“Mama B - A Time to Speak” was a FREE kindle read that introduced readers to Mrs. Beatrice ‘Mama B’ Jackson, a widow with four children who loves the lord. Along with being healthy, dressing fly, and being a loyal follower of God’s, Mama B is always willing to help others. Her granddaughter Nikki and great-grandson Cameron come to stay with her. She’s hoping to help Nikki get back on her feet, while at the same time establishing a relationship between Nikki and God as well as Nikki and her dad.
While trying to help with her own family matters, Mama B finds her doors open to the members of the church and trying to watch what she says as she is not in agreement with the visiting pastor and his wife’s message. Can Mama B find the right way to address them without causing a rift in her own family?
“Mama B - A Time to Dance” is the second in the Mama B series. In this edition, Mama B has gotten her house back and is enjoying it until her nephew, Derrick Jackson, shows up with his bags. Mama B has made it clear to him that she does not house marital fugitives. Unbeknownst to her, Derrick’s issue is more serious and definitely keeps her in prayer for him, his wife, and their child.
Dr. Frank Wilson, who readers met in A TIME TO SPEAK, has asked Mama B on a date. At seventy-two and stuck in her ways, Mama B is certain that she is beyond her dating years. But when Libby Maxwell, her walking partner and friend, dares her to call him, Mama B accepts the challenge. Will she regret it?
“Mama B - A Time to Love” is the final book in the series. Mama B is alone again in her home and back to doing charity work. While enjoying being a help to those in need, the new rules seem to hurt those who really are in need of assistance. Eunice Henderson is one of those affected by these rules. When she and the director have a little more than words, it’s Mama B to the rescue.
Things between Mama B and Dr. Frank are definitely moving into the serious side of things. She’s invited him to her church and it seems things are going smooth until First Lady Cynthia Dukes warns Mama B to be careful with him.
Can Mama B figure out and fix things in Eunice’s life while at the same time trying to mesh well with Frank?
Michelle Stimpson has stumbled on gold! Mama B is a refreshing character who will remind readers of their own grandmothers. It is amazing how in each of the stories, no matter what the problem is and how challenging it may seem, everything is resolved with God’s promise to His people.
My only issue is that there are quite a few typos, but, even with those, this book is uplifting and I’d easily recommend to ALL! ...more

Joyce Mitchell is a devoted social worker, an optimist and a widow. Since the loss of her husband, she founded the Sewing Circus - a place for young women where they can receive assistance, job counseling, GED classes, daycare, and development into becoming ‘free’ women. Joyce and the Sewing Circus have been in business for two years and now they have to find a way to keep the program funded.
Nate Anderson is new to Idlewood. He’s the Assistant Principal at the high school. Friends of Joyce’s have been unsuccessful at setting her up. This time it appears that Nate, a former cop, who is looking for a way to connect to the young males before the cuffs, just may be the one.
With so many issues arising between the young ladies and males in the community, it seems to keep Joyce and Nate on opposing sides. Will they ever find a common ground?
In this second installment, readers are introduced to individual members of the Sewing Circus as well as other residents of Idlewild. I absolutely LOVE the way the author utilizes certain black male stars as positive males and how through black movies they are able to analyze life and see things in a different way and apply it to their own lives. Both the title and cover play an important part into the journey of the lives of those in the story.

Yoville is a small, legal township founded by the rich for their own personal use. When slavery ended, some of the rich who lived in Yoville moved farther east while most returned seasonally, making Yoville a dying town.
Josephus Josephus, a former slave, had nowhere else to go so he stayed on with the Krupt family. Josephus fathered two daughters with two different women. His daughter Ruth was being raised by her mother Bessel and another man. Yinyang was born to the mistress of the plantation he lived on.
Josephus’ desire is to have opportunities like others. Willing to do what he can to insure that he will live well will not just affect him, but future generations to come.
IN SEARCH OF SATISFACTION by J. California Cooper is a substantial story about lineage, money, love, hate, support, and family. This is my second book by Cooper, and just like with FAMILY, I’m impressed with the way she weaves lively characters, storylines and plots. This is definitely recommended reading!...more

Poor little Ailana. Her parents died when she was young and she lived with a great aunt that harbored a ton of ill towards her. Without any friends Ailana simply existed. It wasn’t until Aunt Helene passed away that Ailana’s life began.
Ethan Scott, a businessman, introduced Ailana to love. Married, they share a very adventurous marriage. While Ailana and Ethan are clear on what they want in their marriage, things seem to heat up when Professor Austin Clark enters the picture.
I picked OPEN because I thought the book cover was HOT! I’ve read a few of Lamar’s titles and while this one is too short for my liking, it does its job of entertaining the reader. It took a minute for me to fully understand the particulars, as it’s not really spelled out. In some respects, I feel like the hinting versus the saying may have been the missing oomph. Even still, a quick and good read....more

Carlos Manoso aka Ranger, Stephanie’s mentor, missed a court appearance and now he’s the number one suspect in the murder of Homer Ramos. The people looking for Ranger all decide that Stephanie is their best way to find him.
Despite the manhunt out on Ranger, Stephanie is trying to bring in easier skips to help put some money in her pockets. While Mooner, the local weed head, is easy to handle, Morris Munson is in a league of his own.
Stephanie is losing sleep as her apartment has become a safe haven for runaway grandmothers, advice central for burnouts, a dog rescue, and a fugitive hangout. Can Stephanie get things back in order before she’s the next victim because of lack of sleep?
HOT SIX is just okay. Of course I laughed at Stephanie’s antics. I’ve come to enjoy the Plumb family and their life in the Burgs. However, for me, it seems that something was missing in this story. ...more

Sunday and Sam are no longer an item. But it seems that no matter where Sunday goes, Sam is there. At the studio, the House of Blues, the Grammy’s, and the photo shoot. Despite what Sunday’s heart may be telling her, her mind is telling her to get over Sam. He hurt her. Gia and Ricky aren’t as harmonious either. And while it’s obvious that they love one another, they both want to maintain their friendship, even if they’re miserable. Newcomers Piper and Meagan are totally different, yet they find that they have a lot in common which causes a rift in the friendships.
As usual, Sunday is caught up in the beef between Mystique, her mentor, and Drama, her cousin. While she is certain that Mystique is a high-caliber chick, her label mates at Reign Records keep telling her to watch her back.
Between school, music and boys, Sunday is on overload. Can she find a way to balance her hectic life while living out both of her dreams?

IA is also on his case and his father’s words are vibrating in his ear. While investigating, he’s doubtful that Ebony Warner, a murder victim, is even worth his time. But it seems that someone, somewhere went through a lot of trouble to shut her up. Is there more to this case?
THE PROMISE: A ROMAN STEFAN NOVEL is an okay read. I like that the main character is sketchy and marches to the beat of his own drum. Gaston provides readers with enough background that you understand the character and his characteristics. The story has a good flow. Some parts of the story are a little farfetched, but as the plot thickens, readers become more and more invested in the who, what, why, where and how of the story. While I really liked the story, there are issues in editing with tense, missing and wrong words that definitely need to be addressed.

DANGEROUS DECISION by Nine Livez, while short, was heavy on details. You got the who, what, why, where and how of things, but you really wanted a second helping.
It was a really quick read. I hope that Nine Livez will consider this when he begins his next book. Give the readers more than a teaser. ...more
