Then, all of the sudden you hit about 1/4 - 1/3 of the was through the book and you can't put it down! The only sad part about this book is that I wont have enough time to read book 4 or 5 before school starts again so I will have to pick up where I'm leaving them next summer. The author is VERY descriptive sometimes, so I admit that I skim some parts because I really don't care about the detail of the trees, rivers, caves, etc. I'm more interested in the characters but it's not that hard to follow even skimming some parts. I've love this series and would recommend them for anyone to read, they are fabulous!(less)

Although I did get all the way through it, it took a lot determination and allowing myself to skim. I read it mostly because I wanted to see the movie when it comes out so I figured I'd read the book. It does contain good life lessons and some fun stories but as the back of the book says, it is a depressed woman's story to find herself. It's depressing at times, uplifting at others. It did end well, its a true story so I'm glad this woman found love and learned to be comfortable in her own skin.
I don't know if I can recommend this book to others. I tried peer pressuring my mom to try to read it (she'd already given up on it once) and she just couldn't do it. All I can say is that I hope the movie brings some life into the story. (less)

It was really good and it kept me hooked but the end is so depressing and sad. It's not a happy uplifting book like the preview of the movie made it look. But my mom and i agreed to read it so we could see the movie together when it comes out. I'd be interested to see what others thought of this one(less)

She has also read and loved the Outlander series so I decided that she has good taste in books and picked this one up. She warned me that the author can be extremely descriptive with nature and such, but to bear with it because she's just trying to give you a good setting. Well I never give up on books so I stuck with it and about half way through, I was HOOKED! I couldn't put it down. It is so good! You fall in love with Ayla and you just get so sucked into the story. It's an amazing story and can't wait to get further into book 2 of the series to find out what happens next!(less)

There must be another book coming out. It was awesome. I am constantly astounded by Gabaldon's ability to keep you so into these books 7 books and probably 7000 pages later, I'm still addicted (and in love with Jamie Fraser!)(less)

This book starts with 2 short stories or "novellas" that have nothing to do with the previous 2 books, i enjoyed them less because of this but on their own they were ok, maybe i'd suggest reading them at a different time or in a different order than i did, but the end is called "The haunted soldier" i think and its a continuation of the first 2 books and i liked it.
Diana Gabaldon is a great writer. Lord John is gay, so it's not the love story that we all love in The Outlander books, but it's still lots of wonderful mystery. (less)

Which is not so great as the love in Outlander, and I wonder if its so necessary but it's there, but i still enjoyed the book. (less)

It felt like it could be the last book in the series, it had closure at the end. I really enjoyed it other than all the politics of this book. If I had to have a least favorite of all the series, this is probably it. It still serves as a vital part of the story but The politics of war and such just didn't interest me as much as the other parts of the story. I do still love the whole Outlander series though!!(less)

If you are a pet person you have to read this book. It is about the life of a dog so you can guess how it ends but it is so well written, you know the author is really feeling what he's writing and can feel the hurt that comes with giving your heart to your pet! (I'm having tears in my eyes just thinking about it)(less)
