Jase has been in love with Matt, his best friend, for a long time, but when Matt tells Jase he is straight, Jase decides to go off to the military to put distance between them. After a decade and a severe injury that ends Jase’s career as an MP, Jase heads home to Matt’s wedding. It’s here that Jase meets Chris, Matt’s half brother that they never knew about until not so long ago. Chris has kept his parentage mysterious but he definitely looks like Matt. Chris has severe ADHD and insomnia and a lot of personal issues he has trouble dealing with.
Jase is the complete opposite of Chris with his order and control but they two are drawn to each other and their chemistry is very intense. There is a lot of drama in that Chris is determined to keep his secrets his own and Jase is determined to make him open up. It turns out that Chris has a lot of abuse in his past. And the reader is treated to a plot twist and we finally do find out Chris’ story.
This was a lot of intensity and a lot of drama. I did find it was a little bit too much for real life. The plot twist was a bit of a stretch? It was a good story, nonetheless. It was just a bit of a wild ride. If you want angsty drama with damaged characters and intense relationships will most likely enjoy it. ...more

I would give this book ten stars if I could. It’s going on my all-time favorites shelf. It was absolutely amazing. This book will make you warm and fuzzy all the way through. There is so much emotion. You do have to keep in mind that it is set in 1991, because things are not like they are now. People aren’t as accepting of gays as they are now. And they are also in an area of the US that is more conservative. I also like that the author chose this time, when they didn’t have cell phones and internet, or even cordless phones. It wasn’t as easy to communicate with people back then, and that added a lot to the flavor of the story.
Peter and Adam are high school seniors at a private school. Peter is there because he was bullied for being gay at the public school. He wasn’t out, but it was assumed he was. Adam and his sister move to town to live with their older brother and they are a bit exotic. While Peter is introverted and lives behind his beloved camera lens, Adam is gorgeous and he and his sister draw a crowd. It’s why Peter can’t understand why Adam is drawn to him, but Adam wants Peter, and Peter definitely wants Adam. They become fast friends but hide away their growing attraction for each other that leads to fooling around. It’s Peter’s first everything with a boy, but Adam is bi and experienced with both sexes. Peter is soon drawn into the in-crowd thanks to Adam and is sister. But Adam isn’t out and refuses to ever be out despite Peter wanting them to be so. Adam dates Leslie to combat the gossip.
So starts the real angst of the book. Do you compromise yourself and your integrity for love? What about the innocent people who will get hurt in the process? Do you set aside what you feel and believe for another?
Thank goodness Adam doesn’t appear to be the only option for Peter. And no, I’m not a fan of Adam at all. Yes, he does have his own issues he has to deal with, but I think Adam is a crappy person, and if I could reach into the book, I’d choke him. Daniel is an older college student who Peter meets while at his friend/employer’s house. It seems we may see more of Daniel in the future and I certainly hope so. I absolutely can’t wait until the second part comes out. Leta Blake’s serials are always an absolute treat to read. I can’t recommend this one highly enough. ...more

Hunter and Shawn are coworkers in a busy ER. Hunter has been crushing on Shawn for a while now. There is a hostage situation in the ER that is pretty intense but Hunter and Shawn make it through. They end up in a supply closet together caught up on the high of surviving. Shawn makes it clear that it’s not going to happen again, but shows up later for more. It turns out he has reasons for wanting to hold Hunter at arms-length. Shawn has a past and because of this, he’s dark and mysterious. Hunter has baggage of his own that he has to deal with.
The story is very fast paced with lots of action and plot twists. The sex is hot. The characters are likable. This was a lot like watching an action movie. At times I felt like it was a bit busy. But it was consistent and overall it was a good story. ...more
