Yes, indeed, I plan on reading all of them eventually, so if you have tried Jack Reacher and don't like him, you may proceed to some of my other reviews.
this seventh book in the series about or favorite loner finds Reacher assisting an FBI team in an undercover investigation. This is an "off the books " investigation with Reacher (no one ever calls him Jack--not even himself) going undercover to hopefully rescue a missing FBI agent. She disappeared while working for suspect Zachary Beck, so now Reacher is going to go to work for the same man.
You just know this is going to lead to some real action......
A typical Reacher novel--fast paced; lots of action; deduction and twists and turns. I especially liked the fact that even with the back-up of his FBI 'team', there are still mistakes made when the plan is put in motion. It shows how hard it would be in real life to plan an undercover investigation and not have anything slip.
It is told in the first person--and I personally prefer the third person point of view---but still a good solid Reacher tale. Because of the level of violence, not recommended for under age 18.
Recommended for fans of mysteries; thrillers or action novels. ...more

The setting is a southwestern prison farm. The title is based on a note an assistant warden received advising him "cage five is goin to break". Unfortunately the snitch neglected to say which cage is planning an escape--there is a cage five in each of five sections.
So the guards are trying to pay a little extra attention to 5A/5B/5C etc.plus watch the other prisoners. The tension builds as conflict escalates between guards and prisoners-and between different groups of prisoners.
Some violence---but not excessive or graphic for a prison novel. Fast paced and exciting---not real deep. Just a short quick action novel to pass a few enjoyable hours. OK for older Ya---16 on up.

The book is written in an unusual style---very episodic and not much data. But the feelings experienced by the young narrator are shocking and horrifying. For an unexplained reason, Timmy is confined for some time to the adult ward and his fictitious dairy pulls no punches about the treatment---in this case at least--given to the insane. The crowding; dirt; casual cruelty of some staff; only a few doctors; poor care for almost everything---and more.
Unfortunately this 'fiction' novel probably comes closer to reality in some areas. That thought makes me cringe.
This is not a book to be liked due to the subject matter but it is incredibly well written. The grim images will stay with you.
Not---repeat not--recommended by me for anyone under 18. Despite the photo, this book is definitely not YA,
Very, very highly recommended for adults who want a gripping, moving story.

The book focuses on him both on and off duty--his problems with his family; his relationship with his partner and the various cases he is working on.
I don't want to tell too much but when I read this years ago I found it very well-written and some interesting plot twists.
The story may be a bit dated technically---published in 1970 no computers, cell phones, DNA testing etc etc.But human nature does not change and Barney---while not a likeable character for me--is a well written character.
Out of print of course---imho worth searching for readers who enjoy police stories/psychological mysteries.
