I TOTALLY wanted a book where Percy kicks everyone's butts LOOOOL love it when that happens heh but then I realized the other two new demigods would have basically no action. and everyone else would think the book sucked prob LOL SO OF COURSE *SPOILER (?) ALERT* (not really this happens very very early in the book) the river styx thing gets removed. NOOOOOOOOO I wanted some AMAZEMENT and serious ADMIRATION going on for that ughhhhhh but I guess he'd be way overpowered with it or something QQ
general *SPOILER ALERTS* from here to the end of the review
So we meet Hazel, who has the power of jewelry hehhhehhe okay riches. To compare... I think I like her power a bit worse than Piper's, just because what if there's not enough jewelry :x I've only seen her do major stuff in the Amazon store, where there's literally jewelry everywhere... so I'm not that impressed. BUT her horse is extremely cool so maybe riches+horse > persuasion for me HMM
Frank gets the COOL SHAPESHIFTING. THAT is pretty awesome but I'm not really sure how that works... since only celestial bronze/imperial gold works against monsters, and he somehow hurts them with his eagle talons or something yeahhhhh but I guess he can still knock them around as an elephant. I don't know I just thought almost all monsters were like so much stronger than elephants for some reason LOL I guess not.. he seemed extremely effective in the last portion of the book so GREAT! AND he seems VITAL to the whole group of seven O_O Personally I still like power over water/air better... but to compare him to leo HMM leo's magic tool belt/building stuff/fire is extremely useful too. But I guess leo is more support while Frank would be the main course o_O Their histories are both pretty interesting too, what with her dead/raising up giant thing, and frank's stick/power thing. And for some reason I found their personalities so similar. They didn't stand out to me as much as leo/piper did. Or at least Leo. But then again who stands out compared to the jokester leo LOL
Overall I like how we have demigods from EVERYWHERE.. aphrodite (who I thought was portrayed to be so useless in the pj series LOL), hephaestus, poseidon O u O, athena (most likely right...), zeus, ares, hades :D
This book took on a more serious tone for me, and I was a bit thrown off by Percy, who seemed so FOREIGN to me that I couldn't get used to it. The loss of memory thing was so ARGADFJLK and I WISH he took a more central role in the earlier/middle parts of the story... I only got "Percy shaked his head from across the campfire" or "Percy looked at them in shock" NOPE I liked it better when I KNEW what he was thinking then -_- BUT THEN AGAIN I wouldn't be able to know what Hazel/Frank are thinking, which would make them hard to get close to. OMG CAN'T DECIDE WHAT I WOULD LIKE MORE LOL Plotwise, very similar to lost hero-- complete quest, save camp woohoo but you know what same formula does not mean boring. same formula but completely different setting/characters/adventures is GOOD. Like the amazon ladies- they were good. ELLA is completely unexpected for me, but I suppose she'll act like a personal oracle from now on.
ohhh I just realized something... TYSON is the first to meet the rest of them because he's not really civilized in that weird polite/complicated relationship way. If ANY of the other mainish characters met percy first, it'd be so AWK and like WHERE'VE YOU BEEN and WHAT'S GOING ON and how do I act around this guy after not seeing him for so long things and it'd be so much more dramatic and stuff.. but since it's tyson it's just "BROTHER" *HUG* and everything's good. NICE ONE -_- now it's just as much of a cliffhanger as ever goddddd
BUT DUDE SAMMY LEO THING WOOWWWWWWWWWWWW I ALMOST CHOKED ON MY SPIT WHEN I READ THAT LOOOL I bet there's some reference to this in the last book and I, who haven't read it in a year I think, probably forgot about it and am the only person freaking out about this piece of info but GEEZ I DID NOT EXPECT THAT!!! And who's gonna be like the LEADER of the group? PERCY (please please) ? JASON? ANNABETH?
overall, a good read but I WISH my bias for percy wasn't so strong LOL -_- or that he got more of the action heh(less)

Lots of cool fighting/action scenes, which was nice, but lots of loose ends Paolini never got around to, which was disappointing. Also, the book was pretty darn predictable :P
And the ending made me sad :(
THINGS I WISHED PAOLINI ADDRESSED: (possible spoiler!) Who is Angela? She's definitely a really old, powerful being, but he never told us who she is! Who are the Grey Folk? What was the point of the 2 warriors coming from the faraway land... all they did was save Roran once -_- Also, I thought the green dragon and Elva would play a larger role in the whole "Defeat Galbatorix" thing (less)

Sure, exciting things happened but everything seemed so toned down I just wasn't WOWed :( Raisa was okay I suppose. She annoyed me at times with her immaturity and stubbornness (I feel like so many authors think headstrong immature girls are the ideal female fantasy characters -_- NO). Can we please have some maturity and flexibility in characters? SIGH Han was pretty awesome though :D He was honestly just a chill guy who's been through a lot, but doesn't really hate anyone for it. I love how much he cares for his family and friends, and I love the way Chima makes him seem so easy to understand and loveable :) The Bayar family was interesting. High Wizard=intense, scary guy and Micah=a bit confusing for me honestly. In the beginning of the book he's portrayed as some sort of arrogant idiot from Han's point of view, and then suddenly from Raisa's point of view he's this amazing, dark, tall and handsome/charming guy that all girls love. Definitely weird XD Oh, and I absolutely hated the queen. GOD. I hope she realizes how idiotic she's been.
So overall, 3.5/5. I guess I'll continue on with the rest of the series since I started it anyway -_-(less)
well it's currently 5am so I guess I can definitely say that this book hooked me. Before talking about anything else, I woul...more4.5 stars... I round up :)
well it's currently 5am so I guess I can definitely say that this book hooked me. Before talking about anything else, I would just like to say that the romance factor in this novel was quite well-done to me- I loved the dialogue between the two and the fact that Saba was tough enough to actually call Jack a "bastard." For some reason that part just really stuck with me :P Grr I'm angry about the end though. But I won't say why or else I might spoil it. Grr.
The action was interesting, although I wish there were more details about her gladiator-style fights besides just discussion about her "red hot" rush. Although I suppose it isn't necessary, a little more detail wouldn't hurt ^^
Oh and by the end of the book, I loved almost all of the good characters- even Emma, who I absolutely hated in the beginning of the novel. The development of the relationship between Emma and Saba was also amazing. Ah and the development of the relationship between Saba and Jack was awesome too :D
But the part where Lugh came in near the end was a bit..anticlimactic? I'm not sure why.. but Lugh just seemed different and un-Lugh-like, and there wasn't much going on between Lugh and Saba and overall I wish there was more of an impact when Lugh came in.
I'd say... this book reminded me of Divergent a lot- I'm not sure why exactly since technically neither setting nor plot are that similar haha I wonder...(less)
