I’ve never read a Maisey Yates book but when I saw she had a Cosmo Red Hot Reads out I thought this might be a good time to give her a try. And then I saw that title, and I knew this was gonna happen. How can it not?
Evie is a self-confessed, awkward geeky type who is brilliant at what she does. She does code and that has made her a lot of money. She’s a millionaire and hasn’t even hit thirty yet. She’s beta testing her latest app she’s created for Flirt magazine designed to be a hookup app. She’s only had one relationship which was flat and emotionally un-fulfilling. She’s socially awkward but ready to strike out for some no strings attached fun so she’s the perfect beta tester for her own app. So she goes to a bar and puts her app to the test and strikes out several times until she catches Caleb’s attention.
Caleb is a rich, bored womanizer. He works when he feels like it but mostly he hooks up with women in bars and not much else. Although he’s not all that attractive at first, he’s extremely charismatic and physically good-looking. Evie is attracted to him so she decides to go home with him for a one night stand. Their chemistry is explosive and they share a hot, passionate night together. But they agreed, one night so Evie was ready to move on in the morning. But Caleb decides he wants more and he’s not used to getting turned down.
I hope the brainy, self-assured yet slightly awkward heroine is becoming a thing. I really like this kind of heroine and I want to read more. Evie is awkward but owns it much like the heroine in M.K. Schiller’s, The Do Over. She’s confident, successful, yet awkward.
Caleb is one of those guys you kind of hate yourself for liking at first. Sort of arrogant, entitled, but so charismatic you find yourself liking him anyway. And then you realize he’s not so bad even if he insists he is. The story takes a sad twist where Caleb is concerned but it’s part of his emotional healing and Evie is there to help him through it.
Now this is a Cosmo Red Hot Reads and the title is Crazy, Stupid Sex so you know what that means. Sexy times. Yes, plenty of the hot and sexy for Evie and Caleb. Their romance builds steadily as their relationship progresses in and out of the bedroom and then there is love. Sweet love. And I love it.
As I said, this is my first Maisey Yates book. In her note to readers in the book she says she loves a geeky heroine. So do I and I want more so I will be checking her back-list and looking for more smart, confident, unintentionally sexy heroines who can bring those arrogant lover boys to their knees.
“Luckily, you are quite sexy.”
“Even with the awkward?”
“I don’t know. I’ve been staring at your breasts this whole time. I can tell you without a doubt that they’re charming.”
Her heart jumped, a little shiver of pleasure skating over her skin. “How do you do that?”
“What?” “Say the most douchey things and make them sound hot?”
“It’s a gift. I wasn’t good in school. I’ve been fired from almost every job I’ve ever had. But I can pick up a woman in a bar without even trying. In fact, I can actively attempt to push a woman away and still wind up in bed with her.”
“That’s douchey, too, and it’s still making me feel fluttery. Which was probably also detrimentally honest of me.”
