I was instantly and I mean INSTANTLY intrigued and pulled into the story with the very first page. I have always been curious about reincarnation and the whole idea of a scent evoking memories of a former life is one of the most original plots that I've read in the past few years. I love stories that involve Egypt on any level and Rose has certainly done her research. I thought this was a wonderful mixture of adventure, mystery, thriller, and love story! The characters were well developed and each one brought something important to the story!
Recommend? ABSOLUTELY! This is probably one of the most enjoyable reads that I've experienced in a long time because the author brought so much to the table with the fascinating countries and cites, the complexity of the story, the intricate weaving of perfume making and how scent can become very deeply rooted in ones memory, and a cast of characters that kept me turning the pages!...more

I loved the whole premise of the book and that the authors wrote it in as correspondence between the characters. This book reminded me so much of 84 Charing Cross Road, which I adored. It makes you long for the day when the only way to communicate with each other was by post. I love computers and email but we just don't write letters to each other like they did in the past. Each entry is so lively and descriptive. I could picture the people, places, and even the smells. It is sad to know that Mary Ann Shaffer didn't live long enough to see how wonderfully successful her novel became but I'm so glad that she was able to get her manuscript to her niece so that she could put the finishing touches on it. It would have been truly sad to think that we may have never experienced such a heartfelt book. If you've been thinking of reading this book, STOP thinking and check it out from the library, borrow it from a friend, or buy it from an INDIE bookstore!! You won't regret one minute that you spend with these wonderful characters!!...more

My own son told me that I needed to read this one immediately and that was well over a year ago!! This is a book that I feel any reluctant reader would devour. I don't think you could go wrong with the audio version either. I have a teacher friend who has read this book out loud to a group of 8th graders and they were enthralled. In fact, one of the students who struggles with reading came looking for me to supply her with Catching Fire...what higher praise can a book receive???...more

About: Jamie and Claire are back in the seventh installment of the Outlander series. They are desperately trying to leave the colonies during the American Revolution, to get back to Scotland so that Jamie can bring his printing press back to America. Of course, nothing goes as planned and the reader gets to meet many historical figures along the journey. Plus we meet up again with Lord Grey.
Descriptive Words: entertaining, war information galore, fast-paced, brutal, heart-thumping.....
Location or characters you met:
* Jamie and Claire: Hands down this is the BEST couple I've ever been introduced to within the pages of a book. I think they're even better than Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth! I love Jamie's masculinity and how he will stop at nothing to keep Claire safe. I am very fond of the way he loves her and lets her know on a daily basis that she makes his life complete. Claire is such a strong woman. She's more than capable of holding her own. I think Gabaldon did a great job of making her resourceful, intelligent, but vulnerable at the same time. She's a character that I've come to love. * Ian : I'm drawn to him for some reason. It could be that he is raw, wild, and dangerous. But tucked deep inside of his heart there is a part of him that yearns to love, be loved, and to have a family to call his own. * America: Even though war is not pretty there is something electric about this time period. Imagine all of the people banding together for freedom. Even though they know there will be losses of life, hardships to endure, and unimaginable terror nothing will stop them from attaining LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS!
What worked for me:
* I actually enjoy Gabaldon's chunksters and even though there are a lot of facts and descriptions, I honestly feel that it only adds to the richness of her stories. * I really liked the chapters that brought us to the current day and featured Brianna and Roger. Those were actually some of my favorite parts. * Learning more about William, Jamie's son. He is very interesting to me and I felt that Lord Grey really loved him and thought of him as his own child. I hope to read a more about this young man in her next book. * The last 200 pages flew and then when I was done I wanted to cry! So much happens and then we're left hanging..until book 8 which probably won't come out for at least two long agonizing years. This will however give me time to read my newly acquired, The Outlandish Companion. I will also use this time to get caught up with Lord Grey.
What didn't work for me:
* At times I will admit that I felt lost. I had to reread a few pages again. This was mostly during the battle scenes or anywhere the troops were introduced. I think a map would've been helpful for this book. * Too much time spent on the British side of the war. * Characters that I wasn't sure if I should pay attention to or not. Will they show up in the next book? Why are they here and what do they have to add to the story????
Recommend? This would be a resounding YES! But I absolutely insist that you must read from the very beginning. Trust me..you need each book because Gabaldon is a master storyteller and weaver. Stories from a few books ago find their way into this one and having that background information is crucial to your overall enjoyment! ...more

I adored Chastity I do believe that almost every time I review one of Kristan's books I swear it's my favorite. Well, guess what? This one really is! I adored Chastity because she wasn't a typical sexy female. She had heart, guts, smarts, and she loved with unabashed loyalty. This one is at the top of my fave list, well that is until I review her next book!
Recommend? Do I really have to answer that question? Of course, because Kristan writes smart, sexy, and totally fun contemporary romance stories. How could you go wrong?
