Although you had a rocky start, detailing your distasteful downward spiral into dissolution and bitching about the industry, you quickly bounced back to redemption by imbuing the depressing end of your marriage with some crazy stories that are so insane they just have to be absolutely true. I actually have had this book on my to-read list for years, after first encountering him on his first travel-the-world-and-eat show and, of course, falling in love. So, after rediscovering his No Reservations show on the Travel channel (hey, I just got cable recently!), I went and finally got this book to begin my first foray into his world of books. This book reads like a collection of short stories, which are all based on one topic -his experiences getting into and staying in the restaurant industry. From his lurid depictions of shady business practices to his hilarious character sketches of people who have shaped who he is today, all his stories are enjoyable and, in different ways both very unhelpful and really helpful and even, enlightening. The way he talks about food on his shows have always enthralled me, and it is no different in the written form.(less)
