You notice things(important little details) that you may have missed before. Anyway, once again, J.K. Rowling has shown us how amazing of a writer she is. These books just keep getting better and better.
This is Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts. After learning the true meaning of his prophecy, Harry has a lot on his mind. And after catching Draco Malfoy at a suspicious shop, his nerves are on high alert. With a new Potions teacher, Harry is able to take Potions again. Harry is given a book belonging to the "Half-Blood Prince". This guy was a potions whiz kid. He has notes written in the margins of the book that are helping Harry excel at potions class. Not to mention the cool spells written in there that the "Prince" seemed to make up himself.
things are getting interesting this year as Harry is scheduled to take special and private lessons with Dumbledore himself! These lessons weren't how Harry pictured them and they seem to take a very surprising turn....
J.K. Rowling is a brilliant author whose perception of suspense seem to deepen as she continues this series. she manages to incorporate details of past years at Hogwarts into the brand new adventures this year. Rowling doesn't only focus on Harry, but she gives some insight into the lives of his friends and how their issues impact on Harry's life. this book shows how talented Rowling is, managing to go from eleven year old Harry to sixteen year old Harry, and still being able to slip in those minor, but important, details.
this is going to turn out to be a very eventful year for Harry: becoming Quidditch Captain, learning new info on Voldemort, and learning how to Apparate. this just might turn out to be the most amazing year at Hogwarts.....till next year. (less)

Despite warnings from his grandmother, Alex makes up his mind to chase down this killer if it's the last thing he does...literally. apparently, the Tiger, the only name this killer goes by, knows all about Alex and trys, in vain, to stop Alex from reaching Africa at all costs.
Will Alex make it out of Africa alive? or will he die knowing that a ruthless serial killer is on the loose and is going on a rampage? to make matters worse, Tiger's hench"men" are actually pre teen and teenage boys that feel the need to serve a killer because he makes them feel powerful. Alex doesnt want to hurt these boys, but what choice does he have? In Alex's mind, there is no way he can let this killer off the hook just because he employs teenage boys....
Can Alex stop the Tiger without harming the young impressionable boys...or will he do what he needs to do to avenge his dear friend and save thousands of people from the unprovoked wrath of a seemingly unstoppable killer??(less)

you should really only read these when you have read the Demigod trilogy. Riordan's purpose is not to give away information, but to give us extra insight into the lives of our characters. plus, this book gives three never before read adventures of Percy Jackson.
this is sort of like a guide. you could read this and then go to any book in the trilogy, re-read it, and you will probably understand it even more. that's what i am doing. i am re-reading The Titan's Curse at the moment. also, the book gives you pictures of what some of the characters would look like so that when you re-read a book, you'll have a visual image of what the character looks like.
in this book, Riordan has written a few extra adventures of Percy Jackson. he makes a little trip to the Underworld with Annabeth and Thalia to reclaim something of Hades', he helps Charisse fight some monsters(if you have read the Demigod books, you will understand why this is wierd)and get back a stolen chariot, and Percy gets some help from a bronze dragon during Capture the Flag.
again, thank you Rick Riordan for guiding us through these Demigod books and helping us to understand them. as for the authors that don't take the time to help us readers out, shame on you. (less)

They take on the body of those they kill. But He doesn't like to kill. He thinks it's wrong. He doesnt even have a name. He describes his race as monsters and killers because of their natural urge to kill humans. But just like every other doppelganger, He cant resist the urge to "take a human form". After being attacked by the teen, in self defense, He kills the boy and takes his form. But doppelgangers are supposed to stalk their prey and learn sufficient information about their lives before taking their form....He has no idea what He has gotten Himslef into...
Doppelganger keeps you reading with themes that include fear, courage, desire, and love. As the doppelganger takes over the teen's life, He finds Himself dealing with human-like emotions and human-like issues that a doppelganger seems to never come across as its true form. Between the issues of the teen's abusive father, fearful mother, scared sister, and resentful girlfriend, He has no idea how to cope with it all....Not to mention the constant risk of losing the form of the teen and having to move on to the next vulnerable human.
How long will He be able to hold on to the young boy's form??? And most of all, will He be able to live the boy's life without drawing attention to the fact that the real Chris Parker is dead???(less)

I was so into this book that I finished this book in less than a day.
Max and her flock thought that they were going to finally be on vacation....i guess they had to think again. this time (for the second time) they have to save the world....from global warming. Max and the kids are sent on a mission to Antarctica to work with scientists on the approach to stop gas pollution.
This new mission has its pros and cons. Such as, Max having to leave her newly found mother to go to Antarctica and being stuck in freezing cold weather on a raggedy old ship. Pros?.....helping stop global warming could be a good one.
This new book in the series is sensational with twists and turns that will not make you want to put the book down! you'll say that you will stop at the next chapter but you wont, and before you know it, you will be done with the book. Max is actually looking forward to this whole saving the world mission, but how excited can she be after finding out that some part machine-looking thing wants to auction her and the flock off to the highest bidder??
I recommend this book to anyone that loves suspense and action.(less)

His style of writing keeps you turning the page until, before you know it, you've finished the book. In this book, Patterson digs deeper into the life of Detective Michael Bennett of NYPD Homicide. As a Homicide detective and a single father of ten adopted children, Detective Bennett certainly has a lot on his plate.
This specific novel is centered around a serial killer that goes by the name of "The Teacher". But of course, the Teacher is no ordinary serial killer. He is after specific people, to the point where the NYPD can't keep up. After a store clerk and a club manager are killed by the same man, detective Bennett is immediately put on the case.
How do you stop a man hell-bent on getting revenge on people that have wronged him? Detective Bennett is smart, but the Teacher is very clever. He uses a different disguise each time he kills, but by placing pieces together, Bennett narrows it down to the only man it could be. The problem is...can Detective Bennett catch the Teacher before he pulls off his last kill?? (less)

He owes his loyalty to the Varden as they continue their fight against the Empire. The Varden are in desperate need of help and Eragon is the only active Dragon Rider alive.
Eragon has to make some tough decisions, but what else is new? Does he help Roran rescue his wife? Does he stick with the Varden and make an effort to defeat the Empire? Friendship, love, hate, and revenge are just some of the themes that Rick Riordan manages to pack into this book. Riordan focuses on the main character while incorporating the lives of minor characters into the main character's life. everyone's "drama" connects in some way which, in turn, adds to the general drama/conflict of the story. Speaking of conflict....the goddess Artemis has been captured and the heroes have to go save her. No problem huh? Wrong. there are a few "catches". They have until the winter solstice and....there might be this great ancient monster waiting to kill them upon arrival.
Rick Riordan is an amazing writer who can pull off mixing action and drama and fantasy with teenage hormones and the power of friendship. the combination of the two gives you a great book worth reading
i would recommend this book to anyone who had already read the first two books and to anyone who loves Greek Mythology. this book is a great way to learn more about Greek Mythology and still have fun while reading. (less)

Riordan's style of writing is revealing half of a mystery earlier on in the book and then completing the mystery nearer to the end by tying it into a high intense situation. Riordan continues mysteries and actions throughout the series. Riordan does not completely discard past situiations as the series goes on, which, by not completely completing mysteries from previous books, makes the reader WANT to read on. mysteries from book 1 are finally completed in this book 4 of the series. not many writers are able to continuously stumulate characters in a five book series. Riordan has acheived this with Percy JAckson and the Olympians.
in book 4, Percy and friends are coming closer to the rise of the Titan lord, Kronos. after Luke turned over to the dark side, Percy and his friends have to find a way to defend the camp. BUt they must also make an attempt to put Kronos' plan on hold. They have to find a way to stop him before he rises to power and completely destroys the gods on Olympus. but as usual, there is a twist. Luke and Kronos' army are inside a mega-maze (the Labyrinth) that stretches all throughout America. Percy and his friends must travel into the Labyrinth and stop Luke, but what quest is complete without monsters on every corner?????(less)

That mind might not always be used in the most righteous of ways, but nonetheless, he is a genius. Many have tried to psycho-analyze Artemis and they have all failed. It is said that Artemis Fowl is a "child prodigy". This book goes into great detail about the first of Artemis' many endeavors.
Artemis Fowl is looking for a Book. And its not a library book either. This special Book contains supernatural secrets and codes. This is the fairy Book and Artemis Fowl wants it. Why he wants it is beyond the fairy that he tricked into giving him the Book. What can a human do with a fairy's Book? Some how, some way, Artemis Fowl is going to restore his family's wealth, but how is he going to do it? Anything to do with fairy gold..........?????(less)

It went from a romantic dinner between the President and his wife to a state funeral for Caroline Hopkins. Celebritiees, comedians, actors, and even singers are attending the funeral. But the fact is, the funeral for Caroline Hopkins isnt even the worse part of the book. things really turn ugly when a man under the alias of "Jack" and his crew hi-jack the funeral. And naturally these hi-jackers are after ransom money, but since their hostages are well known actors, comedians, and even the mayor, they are looking for millions of dollars in ransom money.
Detective Alex Cross is going through a pretty tough time right about now: It's Christmas, he has ten adopted children to take care of, and his wife is dying from cancer. Now he's beent old that Caroline Hopkins' funeral has just been hi-jacked. Things start going downhill as jack starts killing people to speed up the process.
The crazy thing is, Jack isnt even the mastermind behind the whole thing. It;s someone named.....The Neat Man....(less)

With two years of fairy memories erased from his mind, Artemis Fowl is back to his criminal mastermind self. This time he has his eyes set on a painting that sits in a very secure German bank vault. But this theft is only the first of many adventures that Artemis takes in the Opal Deception. With trolls, gunfire, and a plot to expose the fairy world, Eoin Colfer keeps this book intriguing and suspenseful. You will have to make your self stop reading. Eoin Colfer seems to have a knack for adding one more piece of the puzzle in every chapter, enticing you to continue on. In his latest novel in the Artemis Fowl series, Opal Koboi is back-out of her self induced coma-ready to enact her revenge on all those that foiled her evil scheme one year ago. Those on her hit list include Commander Julius Root, Captain Holly Short, Butler, and none other than Artemis Fowl. But without his knowledge of the fairy world, will Artemis be able to save the entire underground world from a collision with the humans? Some would say that Eoin Colfer is a very considerate author. I definitely would. You see, I’m sure there are people who’ve read Opal Deception without reading the first three books, so they have no idea what all this “fairy” stuff is about. Without making it as obvious as coming right out with it, Colfer “slips” the information in there. He finds a way to incorporate information from previous books into the character’s dialogue, so that the readers get at least a glimpse into Artemis’ past adventures. In Opal Deception, Holly Short, in a time of crisis, tries to jog Artemis’ lost memory to help them out of a sticky situation. Those memories include his father’s rescue and the cube of fairy technology that Artemis himself created. Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception is not without its share of themes. A major theme in this novel would have to be family. Now that Artemis Senior is back and the Fowl family is together again, Artemis the Second is torn. After losing his memory, Artemis resorted back to his life of criminal activity, but in the back of his mind, there’s this nagging feeling that he should be with his family now, being a normal teenager. On the other hand, how normal can Artemis’ life be? It could be argued that after the past two years, Artemis Fowl’s life can never be the way it once was. While family is a very important theme, friendship is the basis of the Opal Deception. Every thing in this book revolves around friendships. Artemis doesn’t even remember Holly, but she claimed to be his friend and he felt an obligation to help her when she was in trouble. Their friendship was so strong that even when he lost his memory, he knew he had to help her. Some people think that they don’t need any friends, but everyone does. Friends are there when no one else is. Aside from the heartfelt themes of family and friendship, the Opal Deception offers intrigue, suspense, drama, and adventure. Eoin Colfer’s style of adding piece by piece as the book goes along, traps the readers as it hooks on to your own intellect. I would even recommend reading the whole series, start to finish. Each chapter brings insight into previous chapters, giving you that “Oh Yeah” realization as you read on. If you love fantasy, pick up a copy of this action packed novel. Amidst the action, this book speaks on how you don’t have to get a reward for good deeds and being a good friend.
