornin haha); I just COULD NOT stop reading. We are introduced to some new characters here, and I must say that I absolutely loved Rebecca :) she was awesome. We were introduced to Jenn... I rarely use the 'c' word, but it is applicable here. Then there are our two main characters, Perry and Dex. There were SOOO many mistakes by both of these two in this book. I wanted to slap both of them numerous times. But Dex especially. He's either frickin completely clueless through the majority of the book or a cruel bastard -- I mean, he has to at least have an IDEA of how Perry feels about him, yet he keeps alternating between shoving shit with Jenn in her face and being sweet & flirty. Mind-fuck much? GRRR. ANYWAY I don't wanna get into that too much cuz I'll start ranting, haha. This one was definitely more about the character relationships than the ghost-hunting, but the creepiness is definitely still there, in the asylum and some more personal ghosts. We hear from the Creepy Clown Lady -- and I must say I am interested in hearing more from her for sure. One thing I was proud of in this book was Perry's new found confidence in her sanity and ability -- "After what had happened on the island, I knew better than to doubt myself anymore." Good girl. Overall, even as angry with Dex as I am right now, I still LOVED this book. Annnnd now I am on to the next one!! ...more

I really want to buy all of these books in hard copy. On my wish list :). Anywho! This book was UNBELIEVABLE!! I feel like I'm being repetitive, cuz I've pretty much said that about all of them I think, haha (but they are!). They just keep getting better and better. I'm sure if you see all of my little update comments, you'll realize how emotionally invested I've become in this series. There were some SUPER creepy bits in this one... one scene in particular got me (view spoiler)[...(when the monster came out from under the bed and tried to take her under there.. brrr! You tend to hear 'strange noises' when you're creeped out. One of my favorite series ever, fo'sho :). Oh yeah-- and Ada totally rocked the shit in this one. Love that girl now! This place has a dark soul of its own. And it will drown you in its depths.” Fan-frickin-tastic. Best one yet... and creepiest for sure! *Shiver* I'm not even sure how to get into how great this book is without spoiling it. Dex and Perry are great characters, as always, although I do admit I wanted to strangle both of them at points! The ghosts were uber creepy; one scene in particular was really chilling, and when you read this you'll know what I'm talkin about :)(view spoiler)[that baby... brr (hide spoiler)] . There are also some very emotional bits mixed in with the horror. This one had me laughing, gasping in shock, cringing in horror, tearing up, balling my fists in anger... it basically ran me through the emotional gamut. Getting so emotionally invested is how I can tell the goods from the greats (plus the fact that I literally did not stop reading until I finished...haha). Karina Halle is a master of the craft.

Holy schnikees! I loved loved loved this book. This is one of my favorite series ever, and this new addition, in Dex's pov, did not disappoint. As much as I enjoyed Perry's voice in the previous books, I loved that this one let us into the hilarious and crazy mind of Dex. Some questions are answered, whilst others are raised, and the overall plot was fantastic. It's a roller coaster of emotions, y'all, I'll tell ya that! I know I'm being a bit vague, but I'm trying not to be spoilery :) I'm SUPER happy that the next book comes out thus year, even if it'll be a few months. I can't wait!
