It was like one of those early 1980's sitcoms that had jumped the shark seasons ago, and yet brought everyone back for the finale, regardless of why. Hours and hours of people obviously doing their final bow, and what do the readers get? NOTHING.
I really didn't care who Sookie wound up with, I just wanted it to be a good ending and a nice story, and perhaps a little redemption from the last few Deus Ex Cluviel Dor books. Unfortunately, that was not to be. Even the very ending was like the author just ran out of paper, and realized she had to end it in two paragraphs. It would have been better had she just left it up to the readers' imaginations, because they (even the Eric -obsessed ones) could have come up with better ideas than this. And then there were the parts of the "story" itself, that were so obviously written begrudgingly, with no love for any of the characters, but just a checklist of things that had to be done:
(view spoiler)[ Like you couldn't seen the lame sex scene with Sam coming from a bikini-clad mile away. Like this insane parade of people all got together to "get Sookie" so they would be killed (nice easy way to get rid of people without having to actually deal with them. When in doubt, they die no matter what their injuries. It would have been easier and more believable to have a secret "I hate Sookie" villans' secret lair for them to figure it out together.) Like when in doubt, injure Sookie, but never life threatening, and never for more than a day or two, and then miraculously heal her. Like the add-a-Supe (this time, a devil) when we needed a reason for plot progression that made no sense. Like the additional "child" of Eric's appearing out of nowhere, just so people can fantasize that Bill may have someone to live Happliy Ever After with. Like the parade of ex-suitors, all happy and content, but still loving Sookie, to make a very lame attempt at throwing some suitor smoke in front of the oh-so-obvious ending. Like not letting Eric just GO, but making him try to manipulate Sam in some lame way that still made no sense. (I would have been fine with Eric leaving, or better yet, DYING, but the passive third party "talk about him, but don't actually let him do anything in character" stuff was just pitiful and weak in an otherwise interesting and strong character.) Like the attempt at a Harry Potter-esque epilogue, but without any resolution in the chapters before to make it satisfying.
I was waiting for a real bloodbath. Partway through, I was HOPING for a real bloodbath, with actual main character deaths -perhaps even Saint Sookie's as a noble sacrifice. Nope, it was just filler. It was Twilight-esque. It was a waste of my time, and an insult to the poor trees that died for the printing of this pile of tripe. (hide spoiler)]
In the end, I think it would have been better to have blown Bon Temps off the map, instead of this.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more
