Merde!...What is it about a roguishly, ruggedly sexy alpha hero spouting Cajun words and phrases that’s just so damn fan yourself, smokin’ hot?!?!
This is the second installment in the thrilling Passion for Danger romantic suspense series that began with Shoot to Thrill, and it’s another steamy, gripping, and action-packed read! I loved it! I can’t wait for the third and final book, A Kiss to Kill, to come out in April’2010!
If you’re a fan of intense and exciting military themed romantic suspense with strong heroines, sexy alpha heroes, heavy action, and scorching hot love scenes, then I highly recommend this awesome series! Big 5 stars!...more
I knew going into this that readers tend to have a love or hate reaction to this book and that many consider Rome to be3 stars – Contemporary Romance
I knew going into this that readers tend to have a love or hate reaction to this book and that many consider Rome to be a jackass. I didn’t really love or hate it, and yes, Rome definitely acted like a Grade A asshat for most of the book. What especially turned me off about his character was that he admitted (view spoiler)[lusting after his deceased wife’s best friend, Sarah, from the beginning, and even got a hard-on for her at his freaking wedding. WTF? What kind of man fantasizes about shagging his best friend’s wife at his f*ng wedding?!?! And if he was so damn attracted to Sarah from the start when they first worked together, before he met his wife, why didn’t he ever act on it? It makes no sense that Rome never asked Sarah out, especially considering that he’s the kind of man who goes after what he wants ruthlessly and doesn’t take no for an answer. And the fact that she was attracted to him in return and in love with him just makes it harder to understand why he never took action and that it took so damn long for them to get together. (hide spoiler)]
But what annoyed me most about this book was how much of a spineless doormat Sarah was. I understand that he’s grief-stricken, but damn her internalizing everything and being satisfied with scraps was irritating. (view spoiler)[And the way she was so easily accepting of him having nothing to do with her pregnancy or their baby was pathetic. (hide spoiler)] I just found her self-sacrificing behavior annoying rather than admirable.
Yes, there was an HEA, but it just wasn’t all that sweet for me when it finally came. 3 stars.

I've been in love with Micah ever since Sweet Surrender, and I'd imagined that his story would probably be the darkest of the series. Well, Micah really showed his tortured, brooding, cold side in this, and it definitely has some heavy and hardcore content. And in fact, there were times that Micah made Damon from Sweet Persuasion seem like a total pussycat. Despite a few moments here and there that stretched my comfort zone just a bit, especially during the 30+ page fivesome scene, I found it completely riveting, beautifully written, and seriously H-A-W-T! And it made me realize how much I love this entire series and wonder why I didn't rate them all 5 stars?!
I really hope Ms. Banks writes Cole's story at some point in the future 'cause he really fascinated me in Sweet Seduction and especially his part in this....more
Wicked Ties is one of my all-time favorite erotic reads, and I loved Decadent as well, so I was r**spoiler alert** 4 stars – Romantic Suspense/Erotica
Wicked Ties is one of my all-time favorite erotic reads, and I loved Decadent as well, so I was really looking forward to Luc’s story in Delicious. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations, mostly because both Luc and Alyssa (and some side characters too) made me so violently furious at times that I wanted to get my head smack on or throw the book across the room.
A couple of alternate titles for this could be: “A Chef, a Stripper, and a Baby” or “The Arrogant Dick, the Wishy-Washy Doormat, the Creepy Bouncer, and Baby Makes Four”.
The list of people I wanted to slap in this book was a mile long.
Luc, with his condemnatory, snobbish ‘strippers are all unfeeling, uneducated whores only good for hardcore f**cking’ and ‘I have to marry someone who’s pure as snow and goes to Bible study regularly, even if I’m not attracted to them, in order to be a father’ crap was just ridiculous.
Alyssa was a strong, smart, independent, confident woman in so many ways, but at the same time, her relentless pursuit of Luc, a man who so clearly judged and treated her like a whore, was pathetic.
And then you have possessive, clingy bouncer/bodyguard Tyler who sticks to Alyssa like a persistent, annoying rash constantly causing trouble for Luc and Alyssa. Argh!
Oh yeah, and some creepy stalker and baby drama thrown in, too. I swear, was there anyone not stalking Alyssa in this book?!?!
But Shayla Black is a great writer and can pen some seriously scorching hot, ‘delicious’ly erotic love scenes, which is why I still rated this 4 stars, despite the fact that the H/H made me crazy with frustration. I’m really looking forward to cold, dark, and mysterious Hunter’s (who was just about the only character in this that I didn’t want to smack) story in Surrender to Me.

Anyone who's read my review for Playing with Fire knows how much I loved it, especially heroine Belle's sarcastic humo4 ½-5 stars – Paranormal Romance
Anyone who's read my review for Playing with Fire knows how much I loved it, especially heroine Belle's sarcastic humor and the sexy romance between her and uber yummalicious agent/assassin Rome.
So I was totally ooh goody, goody gum drops for more Belle and Rome in Twice as Hot; but there's trouble in paradise for the engaged lovers, and it ended up being an emotional roller coaster to get to their HEA. Luckily, there's plenty of fun, action, hot sexual tension, and snarky humor to entertain along the way.
I was gaga for Rome in Playing with Fire, but he acted like a real jerk for much of this. But Belle's not a simpering damsel in distress, so she refused to play the jilted, wilted flower and never gave up on them as a couple.
There were a lot of funny moments, but I think the scene with Belle and her sidekick Tanner discussing possible superhero names for newly acquired, and formerly badgal, agent Elaine, aka Draino, was one of my favorites.
"Oh, and guess what? I've renamed her Super Absorber," Tanner said. I tried not to cringe. "You realize that name makes her sound like a tampon, right?"
So although I didn't enjoy Twice as Hot as much as Playing with Fire, it's still a superfun, supersexy, and highly entertaining read. 4 ½-5 stars!
“Her chances of a decent marriage were about to be dashed-and all because of a ferret.” And thus begins the wonderfully5++ stars – Historical Romance
“Her chances of a decent marriage were about to be dashed-and all because of a ferret.” And thus begins the wonderfully romantic third installment in the saga of the eccentric Hathaway family, Tempt Me At Twilight.
Poppy Hathaway loves her quirky family, but she yearns for a conventional, quiet, normal, stable, peaceful, predictable, albeit boring, life. She believes wholeheartedly that she’s found her true soul’s desire in her beloved Michael Bayning, who’s courted her in private but has so far withheld a proposal due to concerns over his father’s likely disapproval over the match. When fate (in the form of a wily, on the loose ferret named Dodger) results in a clandestine meeting with mysterious, wealthy, powerful, reclusive, hotelier Harry Rutledge, Poppy’s future is forever altered.
Harry, owner of London’s most famous Rutledge Hotel, lives a rather solitary existence and never expects or desires to fall in love, but he’s immediately enamored and infatuated by lovely, intelligent, spirited Poppy and sets out to win her for himself. Poppy’s heart and devotion belong to Michael, but she still can’t help but be a bit intrigued and flattered by the enigmatic and dynamic Harry, especially with his persistent courtship and shocking proposal.
When Poppy finds herself heartbroken and her reputation and future security at risk, she accepts Harry’s marriage proposal, but then painful secrets are revealed that shatter her trust and wound her aching heart even further. What does a woman do when she finds herself married to the villain?
Kleypas is a master at turning tortured, cold, manipulative, cynical, ruthless men (even near villains) into the most sigh-delicious, swoon-worthy heroes in romance. Harry reminded me a little of Simon Hunt from Secrets of a Summer Night, only with a strong dose of Devil in Winter St. Vincent’s ruthlessness and vindictiveness thrown in. And sweet, caring, smart, bighearted, exuberant Poppy was the perfect compliment and match for cold-hearted, jaded, intrinsically lonely Harry...I just loved them together!
Although I enjoyed Mine Till Midnight, mainly for dreamy, yummy Cam Rohan, and loved Kev’s and Win’s achingly beautiful romance in Seduce Me at Sunrise, Tempt Me At Twilight, with its compelling, unforgettable story, beguiling, complex characters, strong depth of touching emotion, and lush sensuality that’s all blended together brilliantly, is vintage Kleypas and my favorite of the Hathaways series so far. It’s a splendid, moving, heartfelt, and utterly romantic read that’s completely riveting from beginning to end and just sheer historical romance perfection. Big 5 stars!
“I’ll never be sorry about it. Because if I hadn’t done it, you’d be his now. And he only wanted you if it was easy for him. But I want you any way I can get you. Not because you’re beautiful or clever or kind or adorable, although devil knows you’re all those things. I want you because there’s no one else like you, and I don’t ever want to start a day without seeing you.”
“Do you know what a balance wheel is?” She shook her head slightly. “There’s one in every clock or watch. It rotates back and forth without stopping. It’s what makes the ticking sound...what makes the hands move forward to mark the minutes. Without it, the watch wouldn’t work. You’re my balance wheel, Poppy.”
“I have so much love for you, I could fill rooms with it. Buildings. You’re surrounded by it wherever you go, you walk through it, breathe it...it’s in your lungs, and under your tongue, and between your fingers and toes...” His mouth moved passionately over hers, urging her lips apart. It was a kiss to level mountains and shake stars from the sky. It was a kiss to make angels faint and demons weep...a passionate, demanding, soul-searing kiss that nearly knocked the earth off its axis. Or at least that was how Poppy felt about it.

I’m a big fan of Alden’s Gemini Men romantic suspense series about the alpha ex-military Taggart brothers, twins Ethan and Derek and eldest Danny, who run a private security firm specializing in sensitive, undercover work for very high-profile, elite clientele. Ethan in Caught is the easygoing playboy brother, Derek in Kept is the quiet, cold, serious, and hardhearted of the three, and then there’s broody, badass Danny in Unleashed. I didn’t enjoy this story quite as much as Kept because I found Danny’s cold demeanor and bitter, borderline cruel, attitude towards his former love, Caroline, a bit much to take at times. He was a real mean SOB, and even though he makes some amends in the end for acting like a total a**hole, I still wanted a bit more groveling. Even so, it’s another entertaining read in a terrific series with hot alpha heroes, intriguing plots, thrilling action, satisfying suspense, and steamy sex....more
Reading one of Larissa Ione’s Demonica novels is a naughty good time, like getting a pedicure and going shopping with yo5+ stars – Paranormal Romance
Reading one of Larissa Ione’s Demonica novels is a naughty good time, like getting a pedicure and going shopping with your best friend on a hooky day from work, eating the best Vosges or Godiva chocolate, getting flirted with at the grocery store by a hot guy when you’re in sweats and wearing no makeup, or having a happy hour with your best gal pals and laughing and talking about men and sex over Mexican martinis. Yep...Ecstasy Unveiled is deliciously wicked fun alright with a hotter-than-sin, demon bad boy hero to drool and die for!
Seminus half-breed demon Lore has been forced to act as an assassin for a powerful, malevolent master, but his latest assignment will be his toughest yet and bring him much too close to home, when he’s tasked with killing a human friend of his newly found demon brothers, who also happens to be a Sentinel guarded by earthbound angel Idess.
Idess is determined to protect her human charge so she can finally earn her wings and ascend to Heaven, and she’s not about to let assassin Lore thwart her mission, even if it means chaining him to her bed and using seduction as a weapon. But when duty and fighting turns to explosive attraction and wicked desire, can an innocent angel and a bad boy demon find common ground and work together, even as passion ignites between them?
Whew boy, did I looove Lore and want some more! He’s a dark, cynical, guilt-ridden, deeply tortured hero who’s lived a life of agonizing pain and brutal violence and been denied intimate human contact due to his gift and curse of causing death by touch, but underneath all that lurks a heart of gold, tarnished though it may be. It just takes a beautiful, sweet, kick-ass Xena-esque warrior angel to unveil his protective, romantic, loyal, and caring nature.
I love all the demon brothers: level-headed and intensely sexy doctor Eidolon, protector with a bondage fetish Shade, and my favorite snarky demon vampire and former playboy Wraith, but I think leather wearing bad boy assassin with a death touch and a soft side Lore just might be my favorite demon hottie of the pack now. Yowza...he’s just so lusciously yummy! Lore and Idess made such a sexy couple and their love scenes were steamy, yet full of vulnerability, emotion, and tenderness.
Ecstasy Unveiled is a tantalizing blend of scorching sensuality, dark, sarcastic humor, wicked hot demons, thrilling action, horrific villains, and captivating romance with a H/H that you’ll fall in love with. Ione is a master of paranormal romance and her spellbinding, imaginative world of the Demonica continues to amaze me with its refreshing creativity, sexy, intriguing, unique characters, dark wit, raw emotion, and powerful eroticism. I just wish I didn’t have to wait so long for Sin Undone to come out! Big 5 stars!

Rachel Gibson has a knack for making me enjoy her books, despite that her heroes are often players and jerks who exhibit at least one major asshat moment with the heroine.
Nick is the boy who teases, taunts, and pulls the girl’s pigtails because he secretly likes her. But in this case, it was a snowball in the face that gave the heroine twin black eyes. And as an adult, he continues his mean streak where the heroine is concerned, but it’s all because he’s fiercely attracted to her and frustrated over what he can’t have.
Delaney and Nick zoom from enemies with a past engaging in a snarky battle of wills and insults and fighting their explosive attraction (while he’s fooling around and flirting with half the floozies in town) to having smokin’ hot sex. Then suddenly, things get too serious between them and Nick freaks out and has that aforementioned asshat moment. Eventually he realizes he acted like a jerk and what follows is some pretty sweet groveling.
I didn’t really feel the “romance” all that convincingly in this one, but the H/h have an amusing hate/love relationship, nonetheless. So Truly Madly Yours is another entertaining read from Ms. Gibson’s backlist. 4-4 ½ stars!
Nick’s sigh-worthy groveling:
(view spoiler)[“I have loved you my whole life, Delaney. I can’t remember a day when I didn’t love you. I loved you the day I practically knocked you out with a snowball. I loved you when I flattened the tires on your bike so I could walk you home. I loved you when I saw you hiding behind the sunglasses at the Value Rite, and I loved you when you loved that loser son of a bitch Tommy Markham. I never forgot the smell of your hair or the texture of your skin the night I laid you on the hood of my car at Angel Beach. So don’t tell me I don’t love you.”
“I know. I know I’ve been a jerk, and I don’t have a good excuse. But touching you and loving you, and knowing you were planning to leave me, made me crazy. After we made love the second time, I began to think maybe you’d decide to stay with me. I started to think about you and me waking up every day together for the rest of our lives. I even thought about kids and taking some of those breathing classes when you got pregnant. Maybe buying one of those mini-vans.”(hide spoiler)]

There’s probably not much left to say that hasn’t already been covered since many of my GR friends have already written such great reviews, so I’ll just join the bandwagon and do a little bit of gushing.
Letters to a Secret Lover is a fun, sweet, sexy, touching, smokin’ hot contemporary romance with a H/H who’s initial opposition transitions to an explosive attraction that results in a steamy affair and of course leads to a deep emotional connection. It’s reminiscent of Blake’s Destiny series and Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series (only waaay hotter) because of the charming small town setting of Moose Falls and endearing secondary characters that add an extra fun spark to the story.
I really liked Lindsey, even though she was a bit airheaded, naïve, shallow, and selfish at times, but she was also nice, funny, adorably cute and quirky, and most of all, real. I could totally see myself shopping and laughing over cosmos with her...or raiding her designer shoes. Her tendency to babble nonstop over ridiculous, random things when she was nervous was hilarious. I thought she was a perfect fit for Rob, who was such an incredibly sweet, romantic, caring soul underneath his surly, gruff, guarded, lone wolf, lumberjack persona. I just about melted over the way he insisted on always holding Lindsey’s hand, once she started to crack through his tough shell, and his fetish for her extravagant, animal print lingerie cracked me up. Their love scenes were supercharged with passion and scorching hot!
Rob’s painful, mysterious past and dangerous secrets were handled and revealed in a realistic, honest way. I just knew Lindsey’s revealing private details about her affair with Rob, however innocently, on her blog was going to have some serious consequences, but the twist and turn of events and character reactions still took me by surprise, which I liked since I find it irritating when I easily predict exactly what’s going to happen in a story.
So kudos to Ms. Blake for keeping the characters genuine, the story refreshing, the suspense exciting, the emotion compelling, and the romance extra steamy! It’s an enjoyable, moving romance with a lovable H/H that had me laughing, sighing, smiling, reaching for some ice water, and even crying. 5 stars!
Selfless, determined single mom Kerri Sullivan is in a desperate struggle to save her 9-year-old son Cody from a rare, d5 stars – Contemporary Romance
Selfless, determined single mom Kerri Sullivan is in a desperate struggle to save her 9-year-old son Cody from a rare, debilitating, and progressive disease and vows to do anything and everything possible and impossible to find him a miracle, even masquerading as superhero Wonder Mom and blackmailing ice cold, ruthless, cynical, emotionless, power hungry, billionaire shark developer Nathan King into funding $15 million dollars for cutting edge research for a potential cure.
After losing his son Daniel to the same crippling disease, Nathan swore to never let anyone in his heart ever again and has erected an impenetrable stone wall facade to ensure that no one ever gets past his cold, hardened exterior. He never expected that a quirky, cute, generous, strong, loving, optimistic, poor, down to earth, and widowed hairdresser single mom would be the one to rattle his foundation, break down his defenses, and make him question his life’s priorities. Add a brave, funny, smart, and lovable kid fighting for his life into the relationship mix, and Nathan frankly doesn’t stand a chance.
The feisty, argumentative banter between Kerri and Nathan that progresses into unexpected friendship, mutual respect, explosive sexual attraction, and ultimately love is charming and old school romance at its best.
I’m not much of a kid person, especially in my romances, but the moments between Kerri and her son Cody are incredibly touching and their unbreakable bond is full of fun teasing, deep love and affection, and life-affirming humor.
It’s a syrupy sweet, emotional, sappy, sad, funny, moving, romantic, touching, and drama filled tearjerker that tugs the heartstrings. It made me smile, laugh, cry, and want to call my mom to tell her how much I love her. 5 stars! ...more
