Even if you aren't particularly fond of cuisine (which I'm not) the book is still a deep and fulfilling read (without being difficult to navigate).
This is my favorite kind of writing. Not too overly descriptive and subtly symbolic, the writing flows and effectively paints a picture of the various countries and scenes. She hits every sense, including taste and smell; you can practically feel the creams and spices as she experiences them. She also includes recipes that will bring the moment to you in real life. (I am not that fancy of a chef, so I think the recipes are a bit challenging.)
I was a bit disappointed in the endin (because real life doesn't end like a Hollywood movie), but the whole book was so well-written that I forgive it. A truly enjoyable read. I hope she writes a sequel because I feel like I know her and the characters in it.
I wish the author would update her site. All of the calendar appearances are from 2008. Hopefully she is working on her next book....more
