Unfortunately (and perhaps fortunately), I was spoiled and warned on this one before I started reading it, so I’d mentally prepared myself for potential anger, disappointment, emotional betrayal, and abject misery.
And yep, part of me feels like I’ve been royally bitch slapped.
And part of me feels pretty damned emotional, devastated, and weary after reading this.
The (view spoiler)[HEA (hide spoiler)] romance lover in me wants to be mad at J.R. Ward and feel disillusioned and rant in frustration, but dammit, I still really freaking liked the overall story. So, I’m giving this a somewhat reluctant and begrudging 4 stars.

I’m a devoted J.R. Ward fan, and I looovedCovet. But I have to be honest; my enthusiasm for this series has somewhat dwindled.
I think it’s partly because of the yearlong gap in releases and that I read so many books in between. I just can’t keep everything straight with all the Devina/Jim/Sissy/Adrian and battle for souls drama that seems to get more confusing with each book. And I also feel like way too much time is spent on Devina and all her OCD and idiosyncrasies, not to mention her and Jim’s depraved, hateful, twisted, vengeful use of (view spoiler)[sex (hide spoiler)] as a weapon in their good versus evil war with each other.
I loved Duke! He was a seriously yummy, growly, broody, tortured alpha hero. I devoured every scene he was in, but I wish he’d been given additional page time. The relationship between him and Cait was much more satisfying than the romance storyline in Rapture. And their sex scenes were yowza hot! But I was still left wanting extra Duke, further time spent on the romance, and a more satisfying, detailed HEA.
Although my interest in the series has slightly diminished, I’m curious how the battle will play out and who wins the war and hopeful of a HEA for Jim, so I’ll still read on to find out.
I was only going to give 3 GR stars for my rating, but I loved Duke and his steamy romance with Cait so much that I added another star and bumped my rating to 3.5 stars. This probably would’ve been just a 2 star read for me if it wasn’t for Duke.

This is one of the rare times that I actually liked the movie a lot more than the book. Perhaps I would’ve enjoyed the story more had I read it before seeing the film. But alas, it was disappointing and boring after experiencing City of Bones on the big screen.
I don’t have much interest now in reading the rest of the series, except that I’m anxious for answers to some unresolved questions and events from this and the movie.
(view spoiler)[Jace and Clary aren’t really brother and sister, right? (hide spoiler)] Because if they are, then that’s seriously disappointing...and damn icky. If they aren’t, do they end up together?
I guess I’ll find out if/when the other books get made into movies. Or maybe (hopefully) one of my GR friends can give me the scoop so I don’t have to wait for those revelations?
If I was rating this based on my enjoyment of the movie, it would earn 5 stars because I found it thrilling and entertaining. Unfortunately, I can’t quite say the same for the book, so 2 ½-3 stars.

I'm a big Gena Showalter and LOTU fan, but this was a disappointment for me. Kane has never been one of my favorite warriors, and I just couldn't get into the story. It was too slow and dragged at times, and the Fae element didn't really interest me. The steam factor was just a low simmer and never quite sizzled. William's scenes and his sarcastic humor kept it from being a total bust. Overall, this was just an okay addition to the series. Hopefully Torin's book will be better, and I can't wait for William's story!...more

I’m an avid, loyal J.R. Ward fan and love the Fallen Angels series, but this was a bit disappointing. It just didn’t have the same oomph like the previous books, and I wasn’t as invested in the story or characters this time around. The dark, edgy, biting snarkasm that’s one of Ward’s trademarks seemed lacking in this, and overall it honestly fell kind of flat for me. I’m not going to write a full review, but needless to say I was expecting more, especially considering the steep $16.23 that I paid for it.
But I have absolutely no doubt that Ward’s next (much anticipated release) Lover At Last will make up for this...and then some!
