If there was ever a hero that I wanted to hold and gently rock in my arms while crooning a sweet lullaby or win a giant, plush teddy bear from playing one of those fair games for him, it’s Syn from Born of Fire. He’s one of the most tortured, anguished romantic heroes ever, having endured just about every kind of suffering, abuse, and cruelty imaginable, yet he’s somehow managed to harbor an intrinsic, unbreakable sense of goodness and tenderness that’s all the more remarkable considering the brutality he’s faced could have so easily turned him vicious and cold.
Although I had serious doubts about kick-ass bounty hunter Shahara’s ability to protect, heal, and love Syn the way he deserves, and she did piss me off something fierce a few times, she ultimately proved worthy of him. I believe she’ll take good care of him, but sister better watch out if she ever dare hurt Syn because my good friend Danielle and I will be keeping a close eye on things!
I was blown away by Nyk’s story, Born of Night, which introduced us to the unique, fascinating Ichidian Universe of The League, and although I didn’t enjoy this story quite as much, it’s still a great read with complex, intriguing characters, emotional drama, intense action, and touching, heartbreaking romance. I’ll warn that there aren’t a lot of happy or light moments in this book because our mistreated, kind, sexy, beloved Syn gets the perpetual shaft by life and just about everyone in it. Bearing witness to his pain brought tears to my eyes a few times, but it also makes Syn’s and Shay’s HEA that much sweeter.
Born of Fire is an awesome paranormal/sci-fi romance, with a hero you’ll want to hug tight, cherish, and forever love and keep safe. 5 stars!

I’ve had Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series on my TBR list for quite some time now, but I’m a little bit intimated by the number of books there are to get caught up on. The premise of The League series sounded interesting, the characters seemed intriguing, and with only three books produced so far, it felt a little less daunting of an undertaking. The main word that comes to mind to describe how I felt about this book is...WOW! And if it’s indicative of her other works, then I can certainly understand why Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series is so popular and has such a large fan following.
The Ichidian Universe that SK has created in The League series is unique and fascinating, and I never felt overwhelmed, confused, or bored at all by the world-building...just completely immersed and entertained. And oh my...Assassin Nykyrian is so sexy, mysterious, captivating, and complex, and he’s one of the darkest, most tortured romantic heroes ever. Seriously, he’s right up there with Judd from Caressed By Ice, Dante from A Rush of Wings and In the Blood, and Reyes from The Darkest Pleasure for the best anguished, tarnished hero (although no one can top my beloved Zsadist from Lover Awakened). Nyk’s past is so sad and brutally painful, that it actually brought tears to my eyes, and the romance between him and Kiara is intense, touching, at times heartbreaking, and very hot.
Born of Night is an amazing paranormal romance, and I’m looking forward to more in this awesome series...and hopefully to finally reading the Dark-Hunter books at some point in the future, too! Big 5 stars!

Oh, how I loved, loved this book! I’m a sucker for emotional romances with tortured heroes, and Born in Sin is a touching read featuring one of the most abused and anguished romantic heroes of any that I’ve read. Sin’s unbearably tragic past and continual suffering and mistreatment from others have made him justifiably brooding, jaded, distrustful, reclusive, and full of self-loathing, yet he treats the heroine with gentleness and reverence.
He’s one of the most unforgettable, heartbreaking, and sigh-worthy heroes in Romancelandia. And Callie, the plucky lass who’s determined to convince Sin he’s worthy of love and devotion, is one of the most spirited, steadfast, compassionate, loyal, and endearing heroines ever. Sin and Callie forge a love that is pure, poignant, passionate, inspiring, and truly wondrous.
Although it’s a medieval highland historical romance, Sin reminded me in some ways of another of my all-time favorite tortured heroes, Zsadist from Lover Awakened. And like Zsadist and Bella in Lover Awakened, Sin and Callie in Born in Sin are a treasured Romancelandia couple for the keeper shelf! Big 5 stars!
It’s hard to cast someone as dark, dangerous, and broodingly sexy as Lord Sin, but Eric Bana has his penetrating, midnight eyes. Dress him in all black knight garb, put him on a black war stallion, and give him a sword, and he’d make a compelling, forbidding Lord Sin.
And this sexy knight could portray Sin rather convincingly as well.

Oh how I enjoyed this one! Yes, it’s got the tried and true romance cliché of a brooding, tortured hero who doesn’t believe himself worthy of happiness or love fighting his intense lust for the spirited maiden who’s determined to convince him otherwise. But Master of Desire manages to standout splendidly with its endearing, unforgettable characters, witty dialogue, and the perfect mix of angst, humor, sweetness, and heat.
Draven is such a sigh-worthy hero. I just wanted to hug him tight and help Emily heal his self-loathing and pain. And Emily is one of the pluckiest, most tenderhearted, amiable, and lovable heroines ever. They’re absolutely wonderful together...truly a romantic H/h for the keeper shelf! I just loved this!
Although I’ve enjoyed Sherrilyn Kenyon’s League series, this is the first book I’ve read under her Kinley MacGregor pen name, and I feel like I’ve been missing out. I’ll definitely read more by this author! 5 stars!
