The problem i had is i think it's just too long and to be stuck with Henry, although yes he is dealing with a lot, the book is really repetitive and it just comes across as being whiny.
Some of the ways mental health is discussed in this book are good and then other times it totally misses the mark completely and just comes across as cliche and lazy especially the character of the mom and the jocks and it just turns into a melodrama like it's one thing after the next. I didn't really like any of the characters either, the whole thing with the aliens was totally pointless and just seemed added in for hipster value if someone wants to give me some bullshit mental health analogy of the aliens, please don't. I know a lot of people liked this book so maybe it's just me being too cynical and i can't be doing with anymore whiny teenagers, no more YA for me for a while - note to self. Overall i'd say leave it but everyone else loves it so take your chances....more

It's not the greatest read ever, nor a read that will inspire you to start reading more Batman but it's a good read it's typical Morrison writing. You either go with it or remain confused til the end, it's definitely not one you can read only having read a few Batman titles. There's a whole story going on where you need to know the back story. The artwork is amazing it definitely stands out more so than the story. Joker was done really well, Alfred was on point, which is always a plus something the rebirth batman titles fucked up incredibly (totally give up with those). Overall worth picking up but i wouldn't say it's a must have. ...more

This is basically a reference book of all the characters (not really all of them though.) Because this is a pretty huge series i guess this could be useful to some who need a refresher course of who all the characters are, there's so many relations in the shadowhunters series that it can get super confusing as to who is related to who, and what book they're in. You don't really learn anything new there's like two sentences about each character, Alec's and Jace's were super cute as well as the Lightwood-Bane kids (who ahhhhhhh are you kidding?? how cuteeeee). Oh which yeah there is spoilers if you haven't read the full series so i kinda spoiled that. But yeah, you can't rate this because it's just a reference book with some nice drawings....more

It's such a short story but it definitely packs as much into it as possible, i could have done with this being a little bit longer. You're not really given time to care about the characters or what happens to them really. There's a few shocking moments in this and they may have hit harder if it was bit longer. Saying that if you're after a quick shock read then this is definitely worth picking up. It's not my fave Brubaker/Phillips title but if you're in a graphic novel slump as i am, i think this one will drag you out of it. ...more

The only exception to this being Europa which i really liked so i thought i'd give his writing another go maybe it had grown on me. But nah son, and i wanted to like this i know a lot of you that have read it really loved it and its get recommended to me all the time but it was boring and then it ends on a cliffhanger and i was done. Really liked the artwork though, it's not a terrible read it's just lacking something and i wasn't that impressed over all....more

Only a liHow come Simon gets this nearly 700 hundred page book full of cohesive stories and Magnus got like barely 200 hundred pages of naff stories??
Only a little bitter about it....but whatever fine let's learn about Simon's years training to be a shadow hunter. Now if you love Simon you'll really love this, but i think his character is best in small bursts, and i dunno i think i preferred him as a vamp the whole him becoming a shadowhunter was very, very glossed over. Some of the stories are better than others, pretty much all the characters from the series appear in this. I would say read this before reading Lady Midnight because it fills in the gap of where TMI series ends and that begins. If you pick this up for nothing other than the Malec story in this then it's worth it. ...more

Some of these are like reading bad fan fiction and they're just meh and it's gotta be hard to take such an amazing character and give him such a boring backstory. Maybe that was why Mags never told Alec much about his past because honestly meh. Another problem is obviously we can't get too far into Magnus' past because then it would probably give away future plot points or whatever so these just reads as little pointless. Saying that they're are some cute moments with Magnus, Ragnor and Catarina they're such a cute bunch. Magnus meeting Will again and his kids was pretty interesting and obviously that was setting up another series of books. The best stories in this though and lets be real, were the ones with Alec!
My fave of the collection had to be the one with Magnus trying to think of a birthday present for Alec and it was just quite funny with Magnus arguing with this demon about mix tapes. Their first date is a sweet mess and the answering machine was just a little depressing especially with how lovey dovey Malec are at the moment (let's keep it that way book and show looking at you both)....more

I think the plot is more focused, the whole group dynamic worked better, it was quite funny and i felt more invested in this plot than the previous two. My only issue was Emma & Julian's set up like i get it she's gotta promote the next series but it slowed the book down at times and i just feel that it could have waited for Lady Midnight series i didn't need an introduction to them yet. It's a pretty good ending if not a little stretched out which seems to be an issue with this series and TID. If you got suckered into watching the show then you'll like the books and it's quite a quick read to get through, considering there's so many of them. Overall it's a pretty decent series, it's worth the struggle getting through book four and five, plus you gotta do it for Magnus man! ...more

I really liked this one it was a good wrap up of the story everything came together quite well. It definitely has its moments, i especially liked all the Henry & Magnus scenes they were quite sweet. I'm not 100% on that ending though it was a little too Disney for me, very mushy and it really drags towards the end. I will say one issue i had was the automatons who are supposed to be these scary clockwork type robots but for the entire three books all i thought of was Tik-Tok. Even when they show up attacking people and blowing up shit, i just had an image of a bunch of Tik-Toks bumbling around.
This series is well worth picking if you're after a YA fantasy series set in 19th century London, similar to six of crows and a love of demon pox, it's totally down your street....more

Also Alec, my guy, my buddy, what the hell man??
That entire plot with Camille was just garbage, and then you're always missing half of a story with Magnus & Alec so i couldn't understand where Alec was coming from you've dated him for six months, you've had about three bloody scenes together in five books, like chill son.
Saying that, there were quite a few cute Malec scenes in this book, it was nice to see them getting a look in for once, the whole plot with 'team good' was the only good thing about this book. It was better than book four, but it was more or less the same thing and i'm pretty much just in this for Magnus now....more
