I enjoyed the build-up of the relationship, but was a bit disappointed that the second half seemed to ignore that in favor of the hot smexiness (which was hot, and at times sweet - but it felt like it was expense of furthering the emotional connection at times). I also thought the story felt unfinished as decisions regarding the future of both men's careers was up in the air. It was an enjoyable read, just not as enjoyable as it could have been for me.
As an aside, I know a couple of reviews complained about the fact that the guys remained closeted, but I didn't have an issue with that as it would be unrealistic for them to expect the local small southern community to accept to gay males to be coaching boys - call it a stereotype, but I think it remains a fact of reality....more

Brian and Jamie are both innocent, sweet and charming characters feeling their way through their confusing emotions and first times.
Having personal experience with small town Alabama life, I really felt for these two young men and the steps they had to take to safeguard their love and protect themselves from those too ignorant and intolerant to understand. There are complex and emotional relationships between the boys and their parents/guardians and some of their classmates that add additional layers of depth to the story.
The only thing I took issue with was the level of sexual content in the book. Before reading it, I had shelved it as a YA title, but I've since removed it. I don't question that boys of their age would have the sexual experiences detailed in the book, I am just not convinced the level of detail was necessary in a book that I think could really speak to teens otherwise.
Brian and Jamie are beautifully developed characters and I look forward to seeing where life takes them (although from the snippet at the end of the book, it's not going to be a smooth ride)....more

Having only bought it yesterday, I started it last night and only managed three hours of sleep, having difficulty putting the book down once I started it. Jesse and Evan's story was so sweet. I loved watching their story unfold and seeing how they got lost in each other (isn't that the best thing about a new relationship?). I enjoyed learning about their different back stories and seeing how they formed the men they became and how their differing personalities complimented each other. And I loved the playful banter and their scorching intimacy.
The music industry setting was an entertaining one. The politics and the media focus that came into play made for a compelling read. Additionally, it brought us a great cast of supporting characters - Brandon and Kenny being the stand-outs for me.
I look forward to the next two installments in this series and discovering where Conquest and Evan's careers take them next.
