This is the first book that I have read by Paul Levine, but it's not my first book by him. This books is theHero: Steve Solomon Heroine: Victoria Lord
This is the first book that I have read by Paul Levine, but it's not my first book by him. This books is the fourth book in the series. I have his Solomon vs Lord book - the first book in the series. I've had that book since December 2010. Hopefully, I'll read it sometime this year.
Steve and Victoria aren't just lawyers, they are partners and girlfriend and boyfriend as well. Steve likes to break the rules and Victoria likes to follow the rules. By what Carl Hiassen said on the front cover about Paul writing funny and wickedly accurate courtroom drama, I thought that this book would have a Franklin and Bash feel to it, but it didn't really have that feeling. Franklin and Bash are some crazy lawyers and they do some crazy things in the courtroom. Steve's a little crazy as well. In a back story, it shows how crazy he is. During a DUI case, he ordered the jury a pizza and a six pack of beer. I found that funny and I was cracking up. That stunt has gotten him in trouble.
As I have said, Steve was the one that likes to break the rules and Victoria liked following them. They would get some weird clients. They've represented a guy who wanted to sue his parents for being ugly and passing on the ugly genes. That had me cracking up as well. What judge in his or her right mind would let a circus like that come to their court. If I was the judge, I would kick that mess out of my courtroom. People don't have any control on how they look and lawyers shouldn't take on stupid cases like this.
Victoria wasn't Steve's only housemate - he was also taking care of his drug addict sister's twelve year old son Bobby. The woman had put her child in a dog's cage. Bobby has been through a lot with his mother. Thank goodness he had his uncle there for him. The only friends the boy really had was two dolphins - Spunky and Misty, who he would communicate with in a dolphin language he created. He was picked on at school and on his baseball team. He was anagrammatic and that's why one of the boys at school and on his baseball team didn't like him. He anagrammed the boy's name and had people laughing at him. The boy was messing with girls and in his own way, Bobby took off from them and he didn't mean to embarrassed the boy, but he did.
In this book, a crime happens that has something to do with Spunky and Misty and Victoria takes on the case as the prosecutor. She wanted to stepped out of Steve's shadow, because one day she wanted to stand on her own. In their partnership - Steve is the head lawyer and she's the one that would really get the evidence.
I've given this story two stars, because it was missing something. As I have stated before, I haven't read the first book to this series and I don't know how they compare, but this book was missing something. The funny wickedly courtroom drama wasn't there. I didn't see why Victoria and Steve had to go up against one another. They could have worked on the same team and gotten the same results. To be honest, they basically did work on the same team outside of the courtroom. I wished the book didn't have all the profanity it did. I don't like seeing cuss words in a story. Another thing, I wasn't feeling Steve and Victoria's coupling in this book. Maybe Solomon vs Lord make me see their relationship in a different light.
This book made me laugh, but it wasn't a thorough laugh out loud book. ...more

This book is the first book that I have read by her. I haven't read the whole book, meaning, I have skipped parts of the book. I don't read same sex story lines and in this book, Mrs. James have a character - Collin, who is a homosexual. He's one of the heroine - Cameron's, best friends. She has two. Him and Amy. Don't get me wrong, I think that Collin was a good friend to Cameron and I didn't mind reading his parts with her, as long as they weren't talking about his relationship with a man.
The hero in this book is Jack Pallas. A FBI agent. He's a tortured hero-inside and out. Why did I say that? Because, he has been scarred inside and outside. I will explain what I mean. For two years, he was undercover working for a crime lord - Robert Martino and his cover was blown and in the process he had to endure some punishment. The punishment left outside scars to his body.
Now as for the inner scars, they came from the heroine - Cameron. After his cover was blown, he had to work with her. She's a U.S. Attorney. They were determined to bring down Robert, but someone blocked that action and made Cameron look like the bad guy to Jack and he didn't like her, because of what she had done and that was tell him that they weren't going to do Robert anything. He was going to walk.
The reason why the news scarred Jack inside is because he secretly had developed feelings for Cameron and she hurt him. Not only by holding him back from getting the biggest crime lord in Chicago, but also, because he could no longer see himself with Cameron. There was no way he could be with her, after this.
I want to make it clear that we don't see how Jack and Cameron felt about each other during this time, because the story takes place three years later. We do find out later on in the book that feelings were there, at least on Jack's part.
Okay, as I have said before, the previous had taken place three years earlier. Well, the story takes place three years later and Jack and Cameron are reunited, because Cameron is a witness to a murder. While her house was being renovated, she decided to go stay at a hotel in the same city. She has gotten stuck in a room next to a couple that were engaging in sexual activities that took place for hours. Cameron listened to the man and woman for hours. She's good, because I would have been called and reported them.
Cameron witnessed a murder, but she didn't see who killed the woman. Come to find out the man that was with the woman, who happened to be a call girl was the senator. Did he kill his mistress or was it someone else?
Jack and his partner Wilkins were over this case. This is how Jack and Cameron reunited. Tension was present. Jack was still mad at Cameron. Three years apart, didn't stop him from feeling the pain that she has caused him. He was transfered after Robert's case was closed, because he publicly displayed his anger towards Cameron on national TV. Now, out of all the people that could find themselves in trouble and needs his help, it's her. Well, they needed her help too.
And the race goes on to find the killer..............
I like to read about FBI heroes and Jack was a good guy, but I needed more.
I liked his partner Wilkins. He was the new guy - the rookie, but yet very likable. He was lively. I wish we had seen more of him. He's just the kind of partner that Jack needed. He kept Jack straight. He called it like he seen it and he wasn't missing any alphabets, when he tells Jack what Jack wants to deny, when it comes to Cameron.
Sometimes, people don't like honest people around them, but they are needed.
There is something about the killer that was revealed that I didn't like, but I will not say in this review.
As I have said before, Mrs. James is new to me. I'll have to check out her other books.

My first sport romance book. I'm giving the story three stars, because I like the secondary story. The secondary hero, Sloan was more interested to me than the main hero Brek.
Both men are baseball players. Brek is the captain of the team. The pitcher. He was engaged to the main heroine - Taylor, but she broke his heart, when she left him at the altar on their wedding day. She was dealing with an issue that she put before the man that she claimed to love. Three years later, she hears that he's engaged again and she had to come back home and congradulate him. So, she taught.
How can a woman really congradulate a man in regards to him marrying another woman, when she's still in love with him?
Of course, something happens, where Brek and the woman he suppose to get married to, don't get a chance to go down that route. Of course, he didn't love her and she was only there to try to heal his broken heart.
Moving along. Sloan is the new guy. He thought that he can hook up with Taylor. He's blind to the fact that Taylor use to be Brek's fiancee.
Taylor is a thrill seeker. She likes to go skiing, etc. Doing adventurous things. Sloan had gone to her company to sign up for an adventure, only because he wanted to be get to know Taylor, but he wind crossing paths with her sister Eve. He found her to be uptight. She wasn't like her sister. She wasn't adventurous.
These two started off having a hate/attraction relationship that later turned into something real, after Sloan gotten over himself. He's a player. He's use to have women throw themselves at him and being with different women. He has a three tattoo on his body, in a certain spot.
He only gives a woman three chances and then she's history and he's moving to the next woman. He doesn't want a commitment. So, he thought.
The more he tried to dislike Eve, the more he fell hard for her.
Their little story was on the cute side.
I have Kate's new book. Sliding Home. I will give that book a try....more

I loved the**spoiler alert** I'm giving this book 5 stars, because of the secondary characters: Sam and Alyssa. These two have captured my attention. I loved the tension between these two. Sam had the hots for Alyssa for very long time. She plagued this sexy Texan mind for years and he had to have her. Of course, his method of getting the girl was to go the school boy's route. He would nag at her. Do things to get her upset. Call her names that he knew she didn't like. That was his way of saying, I like you woman! See me - your lion, roar! Okay, Sam wasn't Alyssa's lion just yet, but he was showing how beauty - sexy he was. Alyssa wasn't innocent, she wanted the sexy Texan lion to see that she was indeed a lioness. One that had eyes for the roaring lion.
I love the way that Sam teased Alyssa. Oh, the park scene was cute. Sam was never shy about what he wanted from Alyssa. One thing he wanted was to sleep with her, but another thing he wanted from her was a relationship. He wanted to be able to sit down with her and talk. Which, those two would always fight. Say something to make the other mad.
Sam was rude to Alyssa and she was to him as well. These two came together in this book and set the pages on fire. Sam is a chocoholic. Alyssa knew that he ate Peanut M&M's, but she found out just how much of a chocolate lover he was that night via chocolate syrup. Thanks to her, Sam's love for chocolate raised 10 times higher.
What more can I say about these two? They belong together....more

A buddy of mine knows that I am a big fan of Dave Malkoff and that I think that he and Sophia would make a cute couple. In my circle. I was the only one seeing Sophia and Dave as a couple. My buddies were seeing Sophia and Decker. I honestly can't see Sophia with Decker. He doesn't love her. Yet, everyone sees things differently.
The book will get three stars. Dave and Sophia is the only reason why I am giving 5 stars. The rating doesn't have anything to do with the book per say....more

I have actual**spoiler alert** Gone Too Far was the first book that I have read by Suzanne Brockmann. At first the book wasn't catching my attention. I have actually put the book to the side for weeks. One day, I have picked it back up and starting reading it again. When, I have came to the knowledge that the woman that Sam was interested in was black. The book has caught my attention and kept it. The part where I have stopped reading the book was after Mr. Gaines have came to school and picked up Noah and Sam from school. So, of course I didn't know that this book was an interracial book. I have never read Suzanne before, never even been to her site.
I have to say that I was happy that Sam and Alyssa gotten HEA in this book. I was also happy to see that Sam had a black best friend, who happen to be his cousin and that they looked alike. You don't find too many books, where their is a interracial hero best friend pairing.
The book is a good read. I have fell in love with Sam. ...more
