Ice Storm is my favorite book from this series. It’s the third book that I have read from this series. Fire and Ice, Reno’s book was my first. I like Reno, but Killian has him beat.
Anne Stuart has taken me on a tension filled roller coaster ride in this book and I love it. I’m a tension fan and Mrs. Stuart has fed me a delicious tension meal. There’s plenty of love filled tension between Killian and Isobel in this book.
What would you do if you’ve found out that the man you are in love has been trying to kill you? You kill him!
Madame Lambert is the head of The Committee. She’s the only woman in the organization. At least to my knowledge, she is. She’s a dangerous bad girl that’s on the good side. She lives to take down bad guys.
Madame Lambert wasn’t always in The Committee or even known as Isobel Lambert.
Prior to joining The Committee 18 years ago, Madame Lambert was known as Mary Isobel Curwen. At 19 years old, she left the states to go to England, to start a new life. Her mother was dead and her father had a new family and she didn’t feel that she belonged with them.
One night, while wandering the streets late at night, Mary was attacked by 7 guys, who planned on taking turns raping her and eventually kill her, but their plan didn’t have time to developed, because she was saved by a hero named Killian. Due to what had happened to her and he was a man, Killian softly worked his way up her trust ladder that night, gaining her trust and basically from there, they became friends and didn’t depart from one another, until the night that Mary killed Killian.
Mary fell in love with Killian and he fell in love with her. He was the first to admit that he has fallen in love with her. He did it twice. The first time he admitted he was in love with her, was when they were discussing his fake girlfriend and he told her that he has fallen in love with someone else. This reference can be found of page 91. The second time that he has told her that he was in love with her, was when he told her that she was in love with him and he was in love with her in his car. Yes, he told her this, prior to having sex with her in his car. But why tell her that? The confession could have been omitted. Killian didn’t have to proclaim that he was in love with Mary, to have sex with her. He knew that she was in love with him and that she would have freely had sex with him, without him telling her that he was in love with him. I know people may disagree with me, but I believe the confessions were real. Killian didn’t plan on falling in love with the naïve young woman he sought to use for his cover, but he did. That’s the reason why I believe he drugged her as well. That was his way of protecting her from the danger he was mixed up in.
If Killian weren’t in love with Mary, he wouldn’t have saved her life again from dangerous men. Love made Killian go after Mary the night she shot him and kill those men that hurt her and take her to Dr. Stephan to repair her damage and leave her with Stephan. Killian could have easily got Isobel back, after her recovery from surgery. Better yet, he could have had the Stephan tell him everything that he needed to know about carrying for a person that had plastic surgery and instead of leaving Mary with Stephan, he could have taken her with him. He could have taken her to a hide away place and let her wake up to finding out that she didn’t kill him after all. But, instead of doing that, he let her go. He knew that one day they were going to reunite. He probably has been so close to her on many occasions and she didn’t even know.
Killian was the only man that Mary was in love with. That’s why he haunted her for 18 years. That’s why it was so easy for her to recognize a disguised man bka Serafin, as being the man that she killed 18 years ago.
I loved the denial tension between the two of them. Mary knew Serafin was Killian - disguised or not. And Killian knew the woman that came to get him was no other than Mary. Yes, he had the upper hand, because he knew about her plastic surgery, but, I believe even if Killian blacked out from Mary’s shot and didn’t get to her in time and somehow she managed to get away and had plastic surgery – he still would have recognized her after 18 years. He was her first love and she was his. They weren’t going to forget one another.
Killian believed that sex made a woman possessive. Well, Mary’s shot made him obsessive. The man’s feeling for Mary was strong. She had captured his heart. He kept tabs on this woman. He knew her every move for 18 years.
The boat’s love scene was hot and intense. The hybrid best friends/nemesis turn lovers told each other, “I’m in love with you”, without saying the words. The silence words were loud. There was a reason for the following actions:
1. Killian locking the door 2. Killian wanted to see if Isobel liked violence 3. The lights going off
The locked door = Killian telling Isobel, “You’re mine and I’m not letting you go.” Violence = Killian asking Isobel to forgive him for hurting her. Lights out = Burying the past
Killian and Isobel had to face the reality that they were in love with one another. They knew for a very long time that they were in love with one another, but they had to face it head on. The huge question mark above their head constantly asked them, Why did I do this (??????) and the answer was always because I’m in love with you.
Killian could have killed Isobel 18 years ago. But, he didn’t. Why? Because he was in love with her. Isobel could have killed Killian, when she had that knife to his throat, but she didn’t. Why? Because she’s in love with him. When she shot him 18 years ago and gone over to his body, she could have shot him again, to make sure that he was dead. But, she didn’t. Why? Because she was in love with him.
Killian is good at getting what he wants and that’s Isobel. It was no accident that Isobel was the one that had gone to get him to bring him back to The Committee. In my opinion, Killian knew that she was coming to get him. How can he not know, when he knew so much about the so-called secret Committee? He wanted that reunion. He lived for that reunion. That’s why I also believe he freely let Isobel and Peter capture him to bring him to the safe house - a house that he knew well too, after all he’d escape from it. He just wanted to spend time with Isobel again in closed quarters.
What a body Killian had. Not only was he tortured inside he has been tortured outside as well and his body is a living proof of that. I see his scarred body as telling a story and that story is love hurts. I believe that Isobel has given Killian his first scar. Why? Because, she wasn’t always drugged, when they had sex. Surely, she would have seen him fully naked more than once. Plus, she was surprised to see all the scars on his body. She even wanted to see the one that her shot had made on him.
Although Killian is scarred, he’s still sexy. Love hurts are the right words to say in Killian’s case. Killian is one of the good guys and I know that he has put himself on the line for a lot of people, but one person he had in mind as well and that’s Isobel. He was determined to reunite with her. He was determined to live for her.
Isobel may have been a robot, but she couldn’t hide from Killian. He knew her like a book. She kept trying to make herself believe that she wanted to kill Killian. What she really wanted was him and alive. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest, when she thought he was dead.
Their ending was sweet, but it left me wanting more. I could be wrong, but I don’t recall reading about them in Reno’s book, Fire and Ice. I know that they have gotten married. I wonder how many children they have.
I know I have said a lot. I want to end my review by saying that Mahmoud was Killian and Isobel’s roller coaster relationship. He didn’t have to be in the story. He was there for a reason, to show just what Killian and Isobel were going through. He was their trial. Their test they had to past.
I recommend this book to Anne Stuart fans. Not only her fans, but to people like myself, who loves to read good tension....more
Recommendation: To anyone that is a fan of Anne Stuart and haven't read her Ice Series yet. Anyone that love to read about dangerous bad boys and to anyone that loves the theme, older man.younger woman.
This is the second book that I have read by Mrs. Anne Stuart. I love her writing style. Black Ice is actually the first book in the Ice Series and Fire and Ice is the last book. I have read Fire and Ice first and then this book. I prefer Fire and Ice over this book.
I don't usually like to bring up errors in books, because as a writer myself, I know that errors can be missed in stories.I just want to let anyone that reads my review and is thinking about reading this book know that there is an age error in regards to the hero. I could be wrong, but I strongly believe that Mrs. Anne intended for Bastien to be 34 years old and not 32 years old. Why?, because 34 years old stands tall in the book, although it's stated that he's 32 years old. You first learn that he's 34 years old and then 32 years old and then back to 34 years old. Unless, my eyes have read wrong that's the error I have seen in the book. I am not afraid to stand corrected.
Bastien is stated as being 10 years older than Chloe, but that's not right. He's 11 years older than she is, because she's 23 years old and if he was 32 years old, he would be nine years older than she was, unless Mrs. Anne was looking at a up coming birthday for Chloe - like a silent month.
Chloe is a translator. She lives in Paris with her best friend Syvlia, who also is a translator. One day, Sylvia demanded Chloe to take a translating job for her, because she wanted to go spend time with her much older boyfriend, who happened to be in his late 60's. She wanted Chloe to her without being her. She packed things that belong to her for Chloe to wear. Chloe could have used the money. The job required her to be able to translate English and French for business men. Little did Chloe know that these men were bad men. Sylvia was clueless to this fact as well.
When Chloe gets to her destination, at first her service was being turned around, but that changed, but not without distrust. The people at her destination were people that didn't trust anyone and that include their partners. They were basically enemies working together. This is where Chloe meets Bastien.
Bastien is a good observer, he quickly picked up on Chloe's pretend to be dumb to any other languages besides English and French. She's was lucky, he was the only bad guy that did so.
I know that Bastien was a bad guy. A dangerous bad guy - one that was looking forward to dying. He had the "I don't care if I live or die" attitude. He no longer wanted to do what he was doing with the present role he was in as well as work for the Committee anymore. He was working uncover as a ruthless person, although he could kill without blinking his eyes. The people he was around were bad people too, but he wasn't part of their team. He was a part of The Committee. A group of bad people that likes to get rid of other bad people, to save innocent lives. Why do I call the Committee bad people? Well, the title of assassin wouldn't be part of their status, if they weren't.
I hated that Bastien was a womanizer. I know he was playing a role, but the line wasn't invisible.Bastien walked this road a long time. He started young. I hated that in order for him to get information from women, he used sex. Plus, he took the sex to another level. I will not say when, but it's in the book. I don't want to spoil that part, but I didn't like it.
Chloe was naive. She was asking to be killed. Lol, okay, maybe she wasn't asking to be killed, but she did k now that she was in the midst of wolves and she was their special meal. Why put gas on the wood and light a match. Never try to be sassy in the midst of men that you know are bad men.All I'm going to say is that questions aren't important!
She clinched to Bastien. I know that others may not see this, but she had sex on her mind.
Okay, let me end this long review. The book is a good fast read....more
