Evie has spent her summer in a clinic for kids who are troubled and on their last chance. Her grandmother kidnapped her when she was a child and teach her about the tarot and other such things that she would need to know when the Apocalypse happened. Now a teenager Evie has been seeing things, dark things. Her mother sent her to the clinic to get her grandmothers teachings out of her head.
Jack is a Cajan boy from the wrong side of the tracks with a mile long wrap sheet. In the week leading up to the crazy new world Jack and Evie have a very negative relationship toward one another. When the Solar flairs end up turning most of the worlds population and all the plants into dust while drying up most bodies of water everyone must fend for themselves.
Together Jack and Evie set off on a trek to find Evie's grandmother, but Evie isn't telling Jack everything. Evie has powers unlike any other. Many kids left alive do. They are the Arcana (the tarot) and only Evie's grandmother knows why they have these powers.
LOVED IT! Listened to the audio of this and I have to say that it was fantastic! I thought Evie was a whiny brat, but after seeing what she can do I'm impressed. Can't wait for book 2.(less)

It's the year 2044 and the real world is horrible. Eveyone escapes to the Oasis. The Oasis is the online virtual reality world where you can be anything (as an avatar), you can see anything, you can visit anywhere (as long as you have enough money). In the Oasis you can grow up on Sesame Street interacting with Big Bird, Oscar and all the rest of the Muppet's. You can visit the world of Zork and play the game. You can go to a virtual high school and never have to interact with a real person if you don't want to.
The Oasis was created by James Halliday. Halliday was the ultimate creator of game and he grew up in the 80's and loved everything 80's. When he died he had no heirs to leave his vast fortune to so he created one final game. He hid an Easter Egg in the Oasis. To get to the Easter Egg you would have to find 3 keys that would unlock 3 gates and he only gave one clue as to where the first key was. Five years after his death nobody had even found the first key, that is until Wade Watts, a poor boy from the stacks, figures out that the first key is on the only planet in the Oasis that he can go to...School.
Wade is the first person to get his name on the board and find the first key and gate, but soon there will be more. As the game progresses Wade has to be extremely careful. there is a company who wants to control the Oasis and has players of their own working toward getting that Egg and they wont let anything stand in their way.
Set in the future this book is all about the 80's, pop culture & gaming! I have to say that I'm in love with this book. If you are a gamer of any type, if you loved the 80's or just grew up in them, or if you love a good futuristic book then pick this one up! I started listening to the audio but two dics in I had to find the actual book because I got tired of having to stop it whenever I had to get out of the car. This is one you don't want to miss.(less)

Its name is Palmares Três. The people elect a Summer King (who has no real power), but at the end of his one year in service he is sacrificed by the Queen. With his final breath the Summer King chooses the new Queen. This is only one of Palmares Três’ traditions.
June Costa is the best artist in Palmares Três, or at least that’s what she tells herself. She was born into the upper tiers of the pyramid. Her step-mother is an Auntie (one of the women who run the city). Together with her best friend Gil, June creates art that is meant to help her favorite candidate, Enki, be elected as the new Summer King. Soon the Summer King is chosen and that one choice causes June’s life to change in ways she never imagined.
This is very different then most dystopian futuristic books I have read. I really didn’t know what to expect with this book at first. I received an ebook version of this book from www.netgalley.com and I have to say it was fantastic! I kept trying to imagine her tree whenever I had to put the book down. If you like futuristic novels then you should add this to your list.(less)

I read this with netgalley.com and I have to say that this was a great idea...bringing the two worlds together would be a fantastic way to end both series. I hope that Ally Carter brings even more of the characters together. (less)

Her mother on the other hand forgot that it was her birthday. Having been told never to open anything that her father has sent her over the past decade she is curious to see what he wants to say. His email leads her to a webpage with 12 pictures of her with her father that she has never seen. So one by one she clicks on them and sends them to be printed at Walgreen's. This one action is the start of a massive world wide problem! Later in the day when she logs into the game called Pandora's Box everything is unleashed. The phone lines go down, the electricity goes off, her cell phone wont work anymore, but a weird message is on her laptop where Pandora's Box is still open.
"You've reached the point of no return. Welcome to the real Pandora's Box.
Total annihilation in 10, 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 days."
In search of answers she walks to the new neighbors house to see if the same thing is happening there. Who does she find living next door? None other then the two hottest guys in her school that just moved to town: Eli & Theo. Their parents got married and neither one is too happy about having the other for a brother. With their help Pandora must use the game and track down the clues in order to save the world, that is if she can get out of the hands of the government alphabet in her house. With the world breaking down around them these three teens are the worlds only hope of surviving.
So awesome!!!! Love this book. The cover pulled me in, but the story kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. The whole love triangle thing could have been handled a little bit differently, but I loved it all the same. Pandora really was an interesting character. I think it would be great to see what happens after the book ends, but I think it ended perfectly well to be a stand alone book as well. If you are looking for a book that will keep you reading look no further!!!(less)

She doesn't remember wearing the clothes she is wearing, or when she got hips and a chest, and she really has no idea how her house has turned into a dilapidated mess, but when her twin brother shows up looking, and acting, like an older-monster version of himself Fiona flees. Her town has turned into something she dosen't understand. There are no plants, no animals, the few people she sees treat her like she is a threat until a child drags her into the sewers to save her life from the monsters only to have Fiona risk her life going up against the militia to save another boy. But being caught by the militia turns out to be the best thing to happen to her. She is reunited with someone from her past. Maybe he can give her some answers, if only he would stop treating her like some kind of monster...
Okay seriously, How great is this book! I love the whole retold fairy tale and that's why I requested this with netgaley.com so I could read the ebook, but when I started reading it I realized that this is a futuristic horror story with a romance tumbled in just right and the whole sleeping beauty thing is not whats important at all. The cover of this book kind of turned me away at first, but when I heard what it was about I decided I wanted to give it a chance. I'm so glad I did. This is one of the best books I've read in a while. The mystery of the book is what I love the most about it. The author gives the reader the info they need little by little so the suspense keeps building until you finally realize what is happening. I loved this book and I look forward to reading more by this author in the future. Everyone needs to read this one!(less)
