No sé si en este caso, el ver previamente la película hace que el personaje de Holly no pueda desprenderse de Audrey. Sin embargo, creo que el trabajo de Capote es magnífico y sólo pudo ser mejorado por Ms. Hepburn. Me gusta que la no existencia de Fred como amante hace que sea un retrato de una "playgirl", sin mayores necesidades narrativas, y no una historia de amor realizado. Es conocido que Capote tomó a sus "encantos" neoyorquinos para realizarlo. Así como todos deberían ver la adaptación al cine, deberían leer esta breve pieza de Truman. It's delightful.(less)

No falla en cumplir su propósito de recorrer that Midtown Manhattan y the West Coast donde se gestó la novela, la adaptación, el clásico del cine y el nuevo mito de la mujer contemporánea. Tal vez nadie "saw it coming" hace 50 años, pero Sam Wasson ya lo sabía, nosotros ya lo sabemos, y así él logró su objetivo de mostrar cómo se gestó, a veces sin mucho glamour, esta gran obra y la cúspide de Ms. Hepburn. Su lenguaje es atrapante, hipnótico, un inglés enriquecido con el sabor del español latino y dominicano. Esta literatura latina en inglés es un fenómeno que está consolidando la evolución de esta lengua, del español y del "spanglish" en una hibridación que no me deja de parecer muy interesante. Así que durante todo el libro disfruté de las frases divertidas, sin grandilocuencias, sacadas de la jerga y el slang neoyorriqueño y newyornicano y no de las Academias del "buen habla". Más allá de lo que se pueda discutir sobre la "pureza" de una lengua, es su virtud de entidad viva y en constante transformación la que da cuenta de los encuentros culturales y de cómo fuerzas raciales, en este caso los latinos, hacen parte esencial de los Estados Unidos de nuestros días y que escritores como Díaz y Engel representan el espacio literario del migrante latinoamericano.
