In her 30's she is a lover of learning , a lifesaver and teacher of Aqua jogging , a barista at Java Coffee Club and a member of her local Roller Derby team. On a way home one night from Roller Derby, she comes across a guy - Dr. Jared Fine stranded on the road with a flat tire. Their conversation goes from great to Jared being an jerk within a few minutes. However, Jared hasn't meet anyone so invigorating and awesome and wants to know Gretchen more. Gretchen on the other hand doesn't like getting too attached. Can a Derby Girl fall in love with a distinguished Doctor ?
I loved this book and the character Gretchen as she didn't care what people thought exactly of her except for her sisters of course which I can understand. I also loved the fact that she cared for her Gran when no-one else would and that underneath her tough façade of tattoos and roller derby that she is such a sweet and sensitive girl as in the book : note the Wally the Lobster connection. As I have yet to read the first book in this series, I have it on my Ipad to read, I am now looking forward to it and seeing how that one turns out.(less)

This book was a very quick read at only four chapters and is a mixture between the films Shallow Hal but in an opposite way and the movie The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants(less)

Keep You From Harm reminded me a bit of the tale of Doctor Doolittle , where instead of the main character Raielle being able to talk to animals , she can heal those who are sick. All she has in this world is her mother , who can do the same thing. What happens next though is that Raielle will come home from school and find her mother dead , murdered and left in her own pool of blood. From then on , Raielle finds out that she has a family elsewhere that includes her brother and her grandmother . Her brother takes her in to his family and Raielle meets Lucas who is hiding his own fair share of secrets. Soon the pair will become closer and he will become her rock as she tries to find out what happened to her mother. When she meets her grandmother, she discovers the truth of why her mother quit sharing her gift and made sure that Raielle lived by the rules she created. What will happen to Raielle when she has to heal somebody she loves ? Will she discover the consequences of breaking the rules of healing and will it be something that she can live with ? This was such an amazing book, that left me wanting to tell the world about it after I had finished it :) Definitely one for all to read.(less)

This novel reminded me a tad bit of the movie "The Roommate" starring Leighton Meester just without the killings.(less)

This one reminded me of those horror movies like Urban Legends : Bloody Mary or I Know What you did Last Summer. The type of movies that a tragedy happens and someone will die and the remaining of those involved in the incident will try and cover it up, forget it never happened. Though years later, there is still someone who remembers it like yesterday - someone who had an attachment to the victim but was on the outside so the group never really paid attention to them. Then one day the person with the attachments snaps and decides to exact revenge on those involved with the incident those many years ago and of course they die. Not before of course receiving a warning from the killer that they are next - the warning tends to be something that the killer will know that the victims will connect to the incident or the person who died years ago and wham bam - you know the rest. That my friends and readers, is the synopsis of The Violet Hour. An incident happened twenty years ago, a female victim occurred. Now the people involved in her death are being hunted and the clue is a poem that they are all being sent by T.S Elliot. The Violet Hour was a predictable read, but if you are wanting something to read to pass the time like I did as I read this on the aeroplane and you enjoy your mysteries and like myself read all of Richard Montanari's work and enjoyed the majority of it - then The Violet Hour is for you.(less)

When it comes to Christian novels that every teen should read - Melody Carlson is the go-to Author and this book was no different. Grace Unplugged stars Grace Trey , 18yr old daughter of former one hit wonder Johnny Trey now turned Worship leader of their church. All Grace has ever wanted to do is play music and her way, but everytime she gets close -her parents especially her father shuts her down. When an amazing opportunity arises for Grace to get her name out there by remixing her dad's song Misunderstood , she jumps at the chance and is soon chucked headfirst into the world of music - fame and stardom . Is Grace cut out for this life or will she find herself on the outside especially when parts will start to make her question her faith and morals and the way she was brought up. Soon Grace will find in her hands a copy of the book which in the novel -her Pastor Tim wrote it called "Own It" but in reality , the book was written by the amazing Hayley and Michael DiMarco and is a book about owning your faith in all situations. This book was an amazing read and looks at the contrasts between the christian world and the hollywood world where exploiting yourself for the name of money and selling records is A-OK. After reading the book , I now can't wait to see the movie and what's even more awesome is the fact that if you are a music person -then like me, you can hop onto Itunes and download the Movie's soundtrack . This is one book that should be on all teen's reading list and would make a good study group book as teens start to cross into the adult line and choices arise and many second guess what they have been brought up to believe.(less)

Losing Agir starts off in Turkey where we watch Agir's village end up being raided by soldiers who are killing people and burning villages. The story then jumps to the UK where we meet Alice , a fifteen year old foster kid who has been dumped from home to home. She is finally put into the home of Tom and Glenda where she meets Agir. However, there are lots of rules in place and when one night Alice finds herself breaking them , she encounters something terrible regarding Tom and soon Agir. With her street knowledge and courage , Alice will seek to do whatever she needs to in order to bring Tom down and save Agir before it's too late. Can Alice save Agir or by doing what she believes is right , will she lose him and see him taken back to a world he has tried to escape from ? Losing Agir is not the type of book I would normally read , but I found it quite fast-paced and targeted the edgy topic of War and Human Trafficking quite well.(less)

Would you aim for unrealistic goals or goals that you could actually achieve ? What would you do if you only had one day to live ? That was the assignment that three girls were given one day during Detention. One girl Macey choose one thing that would present itself right through the book in the form of pies , Rebel Blue aka Rebecca Blue would write a list of outrageous things , that reading them I was like OMG that would actually be fun and the last was Kennedy Green. That particular detention, Macey skipped out and left Rebel and Kennedy alone together where they well mainly Kennedy talked about fate, destiny and death etc. After leaving the room , only one of them would make it through to the next day as the other would find themselves dead. After the incident, Rebel finds herself with the bucket list that Kennedy made and sets out as her own personal goal to complete all the items on Kennedy's list. Doing this Rebel will discover things about herself that she never realized and soon will help put Rebel into a world she couldn't imagine herself ever being in. Is the list a sign from the grave of Kennedy telling Rebel that underneath her facade she is actually a good person waiting to shine ? This was such an awesome and heartfelt book that I couldn't put down and loved it to bits and think that if you love Edgy Content Fiction , then this is the book to read. (less)

For me, I read a lot of books and lately the majority of them are New Adult novels . Some are good , others get me bored but every now and again I will find one that is AMAZING. One of the amazing ones that I found today was Book #1 in Sawyer Bennett's series "Off'. Not sure what to expect, I started reading it and what I found was a truly amazing love story. In Off Sides we meet two very different people in society's terms but behind closed doors they couldn't be closer to the same. The main female is Danny , a waitress who at first we see as a rebel but then as the novel goes along we see a deeper side of her which I liked as in the majority of NA novels they don't often go to the depths of the character rather than just the storyline. The main male role goes to Ryan - a hockey captain and the son of the Congressman. The other thing I loved about this book is that Danny's friend is called Paula which is my name and she sounds like a rockin' character. Somehow the pair of them connect and soon it seems that they were made for each other and it was one of those heartbreaking novels where despite obstacles chucked in their way, neither will see the other hurt and in both sides do whatever they need to protect the one they love. If you haven't yet read this series, what are you waiting for. Head now and purchase your copy of Off Sides and now I am looking forward to reading the remainder of the series(less)

However , where Ivy is all about the romance -Bennett is anti-romance and doesn't believe in the true love fairytale that Ivy has made sure she has created all her life for every wedding she has planned. As the story goes along , we see the main characters have that awkward -I hate you but secretly I love you beginning and then as the novel gets to about the middle - they start to fall head over heels with each other but then when things start to get too serious Bennett gets nervous . Can Ivy prove to Bennett that there really is such a thing as true love or will his jaded view stand in the way of his and Ivy's happiness for the future ?
