Claire Roth has entered into a Faustian bargain with a powerful gallery owner by agreeing to forge the Degas in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But as she begins her work, she starts to suspect that this long-missing masterpiece—the very one that had been hanging at the Gardner for one hundred years—may itself be a forgery. The Art Forger is a thrilling novel about seeing—and not seeing—the secrets that lie beneath the canvas.
I really enjoyed this book ~ I have very limited knowledge of art however that did not prevent me from following this. The characters a bit 2 dimensional, but I found it hard to put down at times. ...more

Winifred Allen needs a vacation.
Stifled by a soul-crushing job, devastated by the death of her beloved brother, and lonely after the end of a fifteen-year marriage, Wini is feeling vulnerable. So when her three best friends insist on a high-octane getaway for their annual girls’ trip, she signs on, despite her misgivings.
What starts out as an invigorating hiking and rafting excursion in the remote Allagash Wilderness soon becomes an all-too-real nightmare: A freak accident leaves the women stranded, separating them from their raft and everything they need to survive. When night descends, a fire on the mountainside lures them to a ramshackle camp that appears to be their lifeline. But as Wini and her friends grasp the true intent of their supposed saviors, long buried secrets emerge and lifelong allegiances are put to the test. To survive, Wini must reach beyond the world she knows to harness an inner strength she never knew she possessed.
This IMMEDIATELY caught my interest from page one and didn't wane at any point. The characters are very believable and I often found myself pondering what I would do in their situation. There was never a point where I felt like I had this book figured out, it kept me in suspense until the end! ...more

I have to say I started this book on my lunch break at 2pm, that is an hour long. I finished this book as soon as I got home. It was a compulsive read. I am thinking I want a sequel...but maybe that is the best part....the author makes us make our own ending. 5 stars all the way around!!...more

Yet when Darby befriends Esme, a Barbizon maid, she's introduced to an entirely new side of New York City: seedy downtown jazz clubs where the music is as addictive as the heroin that's used there, the startling sounds of bebop, and even the possibility of romance.
Over half a century later, the Barbizon's gone condo and most of its long-ago guests are forgotten. But rumors of Darby's involvement in a deadly skirmish with a hotel maid back in 1952 haunt the halls of the building as surely as the melancholy music that floats from the elderly woman's rent-controlled apartment. It's a combination too intoxicating for journalist Rose Lewin, Darby's upstairs neighbor, to resist—not to mention the perfect distraction from her own imploding personal life. Yet as Rose's obsession deepens, the ethics of her investigation become increasingly murky, and neither woman will remain unchanged when the shocking truth is finally revealed.
The premise of this story is great, women in the 50's living in a hotel with a "housemother". There was so much potential...however it fell flat. The characters were as stiff as cardboard and I just couldn't invoke any feeling from them. ...more

If he had not shown such enthusiasm for this I would have put it down long before the more than 600 pages.
I could not find a story here...more rather disconnected events, introduced characters and story line arcs that were completely unconnected. I kept going with the story because I kept thinking "There has to be something yet to come" ....there was nothing to come, just time I can never get back.
I am only giving it a 2 because my co-worker LOVED it and was horribly sad when it was finished. ...more

When an Amish boy is kidnapped, a bishop, fearful for the safety of his followers, plunges three outsiders into the traditionally closed society of the "Plain Ones."
I have read many many Amish books and I just had a hard time with this one. You don't have an opportunity to even guess at who may have "done it" as the ending came out of left field. ...more
