I’ve had Viehl’s Darkyn series on my TBR shelf for quite some time now, but I’d made a decision not to start on5 stars – Vampire/Urban Fantasy Romance
I’ve had Viehl’s Darkyn series on my TBR shelf for quite some time now, but I’d made a decision not to start on any new series until I’ve caught up with all the others that I’m following. Oh well, resolutions are made to be broken, right? I have to say that in this case, I’m glad because I found this to be an engrossing and chilling read.
As some other reviewers have noted, it leans more towards urban fantasy rather than straight paranormal romance due to the dark, gritty, violent, and graphic content and the fact that it doesn’t have the typical, declared HEA ending. But that didn’t lessen my enjoyment at all, perhaps since I knew ahead of time to expect it, or maybe I just loved it because of the top-notch writing, spellbinding story, strong, interesting characters, fascinating medical science aspect, captivating history of the Darkyn, unique take on some of the usual vampire clichés, and twisted, demented religious zealots as the villains. The Brethren monks reminded me of the fanatical priests in Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, and yes, I admit that I loved that book.
As for the “romance” part of the story, it is a very slow building, reluctant, volatile love-hate relationship between the H/H, but there’s a kissing scene involving fangs that’s extremely erotic, even more so than when they finally have sex. Although the “I love you’s” are expressed between the H/H, there is still a lot left unresolved between them, other characters, and with the story in general, as well as having a slight cliffhanger ending.
Overall, this was a nice surprise, a thrilling read, and something different to re‘vamp’ (pun intended) the paranormal romance reading slump I’ve been experiencing lately. It looks like I’ve got yet another series to catch up on! 5 stars!

Has the stress and hectic pace of the holiday season got you down? Are you feeling a bit more bah humbug Scrooge than joyful Buddy the Elf? Do you need a good dose of holiday spirit?
Got Mistletoe? is a delightful, sweet, heartwarming, and romantic story that’s sure to provide some holiday cheer, inspiration, and a reminder that human connection and love are the reasons we get up every day and why the holiday season is a such a perfect time to celebrate that with those we love.
For such a short story, I was impressed by the level of details that give real insight into Blake and Ryan’s characters and made their immediate emotional connection and fast developed relationship believable, heartfelt, touching, and hot. I hope to see a follow up story about Blake and Ryan to find out where life takes these devoted lovers in the future.
Here are a couple of my favorite lines:
“Blake said, fighting the urge to reach out and run his fingers lightly on his elf’s sweet face. His elf. Good Lord, he’d already started thinking of the imp as his, and Ryan had barely said more than a few words to him.”
“Ryan knew he was the type of man a lot of men didn’t find attractive. Oh they thought he was okay in a rainbow-flag-flying kind of way.”
Got Mistletoe? is guaranteed to leave a big smile on your face and give your heart a Grinch size makeover! 5 stars! ...more
This is another kick-ass read in the awesome, wildly entertaining The Blades of the Rose series that’s an intriguing, uni5+ stars – Paranormal Romance
This is another kick-ass read in the awesome, wildly entertaining The Blades of the Rose series that’s an intriguing, unique blend of Victorian-era historical and paranormal. Scoundrel is an exciting combination of action, adventure, magic, mystery, treasure hunting, seafaring, dangerous intrigue, humor, and steamy romance with an exotic Greek setting and fabulous characters.
It reads like a thrilling action-adventure movie that grabbed my attention from the very first page and never let go. I loved it! I didn’t think the series could get any better than Warrior, but I enjoyed this just as much. And that’s largely because of sexy, shameless Scoundrel hero, Bennett Day, who’s just to die for yummy.
Bennett Day loves the ladies. As an agent for The Blades of the Rose, a secret society dedicated to protecting the world’s magic sources from the evil Heirs who seek to obtain and abuse them for their own gain and power, his primary duty is always to the mission. But if all in a days work, the success of an operation should happen to involve getting under a woman’s skirt and petticoats or seducing a married woman to obtain vital information? Well, then that’s just gravy. The notorious ladies’ man has always been able to keep things carefree, easy, and aloof when it comes to women he’s attracted, seduced, and/or bedded, but then again, Bennett’s never encountered a woman like London Harcourt before.
The womanizing adventurer finally meets his match in intelligent, spirited widow London and finds himself strangely and completely captivated by her. It’s too bad that she’s the daughter of a top member of the Blades sworn enemy, the Heirs. Now it’s up to Bennett and some of his Blade allies to convince expert linguist London to help them translate an ancient dialect in order to find a magical source that’s hidden somewhere in the Greek isles before the Heirs find and use it for their evil aims.
Bennett is a flirtatious, affable, and charming adventure seeker who plays the part of devil-may-care scoundrel, rake, rogue, wastrel, and libertine proudly and with debonair ease. He and London share an explosive attraction and magnetic chemistry that turns into a wildly passionate affair in the midst of exploration and danger. He’s certain that he’ll eventually be able to move on easily when things cool down, like he always does. But when Bennett and London traverse the perilous waters of emotion, will he still be able to play the unaffected scoundrel? Whew...the scenes between these two are intense, fun, and smokin’ HOT!
And Bennett? He had me melting and swooning as if I’d been baking out under the blazing Greek sun all day. And I really liked that much of the story is told from Bennett’s POV because his internal thoughts flat-out cracked me up. He’s sexy, fun, infectiously cheerful, witty, wickedly charming, protective, strong, honest, and courageous, and when he realizes and declares his feelings...it’s utterly romantic, sweet, and sigh-worthy.
There’s also a great side romance between quirky secondary characters, witch Athena and sea captain Kallas, whose constant bickering masks an underlying attraction and simmering sexual tension that they fight like hell to ignore but eventually comes to a boil.
If you like romance with lots of action and adventure, humor, steamy love scenes, a smart, plucky heroine, and a to die for, scoundrel hero with a heart of gold, then don’t miss this highly enjoyable read! Big 5 stars!
Although I didn't enjoy this quite as much as The Duke and I, it's a heartwarming, funny, and charming romance wit5 stars – Historical/Regency Romance
Although I didn't enjoy this quite as much as The Duke and I, it's a heartwarming, funny, and charming romance with an amusing H/H. I really disliked Anthony in The Duke And I, and I thought he was an overbearing, judgmental jerk most of the time. So I wasn't sure how I'd feel about him in this, and although he acted like an indignant ass towards Kate for a large part of the story and was still bossy towards his siblings, I understood his motivations and actions better after learning more about his background.
Anthony's fierce need to fulfill his responsibilities, protect his family's future, and live up to his father's legacy is the driving force behind everything he does. He initially sees Kate's interference in his plan to marry her sister as an annoying obstacle that must be overcome, by any means necessary...even seduction! He's vowed to never fall in love, but when Anthony and Kate's animosity and rivalry results in powerful attraction and explosive passion, will they take an even greater chance and dare to risk their hearts? Or will his fears stemming from events in the past be too much for them to overcome?
I might not have cared very much for Anthony in the beginning, but I ended up falling for him nearly as hard as Kate did before it was over. The Viscount Who Loved Me is another sweet, engaging romance in the delightful Bridgertons series, and I'm looking forward to more, especially Colin's story in Romancing Mister Bridgerton. (I just wish they were a bit steamier!)...more

This is my second favorite book of the BDB series. I just love warrior, brother Rhage, aka Hollywood. He is flirtatious, romantic, sweet, funny, vulnerable, adorably goofy, and deliciously sexy. This is a great start to a fun, dazzlingly romantic series about four young ladies with very different personalities and backgrounds entering society who form a deep bond of friendship that grounds them as they traverse the rocky course of relationships and husband hunting in stuffy Victorian era England.
Beautiful Annabelle Peyton is determined to find a wealthy suitor with a high position in society to wed in order to save her family from financial ruin. Simon Hunt is a commoner with a self-made empire of vast wealth and power who infuriates and tempts her at every turn. He makes it clear that although he wants to be the one to introduce Annabelle to the wonders of passion, he won’t offer her marriage. Of course, it doesn’t take long before he falls hard for Annabelle, but can Simon and her friends, the wallflowers, convince her to take a chance on a love match?

This series is one of my favorite indulgences. I mean you just can’t go wrong with yummy as sin firefighter heroes, smokin’ HOT sex that’s way steamier than most mainstream romances, Jerry Bruckheimer summer blockbuster worthy suspense, and studtastic cover hunks. And oh yeah, did I mention sexy firefighters having blazing hot sex?
Only this time around we get two firefighters setting the sheets on fire! Recovering alcoholic Captain Sean Tanner is still grieving the loss of his wife and family and trying to make amends with his Station Five crew. The last thing Sean expected was to become romantically entangled with his younger female subordinate, Eve Marshall. Eve’s been in lust and love with Sean for years, despite that he’s always been unavailable and unattainable in some way or another, first off limits as a married man and her boss and then because he was emotionally damaged. But Sean is finally sober and on the road to recovery, and loyal, caring Eve might be exactly what he needs to kindle his neglected libido and heal his shattered heart.
It’s another emotional, erotic, and action-packed addition (finale?) to the awesomely hot Firefighters of Station Five series!

Arson, blackmail, murder, intrigue...this top-notch, intense, taut, and emotional romantic suspense thrill ride, full of sh5 stars – Romantic Suspense
Arson, blackmail, murder, intrigue...this top-notch, intense, taut, and emotional romantic suspense thrill ride, full of shocking twists and surprises, is Karen Rose at her very finest.
Series fans (me included!) have long awaited to die for hero David Hunter’s story, and Silent Scream finds the sweet, caring, sexy, do-gooder firefighter, aka Mr. Perfect, caught in the middle of a dangerous, twisted arson and multiple homicide investigation that reunites him with detective Olivia Sutherland.
I’m a Karen Rose fan, and although I’ve enjoyed all of her previous works, there have been numerous times that I wished for a little more romance since her books tend to lean much heavier on the suspense. Well, I’m happy to say that the romance element in Silent Scream was verrry satisfying and much stronger than in prior installments. David and Olivia are both emotionally damaged in some way, which is a common theme for KR’s characters, and have issues related to secrets from David’s past and Olivia’s job that have kept them apart. There are some very poignant moments as their relationship develops, and the love scenes are passionate, tender, thick with desperate yearning and longing, and pretty darn steamy, too! David is just flat-out too dreamy and yummy for words, and he and Olivia are by far my favorite couple of the series.
It’s an excellent, riveting romantic suspense read with pulse-pounding action, chilling twists and turns, and touching, hot romance that’s not to be missed by Karen Rose fans. And be sure to read the free Silent Scream epilogue, available on the author’s website, that expands on David’s and Olivia’s HEA and gives updates on other, favorite series characters...it’s delicious icing on the cake! Big 5 stars!

The heroine’s extreme horniness was hilarious...and justified with a sexy, sweet studcake like Joe living next door!

This is a sequel of sorts to Whipped Cream and Handcuffs about Tessa’s best friend Valery “Blush” Taylor and Caleb’s best friend Dr. Marc Ford, who have acted like sworn enemies since high school, even though they have both secretly lusted after and loved the other for years. Caleb’s successful seduction of Tessa gives Blush a wicked idea of how to tease Marc, by sending mysterious packages with erotic photography of her and sexy silk scarves. But how will she respond when her plan for anonymity is foiled and Marc shows up, with her silk scarf in hand, intent on seducing her? WOW! What an extraordinary, freakin’ fun read this was! I loved it! Warrior is one of the most unique, entertaining romances that I’ve read, with an exotic setting, captivating, complex characters that you’ll love, a thrilling combination of Victorian-era historical and paranormal, and an exciting, perfect mix of action, adventure, steampunk, magic, suspense, humor, and blistering hot love scenes.
And if you’re concerned or doubtful about the level of romance, no need to worry at all because it’s more than satisfying and plenty steamy. In fact, the romance is one of the strongest, and definitely sexiest, elements of the story.
The relationship between fierce, protective, honorable, brave, gruff, loyal, hardened warrior hero, Captain Gabriel Huntley, who’s more about actions than words, and spunky, bookish, feisty, spinsterish, kick-butt heroine, Thalia Burgess, who’s all the more relatable and lovable because she’s genuine and tough yet insecure, is the best thing about this. Their attraction and chemistry is magnetic and explosive from the start, and their romance is believable, passionate, fun, emotional, volatile, touching, and intensely erotic. Gabriel and Thalia share a soulful, deep connection and become each other’s warrior, protector, and savior.
I love a good action adventure, especially with a to die for, sexy warrior hero and a strong, plucky heroine who can stand by him in a fight without being emasculating, and this more than delivered...it kicked major ass! I had an absolute blast reading it! Warrior is an amazing, highly enjoyable read worthy of big 5 stars! But if you still need some convincing, here are some of the things that make it so awesome.
A = Action, adventure, arresting artifacts, archery, and author Archer’s amazing writing.
W = Warrior hero and heroine who bravely fight together to save the world from tyranny (see evil villains below).
E = Evil, elitist villains who’s lust for greed, power, and global domination threaten all of humankind.
S = Suspense, scorching hot sex, secret societies, sandstorms, windswept steppes, severe desert landscapes, and supernatural elements.
O = Occult, occasional laugh out loud humor, and odd, fascinating characters.
M = Magic, mystery, majestic Mongolian setting, multiculturalism, and mysticism.
E = Exotic locations, cultures, languages, and customs and erotic romance.
And how about this “Warrior” to play the part of Gabriel?
