It would be quite difficult to live during a time of racial comments that were harsh and defamatory and still have to pursue your goals under these circumstances.
It was a pleasure to read a copy from our C Library (C Facility) and will share as one of the reads on the TO READ SHELF.
Atty, Thurgood Marshall argued a case before the Supreme Court, "Equal means getting the same thing at the same time and in the same place."

I feel like I am watching and feeling the main character who is a mom, losing her teen child to kidney failure, and last hope is to go to his father that's in prison to ask for his kidney. But the father never had anything to do with his son and only wants to do the kidney transplant to get lesser time in prison, so it is all about him and his benefit, than his son's. So further along, more turns for the worse happen, for a disadvantage, challenged family and wondering what mommy will do to help her son.

What I did like about the book was to consider foods like gluten foods are not as healthy as one may think because it can be high in sugar and carbs with less fiber to whereas you may eat more to get full. Therefore, Colleen Seward suggests to only eat if you have a gluten allergy. I have been wondering if I do have a gluten-sensitive stomach since I started purchasing gluten free foods since I do deal with bloating and gas; which are similar to my acid reflux symptoms. She also touched on avocado which I love but true about high in calories. Then, she also spoke on wraps which I rarely eat but did perceive as a healthier choice.

Moreover what most diets or books tells us is that to eat smaller portions in which she also added to eat certain foods in caution and not as frequent. She did not state to give them up totally like some books would recommend.
Create the Plate was advised: 50% non starchy vegs, 25% protein, and 25% grains and starches. This way you do not have to necessarily focus on calories to see weight loss.
Cravings is another issue with weight loss or gain. She states cravings come because of lack of nutrients in your diet. I do deal with this issue, and as a woman, I believe some of our cravings are stemmed from menstrual periods and hormones and would have liked if she touched on this topic. I also would have liked if she wrote a bit on "metabolism" since this plays a part to weight loss including eating smaller portions and exercise. I saw this is one way I saw immediate results. However, I have not done this in awhile and need to get back on track. I did like how she stated to ease into exercise by starting out a few minutes to get the body active again.
Seek alternatives, accountability, and seek support. I do not get much help from medical physicians since all they tell me is to lose weight to avoid diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. and may hand pamphlets or brochures but now I will try Kaiser's support group events instead.
It is good to start small with weight loss, accept some weight loss, and celebrations should not be food only. Willpower is the main thing, avoid temptations, know your triggers when around family and events that causes you to eat the wrong foods per se, high in quantity, and/or get you off track for your weight loss goal(s). I think you can still eat it, but less is best. ...more

The chemistry attraction between the two: Jose and Juanita. see how it ends. it lost me midway but ended pretty decent. 3.5 stars.

Finally when you get to the chapter on phase 1-3, then you get into the nitty gritty, also thereafter is recipes to try the phases. I only copied the charts for the phases and percentages of protein, fat, and carbs needed. I am not sure if I am willing to do the phase 1, which is the most restrictive phase. It also recommends two weeks to do phase 1. If you are pre-diabetic or other health related issues, recommended to do phase 1 longer or until you lose the amount of weight desired. Yet it seems like you only eat vegetables, legumes, fruits and proteins. I will see if I can try this for up to 2 weeks and see if I notice a difference in my body.
There are also other people's short testimonies of their trials on the diet.
I plan to try some of the recipes, and actually some seem interesting and worth trying... hope I don't be disappointed.

Also as a vegetarian, recommended to eat more fiber thru whole grains (and suggestions for gluten free); vegetables, fruits, dairy (But I'm lactose). eat less sugar, salt, refined grains and saturated fats. plant proteins also nuts and seeds.
usually pesci-tarians eat no red meat or poultry, eats fish. this is a way of life I wanted or geared to try for the long haul. I did like how she said pin this way of eating you can occasionally eat meats aside from fish but seemed adamant against chicken due to bacteria like salmonella. chicken is one of my favorites but get her point.
there are appendices to help on this journey, recipes, and purpose is to live longer, healthier life...as well as weight loss that I desperately seek. she does recommend 150 minutes per week to 250, which I need to build up again. about 30-50 minutes per 5 days a week. calories 1500-1800. at first I read not to worry about calorie count on diet, then gives such.
I received a copy from library, but hope to try some recipes from it and then purchase my own copy from Amazon.

Shonda Rhimes jokes about "writing apocalypse" when it came to a certain situation in her life like being an introvert and trying to do public speaking. I can relate so greatly since I had an issue with this until I did public speaking in college, then Internet Radio, and other opportunities like acting to finally open up a bit more. Some do not believe I am or was an introvert. However, I am really writing an apocalyptic thriller series.
She touches on topics dear to her like: *mommy scorecard vs. mommy wars *power posing as Wonder Woman to build the courage and esteem needed (esp. public speaking) *feels dreams are for losers *introvert perfectionist who writes strongly but dislikes speaking/speeches *be a doer, not a dreamer (I am both; I have to dream and set goals to do!)
She tells the reader to listen to their spirit, make your mark, embrace failure, and to dream big. To me, these are re-run or regurgitated of meaningful words I've read or heard time and time again. But I am a firm believer that we should make our mark, live out our dreams, while changing the world.
"don't stop dreaming until your dream comes true (page 77)." She suggests to have a 'dream journal' to write your dreams down. I do.
She further speaks on being uninterrupted is the key; I see this as no distractions or limit them because of your busy life.
I like that she admits she is fat--obese--and not all those other things we would love to call ourselves. I had to admit the same thing about 10+ years ago. I do feel uncomfortable in my skin, even though we are to love our body, size, package, and/or shape but I know I used to have a great body and shape as an athlete and very active, always walking places and not relying on car/transportation. I do like hiking and plan to get back to this. True: body is yours. Feel good. But like she said, being big, I do not feel good and feel pain, joints hurts, etc.
She decided to freeze her eggs; I have been asked to do this but there is an expense to this.
FOD=first. only. different. I like this motto and enjoy her "how to get away with murder" but other people loved "scandal" and/or "grey's anatomy" but sadly I could not get into those shows.

It also had beautiful photos of food, fruits, vegetables, and a couple recipes to try. There are two I am willing to try: Black bean burger (have bought them frozen) and muffin (sounds good). I made a copy of them both.
It gave also percentages on the age groups that are vegetarians or become vegetarians; in my age group is 40%; also it gives the options of vegetarians where I am deciphering between pescitarian (fish is a meat you eat but vegetarian since some do not view fish as a meat) and/or flexi-tarian, someone who still eats meat occasionally. It was also suggested to gradually let go of meats, which I already stopped eating pork over 10 years ago (since early 2000) and starting to give up beef (only eat it about 5-10 times a year). Therefore, the meats that may be harder to give up is fish and chicken. Turkey is another substitute I eat occasionally. I have tried the "Fake" meats in the past as well like the book suggested or recommended. Most of them are not very good, especially the bacon strips; prefer the sausage patties. There are other brands that I wrote down from a site and will see if they taste better than the ones I have tried over the past 10-15 years.
I do it for healthier reasons as the book also noted percentage wise.
