HELL RAZOR HONEYS 2 jumps jive back into where readers last left off. Vida finds herself caught at a crossroads. No Draws is fighting for her freedom, and Tia is ready to ride hard. With the old HONEYS out the way, the new era HONEYS, Paris, Tera and LaLa, are keeping it all the way gangster. When challenged, they don’t cower, but when the game changes they are forced to adapt to the new rules. Will this new era be able to fill the shoes of their founding sisters?
While it was a quick and enjoyable read, I still find myself asking, was it necessary? It did answer some questions, but I also felt like it still left the door open to others. HELL RAZOR HONEYS 2 is drenched in blood, sex and friendship. Would probably work better as a set so readers, who are already on a power ride, can continue until the end.
There were issues with editing, otherwise a continuous flow. Eyone, I’m ready to see what’s next!...more

PRICE OF FAME by Amaleka McCall deals with pain, struggle, murder, secrets, drugs, dirty cops, domestic violence, racism, human trafficking and love. I enjoyed how the story takes you through each person's past and brings you current. I also enjoyed seeing Myra Hudson. Readers of Amaleka's work will remember her from her first novel, A TWISTED TALE OF KARMA.
Despite the editing issues, I enjoyed the story. It pains me that so many young girls and women are sexually exploited and then tossed away like trash. Amaleka, continue to use your pen to bring light to this darkness. ...more

It’s been four years since we’ve last checked in with the Burns family. Since older brother Reuben has moved back home to Jubilant, Texas. Indigo is engaged to Max. Baby sister Yasmin is sulking after having to give up her modeling career.
Irene and Charles are so caught up in ‘Reubenmania’ that they don’t realize how they’ve ostracized their other children and responsibilities. Instead of always being able to come home, the move is more difficult as both sisters are harboring resentment.
When Yasmin flees Jubilant, Texas, in order to live out her dream the Burns family crumbles as the parents seem to go into seclusion, keeping secrets and shying away. This is part of the reason why Reuben ran off in the first place. Can this family finally find a way to get real with one another in order to heal their foundation?
‘Dreams That Won’t Let Go,’ the third novel in the Jubilant Soul series, is a real eye opener. I loved how the story grates on the difficult tasks of dealing with reality, holding on to secrets and being able to relate to one another as well as getting personal with God. Stacy Hawkins Adams’ ministry is in her writing. I thank God for her words and effortlessly recommend this series to others. I am hoping that this is not the last that we’ve seen from this family. ...more

Breaking news - women are being raped, beaten and murdered in their homes. Authorities aren’t sure how the women are chosen and learn that while the bulk of the women were in D.C., some were also found in California. Is this the work of the same person or is there a copycat on the prowl as well?
With so many similarities, Agent Perry knows that all of the recent murders are connected, but she is uncertain as to how. When she finds herself on the right path, danger comes calling again. Can she connect all of the puzzle pieces before it’s too late?
‘Sugar & Spice’ is anything but nice as rape, beatings, corruption, drugs, revenge and murder keep readers flipping the pages. Keith Lee Johnson is a writing master! (LBS) He weaves an intricate story, exciting characters and a story-line together so thick you can’t imagine putting the book down.

I cannot even begin to tell you how long this book has been on my shelf. After reading one or two of J.D. Mason’s other titles, I decided it was time to read what was already on my shelf. I’m really glad that I did, while I’m also disappointed that I waited so long.
In two separate stories we meet children John and Connie, who both find themselves homeless. While John’s life begins with his maternal grandmother meeting his needs, he longs to be loved, something she’s incapable of doing. Connie’s mother is unable to put her children’s needs ahead of her own. Connie is the ‘real’ mother and when her mother leaves, she, a child, is forced to grow up sooner than she should. Now adults, John and Connie are broken and hiding from their pasts. When their paths cross, can they fix one another?
J.D. Mason is an artist. She paints the past vividly while weaving you into the future. Each character’s strife is real and allows readers to become immersed from the very beginning. ‘One Day I Saw a Black King’ is a good read. ...more

Avery Belmont is working hard, while trying to attain her masters degree and keep the love flowing between her and boo, Duke. A rehabilitated street dude, Duke found a 9 to 5 and is happy to live in the very neighborhood they grew up in. While she loves Duke dearly, she yearns for more. When subtle changes are made, will Avery and Duke find themselves on opposite sides?
After reading ‘Full Figured’ I’m sure that these pages didn’t belong with this cover. Though both protagonists are plus size women, the book centers more on the relationships they are involved in with men who seem very different from the women’s scope. A size was tossed in here and there, more like an afterthought instead of the focal point of the stories.
I liked both stories. If you got cougar instincts, get your grown woman ON! Though I should remind ‘grown’ women, bed responsibly. You can’t be out here calling yourself a cougar with someone who is underage; that’s still a crime! My biggest issue is with the poor product that URBAN BOOKS/Carl Weber presented. I’ve read Urban Books before and mentioned the editing and here it is again, the editing. Might I suggest the pink slip approach? I didn’t bother with the synopsis beforehand, but I see that La Jill’s characters names changed and the cover does not reflect that. In La Jill’s story the word ‘coworkers’ has been misused in lieu of the word ‘fine.’ I can’t even fathom how that is possible.

I read `My Secrets Your Lies' in 2007. Try as I might, I cannot recall anything about the story, aside from the main characters' names. When I opened `Stud Princess Notorious Vendettas' I was happy to see she'd included a refresher, but it honestly did absolutely nothing for me as I struggled to figure out exactly what was going on.
Deja is busy running Sandrenee's, Sand's club, while Sand is M.I.A. In between booking acts and making sure the business is running, Deja finds time to follow Renee, hoping to get a lead on where Sand could be hold up.
Renee is literally making herself sick, desperate to find Sand and work things out. After everything that's happened, all she wants is a chance to apologize. She's no longer confused; Sand is the only person she loves.
Chyna's all about exacting revenge, manipulating the odds and holding all of the cards. She has Sand cornered and Renee willing to do whatever she wants. She plans to exploit their love to get precisely what she wants.
Plot heavy, secrets revealed with lives forever changed, `Stud Princess Notorious Vendettas' by N`Tyse is an intricate story. Character and detail heavy, I felt as though I was chasing the story as I kept asking, `But why?' There is no denying, N'Tyse can weave some drama. In my opinion, the story is just a little too underdeveloped, and while it ties up in the end, I still feel as if a lot was unsaid.

‘A Piece of Cake’ by Cupcake Brown tells the heartbreaking tale of 11-year-old La’Vette, whose life is instantly turned upside down after discovering her mother’s lifeless body. Unknowingly, La ‘Vette, whose birth name is Cupcake, and her older brother, Larry, aren’t their daddy's biological children, which leaves them in the custody of Mr. Burns, a man they’d never met. While not having to deal with Mr. Burns long, La’ Vette and Larry are forced into the foster care system.
Raped, molested, beaten, starved and ridiculed daily, Cupcake turned to drinking, drugging and tricking to survive. No matter how many times she ran away, or tried to tell someone about the torture she was forced to endure at the hands of her foster parents, she was always shipped back to the home and as a result, she gave up hope of ever having a ‘Brady’ life.
Hustling, stealing, gangbanging and lying made up Cupcake’s resume for fourteen chaotic years. A junk-yard druggie, Cupcake would use any and everyone in order to get what she desired. After a 4-day binge, Cupcake finally asked God for help.
My eyes watered as her innocence was stolen, when she puffed, I inhaled, when she poured, I swallowed. A PIECE OF CAKE by Cupcake Brown is one of those books that captures you. In the beginning, I was hating the one-note story, but as she got older, the story soon became less about abuse, addiction and self-hatred and more about a woman admitting that she needed help. Help that eventually lead her to rehab, to maintain her sobriety, to flee from her past and to not only allow herself to live, love and pray, but dare to dream. This is a remarkable story that should be shared with others.

Tori Carter, a successful event coordinator, understands the importance of always having a back up plan in the event that things don't work out. Unfortunately, for her own wedding, she forgot to make a back up plan. Scuffling, Tori sinks into a mild case of depression as she tries to figure out what's next.
Instead of allowing herself to get lost in a sea of self-pity, Tori decides it would be so much easier to fake it. Sure her heart aches, she loved Roland, her cowardly ex-fiancé, but life goes on. It's not long before she is tossed back in the dating arena, not liking the odds.
Scoffing about the lack of quality dates, Tori and her widowed neighbor, Nelson, realize that they have a ton in common, as neither has found any apt suitors. While Nelson definitely can light a fire, his grief is still boiling, which leaves Tori simmering. Do these two have enough ingredients to make a main course?

I am absolutely enjoying this series. Stacy Hawkins Adams has written a series with a loving, god-fearing family that has real life issues. I really love the characters, the friendships, the love and the connection that the family has with one another. I like how the title, WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, ties into the title and would strongly suggest this series to all. ...more

Four married couples share meals, laughs and outings. While they are all friends, they have limited what information has been privy to the entire group.
Unknowingly, Jamie, Renee and Aria have shared deep dark secrets with Jessa Bell. When Jessa Bell's husband, Marc, is killed in a motorcycle accident, the friendships stay exactly the same. Friends relishing in good times, none of the women worried in the least that their dirty little secrets would ever be revealed.
As the four girlfriends plan to spend a day at the spa while the men folk are off fishing, Jessa Bell, sends a text message explaining that one of their husbands will not be returning home to them, but instead will be coming home to her.
Angry, betrayed and hurt, Jamie, Renee and Aria are well aware of the reasons why it could very well be each of them, but are shocked to find that their friends' picture-perfect lives are also at risk.
MESSAGE FROM A MISTRESS by Niobia Bryant is hot off the presses intriguing. You spend the entire day in limbo with Jamie, Renee, and Aria watching as Jessa plots. You get to know intimate details about each woman. I hate to have to wait for sequels for this very reason, but I'm looking forward to how this will play out.
