This is the third Shakesperian play that I've read. The first one that I've read is Much Ado About Nothing which is a comedy and the second one is Romeo and Juliet which is a tragedy. I picked Hamlet because it is one of Shakespeare's most popular play and I think many considered it as his best work. Contrary to the two plays that I've already read. Hamlet is more of a tragic revenge story than a love story. This is also more philosophical and harder to read than Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo & Juliet. The story or the plot is easy to understand, but there are some lines that I find really hard to understand the meaning. So, what I did is I Google some of the lines to be able to understand what is Shakespeare is trying to say. Back when I was in High School, we have this oration/speech thingy that we need to do. And some of my classmates recited To be or not to be (and I don't remember what is the title of the speech I recited but it's not from Shakespeare) and that's where I first heard it. I remember back then I don't really know the message of To be or not to be. Since when I was in High School we only discussed about Shakespeare's sonnets and and we also need to act on a play called The Merchant of Venice but I remember I do not really act on any role and I'm on the production aspect of the play. And then we also need to memorize "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players" (I forgot the title of that) for a speech choir contest. And to be able to read Hamlet now and to understand some of the lines (thanks to Google) was really brilliant and cool. Like I realized that to be or not to be means to live or die because be means being so it's like existence. So what Hamlet really say is: To live or die that is the question But this is not a contemplation of suicide but rather a contemplation of murder. To die here do not mean he wants to kill himself but it means that he knew that if he'll murder Claudius he will also be murdered. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer He was thinking if it is more appropriate to live but of course he'll suffer because he knows that he needs to kill Claudius or the other option of to not play safe and take action meaning kill Claudius. To die: to sleep; So this is the continuation...so he's thinking if he'll take action he'll die. But he's also thinking that maybe dying will be more like sleeping and "what dreams may come" means like maybe there's dreaming after death or a life after death. That makes calamity of so long life; so this is like...what will be the essence of living in a world that is full of corruption? But that the dread of something after death, so he makes a point that life after death is very uncertain...it's like we mortal beings are uncertain of whether there is really an eternal life and that makes death scary Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; Here Hamlet's having trouble because he's a moral being and like all of us he also has a conscience. He knew what is right and what is wrong. It is wrong to kill a man and this thought was hindering him to do what he knows that he needs to do- to kill Claudius. So from that text alone Shakespeare talks about life, death, life after death and morality. And this is just a part of this play, so I really recommend you to read it. But I do recommend to buy a copy with annotations because as I've said some of the lines are hard to understand. So if I misinterpreted any lines, feel free to comment because I'm not really an authority and I just use Google.(less) | Notes are private!

The tree just gives and gives 'till there's nothing left for her to give. I just feel sad for the tree because the boy was actually taking advantage of everything. It's weird but I'm actually sad because of a tree. I think there's something really painful when you have love someone truly that you don't care about what's in it for you and it is not reciprocated but you still continue to love and give and you are just content that that person is happy. Now I'm depressed and I want to hug and comfort that tree. (less) | Notes are private!

I read this short It was a short read (200 pages long) and what I really liked about it is that it has a unique style of writing. It was arranged like a dictionary so there's a word and then if it is a verb, noun or adjective it was written beside the word and then the description is like a journal or a diary entry and the word is almost like a title to that diary entry. The story is not chronological and it seems like you're reading jumbled moments of these two characters who were in love with each other. There are entries wherein they were like sweet to each other and there are also entries wherein it seems like they broke up. However, the style of writing is really engaging and unique. I actually knew a lot of new words because of it like quixotic, quintessence, zenith, etc. because the nook has this dictionary thingy. Actually you can't get the exact meaning of the word in the lover's dictionary especially if it is a highfalutin word. Also, I really like how the author play with words and I really like the part wherein sometimes there are parallels like how he described ephemeral and ethereal. It was also funny like I really laugh at how he described celibacy, candid, etc. So, highly recommended for everyone who loves to read a book that is a short read and has a unique attack. Best book of the series so far. I have heard that the book series is originally intended as a trilogy, but the story became so complicated that it needs seven books to resolve all the problems and plot issues. I think that the series is really a complicated story even more complicated than Lord of the Rings. When I started the series I feel that I know who the villains and who the good guys were, but even the characters are complicated. Sometimes they are neither a villain nor a hero they are just in the middle. Lord of the Rings is a kind of story that you already know who the bad guys and the good guys were but this series is far more intriguing and there are a lot of secrets and it is just so beautifully written. At first I think that the Lannisters are the enemy, but now I'm starting to root for them, for Tyrion, Jamie, Tommen, and Myrcella. Even the characters that I thought are good people are the bad ones and the character that I thought are the bad people turned out to be the good ones. There are just too many lies that I feel that I was also mislead in some ways. And I really applaud that some of the truths are finally revealed. It was very unpredictable and I really thought that the author really think about how he will play out the story and the characters. I really recommend this series if you haven't read it yet and I would say that I know not all readers would really like the book. I think it fits more to mature readers. There are sex, violence and a lot of mature content that not really for young readers. I also say that if you are a reader who always loves happily ever after this is also not for you. If you are willing to invest time in a long series about politics, magic, and family I think this one is for you. Spoiler Alert Jon Snow ***Jon Snow is no longer a virgin. At first I was really annoyed because I want him to not break any of his vows and remain an honest brother of the Night's Watch. However, this would mean that Kit Harrington, the guy who played Jon Snow will have numerous sexy scenes *drools* so yeah never mind. Ahem. Aside from numerous sexy scenes, a lot has happened to Jon Snow. In the end he became the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. He has a power similar to Bran. He is also a wrag (or was it warg?) I'm not sure about the spelling but he can also be inside Ghost's body. I can't really tell all that happened but here are some of them: Ygrette the lovey dovey wildling he loved and has sex with was killed. Lord Mormont was killed. We know a lot about the wildlings in this book which in the past books are really a blur. There's also Janos Slynt who became a new member of the Night's Watch. King Stannis came to the wall and rescue them from the wildlings. King Stannis offer the position of Lord of Winterfell to Jon Snow. Here is the link on whom they cast as Ygritte: http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/10/r... Daenyrys ***Actually I'm starting to get bored reading Dany's chapters. Barristan the Bold joins them and she is gathering an army and the dragons are growing. She doesn't trust Jorah anymore and she kinds of get him out of her sight because he learned that Jorah betrays her at first by sending information to Robert Baratheon about her and Drogo and their son. Tyrion ***Tyrion is my favorite POV to read. His POV is always funny and interesting. My favorite parts in this book is Tyrion and Sansa's wedding it was really an interesting part to read. It is funny and painful at the same time. I think it's unfair for both of them to be wed. I think Tyrion is attracted to Sansa because Sansa is very pretty and he is very fond of the Starks and he's just this ugly but smart and kind dwarf who just wanted love and attention. Sansa on the other hand was this girl who dreams of prince charming and beautiful wedding and she unfortunately wed to an ugly dwarf and he is a Lannister. When I told my sister about it she was actually furious because she hates Sansa and she thinks Tyrion deserve a better wife than Sansa. Whereas at that moment I'm thinking the exact opposite wherein I think Sansa deserve a better husband. What happens to Tyrion: He is accused of poisoning and killing King Joeffrey. Tysha is not a whore, revealed by his brother Jamie. Jamie rescues Tyrion from his cell. He will now leave King's Landing. Arya ***Arya's POV became repetitive and less exciting. She meets a lot of characters including the Hound and Ser Benric Dondarion. At the end of the novel she will be traveling to Braavos. She got Needle back. Bran ***Another less exciting POV. He goes beyond the wall to find the Three-Eyed Crow and meeting Samwell Tarly along the way. Robb ***FUCK! Robb was fucking dead. It was really cruel how he died and it was in the hands of his alliance House Frey and it happens in a wedding that the people would call Red Wedding after the horrible murder. I've heard that this book will be two seasons season 3 and season 4. And I think it will be a great idea because Robb was killed halfway to the book and I think it would be really a dramatic ending to Season 3. And all the fans will be like I DON'T WANT TO WATCH THIS FUCKING SERIES ANYMORE! Actually that's what I feel like when I read that part. I stop reading and I was like thinking in my head NO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN and for a moment I don't want to read anymore. It's just very shocking because I'm not really expecting it because I thought if Robb will die in the books it will be at war fighting the Lannisters. I'm just wondering if the HBO series will raise the bar and will do it exactly like in the books because IMO his death is too grotesque for TV because he's beheaded and then they stitched the head of Grey Wind to his body. So it looks like Robb with a wolf head. Catelyn Stark also suffers a brutal death she was cut from ear to ear and then they throw her body naked in the river. However, at the end of the novel she came back as a zombie. Idk if that's the right term but she came back from the dead. Jamie ***I think Jamie became more likable and relatable in book 3. He lost his right hand and he can't fight anymore. I really love his POV and there's really more to Jamie than meets the eye. He's not exactly the character I thought he was in book 1. He has a heart and a very complex character. I think his only fault was loving Cersei his twin. Now I love him more. He is the antihero of the series. I really like that the two Lannister boys are both antiheroes in a way and there are very real and honest characters. Now that I finished book 3. I'm excited to know what will happen to these characters: -Sansa and Petyr -Tyrion -Jamie -Jon Snow -Brienne -Arya -Cersei -Catelyn(less) | Notes are private!

It was given to me by the Traveling Books in The Filipino Group in Goodreads ^^ 5 out of 5 stars I got this book from The Traveling Books in The Filipino Group in goodreads.com. It originally came from Han and then was given to Po and then it was my turn.
I did not immediately read this, however, and it took me months to finish reading this. Even my younger sister told me that she observed that I got too long to finish reading this book when she was accustomed in seeing me read a book in a day or in a week. It's not that it's terrible. My problem at first was the beginning was slow and I was not intrigued enough to read it continuously. And since I am a polygamous reader I read a lot of books while trying to read this one. And there are times that I almost forgot reading it and since I got weary because I need to give this to the next person who is Tricia in the Christmas Party of The Filipino Group in goodreads.com. I decided to read it and finish it even if I'm really busy. You might probably wondering why I still gave it 5 stars even though it took me months to read it. Actually, regardless of me being lazy to finish it. It was a really good novel. It has a beautiful writing and the characters are likable. The story is excellent. The layers of the story are written very well. Though I have to say that this novel is for mature readers. In fact, when I was reading it at first I thought that it was a novel for children and then it was the type of novel that will engage children to read since the novel is all about passion for reading books and the main character is a bookworm. However, the moment I read a sex scene in the book I realized that it's not what I thought it would be. And then there are other mature themes in the book like wife battery, incest, murder, and a lot of sex scenes too. So, really not for kids. Weird enough, now that I finished it I have this feeling that I want to read it again. Since this is a mystery novel, a lot of the truths were revealed in the end of the book. And I just wanted to read it again in a perspective that I already knew the secrets and the mysteries of the stories. However, I knew that I really don't have the opportunity to do that. I just thought it was amazing how these characters and these characters have met and their lives were changed because of that. It was just amazing. I can't really explain it very well, but as I've said I really loved this book.

Do you love the desert? ![]() Do you love cage fighting? ![]() and worms? ![]() ![]() ![]() If you're cool with those things, then I got to say YOU HAFTA READ THIS! When I started reading Blood Red Road I did not like it that much because the beginning was a little bit cheesy especially when they talked about stars and prophecy. Also, the writing style did not help, there are a lot of spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes. I know that this writing style was used by Patrick Ness on his Chaos Walking Trilogy and I also have the impression that Moira Young stole the idea. The words in this one spells like how they would sound like for example: exactly will be something like ezackly, stomach will be stummick, respect will be respek, afraid will be something like afeard and so on and so forth There are also grammar mistakes on the subject and verb agreement like I says was used rather I say. But once you start reading it you will get used to it in the end. Just like what happen to me when I read The Knife of Never Letting Go. Once you meet Miz Pinch that is when the story will get more exciting. If there is a one word that I can describe what Blood Red Road is, it will be Adventure. Once you read this, you are brought to different places, different situations and different characters. I really like the places they are different and I can just imagine them. The world Moira Young creates is really something. It's like Graceling and Lord of the Rings, the world is just rich. The Silverlake, Hopetown, Freedom fields, etc. There are many places and they are really amazing. It is also unpredictable I'm always looking forward to what will happen next. There are a lot of characters from the good ones and the bad ones. I really like them Saba, Lugh, Emmi, Jack, Epona, Ash, Maev, Helen, Tommo, Demalo, Miz Pinch, the King, all of them. The characters are really great you will root for them, and care for them like they are real. The love story was also a good one Saba and Jack. Saba is stubborn and strong. She reminds me of Katniss and Katsa. Jack is happy go lucky, cocky and teasy. He reminds me of the lead guy in Tangled ...Finnick, and Jace Wayland. That's it! I really like it because of: 1. The world building 2. The characters 3. The love story SPOILER ALERT!!! My favorite part is the one (view spoiler)[when they are in the river Saba and Maev was there bathing in the river and Jack came. Maev left and Saba and Jack were talking and then Jack wanted to take a bath too and he teased Saba if she wanted to watch him and he started to count one two three trying to remove his trousers and Saba ran (hide spoiler)] And there are times that Jack will be shirtless ![]() and I'm thinking ![]() SPOILER ALERT!!! Maybe what I didn't like about it is the ending because I expected that (view spoiler)[killing the King would not be that easy (hide spoiler)] and it (view spoiler)[ended like all is well (hide spoiler)]. (view spoiler)[How about the next book? Who will be the villain and what will be the conflict? (hide spoiler)] I just hope the next one is just as exciting as the first one. Wh...more Taken from Chapter 22 of Life of Pi "I can well imagine an atheist's last words: "White, white! L-L-Love! My God!" - and the deathbed leap of faith. Whereas the agnostic, if he stays true to his reasonable self, if he stays beholden to dry, yeastless factuality, might try to explain the warm light bathing him by saying, "Possibly a f-f-failing oxygenation of the b-b-brain," and, to the very end, lack imagination and miss the better story." This is a very typical story of faith against adversity and faith still manage to triumph in the end. What makes it unique is that Pi, the main character is a Hindu, a Christian and a Muslim at the same time. His trial of faith and survival starts when the ship that he and his family together with their animals (because they are zookeepers) sink in the Pacific. He found himself inside a lifeboat together with his animals orangutan, hyena, zebra and a tiger. It was similar to the movie Castaway, but instead of being totally alone he has animals with him. It was actually pretty similar to National Geographic and you will learn a lot about animals and their behaviors. I think this book is really informative and thought provoking and very brutal. There are scenes that are really horrendous like cannibalism, etc. However, all in all I think this is really a must read. Its get kind of weird and boring sometimes, but it's not really preachy. I think it has a lot of symbolism that I just can't interpret yet. I think the tiger and the other animals maybe symbolize something. What I learned from it is that sometimes we really need to believe in the unbelievable and believe in something, whatever religion it is. This book actually acknowledges Atheism, but not Agnosticism. I think what the author tries to point out is that better believe than doubt and just make a stand. Believe in Science if not Religion or believe in Religion than doubt both Religion and Science.(less) | Notes are private!

Also one of my friends here, Rollie, even mentioned that he liked Divergent more than the Hunger Games. And of course, I trust these people, when they say that a book is amazing, for sure I know it is true. Then I'm itching to read it, but the problem was, I've no money and I'm even finding a hard time looking for the copy at our National Bookstore. Then, came the time that we went to Mall of Asia and, we're kind of celebrating my 20th birthday and our waiting place was the National Bookstore and I've seen Divergent in the New Releases Section. I think it was really the approriate time, I've money and it's my birthday (4 days kind of late, actually) and I decided to have a birthday treat. So for those who haven't read it yet I heartily recommend it. It is a Young Adult Book. The genre is dystopian. The futuristic world in Divergent is divided into five factions... ![]() Abnegation (The Selfless)- symbol: a hand helping another hand Amity (The Peaceful)- symbol: a tree Erudite (The Intelligent)- symbol: an eye Dauntless (The Brave)- symbol: a flame *this is also the symbol in the bookcover Candor (The Honest)- symbol: scale If you want to watch the book trailer here it is: http://youtu.be/tu5Erw-posg If you're wondering what the term Divergent means it actually means that you can fit to two or more factions. You will know more about it reading the book. What I really liked about the book is the world the author has created, at first I thought it was really idealistic, but when I'm reading it, I surmised it is flawed (of course I'm reading Dystopia, you know the 101, government and system is corrupted blah blah blah) and it is also more like political so it's really thought provoking and intriguing. I also like that there's romance in this book, but there's no love triangle, so I think it's different. It's a mix of adventure, lots of fighting and there's training and simulation tests, there's mystery, there's political intrigue, there's humor, lots of violent scenes and it also has romance. So boys and girls I think would love it. I also like that there's a lot of betrayal, a lot of twists and turns and for most of the time it's not really what I expected. I've been thinking that it could be a contender for the Hunger Games, but I'm not 100% sure if this one is better since this is only the first book in the series. So my decision if Divergent is better than Hunger Games will be decided I think after reading all the books in the trilogy. PS: I think if I will have to choose for a faction, I'll be Erudite. :) Note: With spoiler, to those who have read it, just scroll down ![]() ![]() ![]() Yay spoilers ^^ The scenes that I did not expect: 1. So while reading it I never really expect that Caleb will choose to be Erudite, I knew that Beatrice will choose Dauntless because of a youtube review I've watched. 2. I was also shocked when I've learned that Beatrice's mom is a former Dauntless and she was killed in the end of the book, I thought that the author would spare her life. And even Tris' dad she had it killed at the first book. 3. Four's real identity. I thought that when at the start of the book when they're talking about Tobias and Marcus it never really crossed in my mind that that conversation would be important. And Four is Tobias and then at the end of the book he was reunited with his dad. I don't know if Marcus was really an evil character, I think we'll know more about it as the series progresses. 4. The end part of this book really came out as a shocker. There's war, there's genocide and all came out really intense and violent. There are important characters that were killed like Will and Tris killed her. Tris' mom and dad were killed. A lot of Abnegations were killed. And we don't know what will happen to Tori and Christina. 5. Two factions are left in chaos and we don't know what will happen to the Dauntless and the Abnegation. And it seems that for a while they will be factionless. I'm not also really sure what will happen in Amity and Candor if they will support the Abnegation refugees or the Erudites. I never would have thought that I'll have the chance to read this book, for the reason that I don't even know that this book exist. However, when I once again attended a meet-up by The Filipino Group in Goodreads last April 10 2011, which was also a celebration of the first anniversary of the group, Kwesi and I had the opportunity to swap books. I have given him the book 1st to Die by James Patterson and he gave this book to me, which I don't have any idea what the book is all about. But judging on the title "Godless" I have a feeling that it will delve on Religion and Atheism. Reading the backcover of it I was already fascinated, a teenage boy bored of his parent's religion (Catholicism) decided one summer to create his own religion, which was Chutengodianism, a new worship which fundamentally believe that the Town's Water Tower was the one and true God. A big part of me immediately relate to that kid. I would say that I also found going to churh, listening to priest, praying rosary, reading the bible etc. boring. Most of the time, I believe I am a non-believer, an atheist, but no I think a Skeptic is the perfect word for me. I want to believe in God but I wanted proof, I want to see it before I believe it. I find it really funny that this book is so natural. There are a lot of things the character said about Religion specifically Catholicism that are really offensive. I'm thinking if you're a believer of Christian Faith you might find it blasphemous or the book was like questioning Religion and it puts Religion on a bad state and there are a lot of the propaganda but for me it doesn't felt contrived or it doesn't felt like I was forced to believe in it. It's like here's the thing, think about it and it's not like here's the thing, believe in it. If that even makes sense. I also love that the book is very funny and sarcastic. It's like reading this, I laughed out loud and I can't stop it. I even think about it's like a long time ago a book made me feel that way. And yeah I found books that made me laugh, special. It's like a very nice friend that could lighten up your mood and will give you a stomachache for its dry wit. It's a very nice read and I really recommend it, just be open minded especially if you're a Catholic. I don't find questioning faith and God wrong or even found Atheists bad people. It's a very thought provoking and imaginative book that would really got you thinking about your own faith as well. I also find the ending of it satisfying and it's a great way to end the book. Jason, the main character ended it with an epiphany or a reflection about himself, and there is that uncertainty about him and what he really believes in, that I find amazing and haunting.(less) | Notes are private!

I think I’m one of the few fortunate people in Goodreads who actually have been given 3 free books, as of this year 2011 (And I’m talking of real, tangible books not just e-books). First I've won in the Goodreads Giveaways (I’m not confabulating its really true) and I’ve got two books Envy and Chill Factor by Sandra Brown delivered at my doorstep and it was autographed…Oh My Gosh. And then my luck of receiving free books doesn’t end there. This book that I’m reviewing Before Ever After was given as a birthday gift by Ms. Samantha Sotto, the author of this book. If you’re wondering how it happened, if I received it because I won again in a giveaway or if the author is my friend in real life, no that was not how it happened. What happened was I added this book in my gargantuan to-read list and then when I was reading the book info I noticed that the book will come out on my birthday which is August 2. And then I wrote a review saying, “You know what, this book will come out on my birthday. :) No kidding. I love it already,” and then Ms. Sam Sotto have read my review and gave me a message that she love to give me a copy of her book on my birthday. And I was like: ![]() Of course since that was really cute and sweet and heartwarming that the author herself has read my review and she even think of giving me a book on my birthday *sniff sniff* (which was actually a first time for me, even though I really love books I never got them as birthday presents, however I got a home library as a graduation present). Okay to make a super long story short I’ve met Sam personally during the 5th meet up of The Filipino Group in Goodreads and she handed it to me and I’ve even got the chance to have it autographed. And this is how it looked like: ![]() ***Die envious folks...teehee*** So okay done with the introduction and now let's get into reviewing...to be more organized I'm going to write the pros and then the cons... So here goes. Pros: 1. I really like the short stories/subplots/folktales inside the story. I can't really explain it but these stories are really unique and they are really interesting. The first subplot (something about a revolution)I think while reading it I even say a bad word out loud because I was just really shocked and thank goodness I was alone in my bedroom so no one really heard me utter those bad words. And then the second subplot was my favorite of all (it was the Basilisk Story) I remember the format was kind of similar to the Shrieking Shack story of the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. To make it more clear (I think if you’re a Potter fan, you’ll understand what I’m saying) do you remember when I think Hermione told Ron about the story of a ghost howling in the Shrieking Shack and that’s how it got it name (Shrieking..Get it?) And then later in the story we learned the truth that it was not a ghost but (view spoiler)[Lupin when he transformed into a werewolf that makes the sound (hide spoiler)]. So in this book it was similar to that, there’s a story about a Basilisk but later the true story about it came out. Also I like the very last story, the story of Maximus and Livia. It was another great subplot and I remember I even have palpitations reading it. It was just intense, I can’t really describe it. 2. I like how she can write from one genre to another. First it was a mystery and then there’s romance, there’s adventure, there’s historical fiction mix with fantasy and supernatural and then there’s also humor. She can make me laugh, sometimes I feel intrigued and then it can be sweet, it can be tragic, it can be informative. It was a mix of light and heavy. The heaviness of the subplots which in general are tragic stories is lightened and layered by the humor of Max and the campers. She can also play with different timelines, different settings and different characters and that made me decide that this book is a book that is hard to write, it has its complexities and despite the fact that there are things that I didn’t like I still think that it deserve a 5 star rating, not just because the author gave this to me and I owe her a good review but I think she really deserve it because of the fact that she have write a good novel. Cons: 1. The one thing that I didn’t like in this book was the ending. While I was reading Maximus and Livia’s story as I’ve mentioned I was having palpitations and I was like I’ll give the book a solid five stars but then come to the end of the book I was disappointed because the ending was made in such a haste. I think the epilogue has only four sentences and I know it was (view spoiler)[a happy ending (hide spoiler)] but it was really confusing and I’m not really sure if the elements of (view spoiler)[Immortality, how Max became immortal was properly explained, how Shelly became Immortal as well (hide spoiler)] It was very confusing, I didn’t quite get it. But still I think minus the unclear ending it was a good read. I recommend it to all my friends and to Ms. Samantha Sotto, congratulations on your debut novel. I’ll look forward for more. I love this book. It's easy to read, straight-forward and memorable. I immediately fell in love with the story because of the characters. Atticus Finch, Jem and of course Scout. It brings you back to your childhood when life is easy and you're always playing with your siblings, friends and neighbors. The time when you always look up to your parents and your parent/s will be your teacher, friend and role model. If you liked Tom Sawyer or the first half of The Book Thief you might like the first part of "To Kill a Mockingbird." To be honest, reading the middle part becomes tedious and I just want something big to happen. So, I stopped reading for a while and watched Nikita (American TV Show). After I finished that, I resumed my reading and right then I couldn't stop reading because it became really interesting. One thing that haunts me and angers me is that it doesn't end the way I liked it to be. Reading the first part, it felt like a fairy tale. I was really hoping that it will be a happy ending for Robinson. I felt like I was slapped by the author. This is the sad reality that she wanted me to read and to experience. I knew that it was obvious, the title itself is a foreshadowing. It's a tragic story of injustice and racial discrimination. I just felt really bad reading it especially the parts when a child read a current event about Adolf Hitler and what he's doing in Germany. In America the Whites discriminate the Blacks, in Germany the Germans discriminate the Jews. This book is an eye-opener and I learned a lot of things. I hope that I'll be able to treat everyone equally without prejudice and discrimination. (less) | Notes are private!

I am one of the luckiest Goodreaders who actually won a copy of this book via the Goodreads Firstreads Giveaways. When I received the news I was really happy, happy because I think this was the very first time I actually won something through luck. I actually have no idea who the author was and what was the book was all about because I just randomly enter any books that are listed in the Giveaway list. So I'm like Sandra Brown Who? Nevertheless someone commented that Sandra Brown was a good author so even though I have no idea if I'll like the book or not I'm still excited to read it. The book actually arrived very late and it just arrived this month of July when supposedly it should arrived earlier like in the months of January or February. My mom was the one who received the package and she was very delightful when she learned that I just got that free from a giveaway contest. The package contained the book Envy, the one I won and another book which is called Chill Factor. The book Envy was in hardbound and I'm really glad because it was actually signed by the author. Which for me was also a first time to have a book that was actually have the author's signature in it. I am really anxious to read it and I don't know what to expect. I was pleased that from the very first chapter I got hooked and I simply can't stop reading. The one thing I really liked about it was that you'll learn a lot of things about writing a novel, publishing, books, authors etc. I do like that this book draw me to that experience wherein I learned so much about book business because you know I really like books and it's just really interesting to know more about how novels are made. I really like the concept of this one, there are two stories involved in this book, the story itself and also the story about Envy, the novel that this mysterious writer was trying to write. It's like there's a story and then within it there's another story. The plot of this book is layered between the two stories. I could have given these 5 stars, it was a good story actually, it will keep you guessing and you'll find yourself reading and turning pages and after the end of a chapter you'll get more excited to get into another chapter. However I was disappointed on how everything ended I just felt that the mystery of the novel was really strong at the beginning but at the end it was just okay how the mysteries were revealed one by one and honestly I didn't feel that much excitement. I really recommend it if you like romance and suspense in a novel and I just want to say that I really like this more rather than The Women's Murder Club and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Some parts are original (or rather I first know from it) like the Rumpelstiltskin Anomaly etc. 2. Okay the filipino lore was cool like the Kapre, dwende, aswang, diwata etc. 3. She actually writes decent action scenes which reminds me of how Cassandra Clare would write it. 4. The ending was really good and unpredictable though the epilogue was just meh. 5. I do love the Macky part but I think there's a typo with how Fey should be spelled because in this one it was spelled as Fay. Cons: 1. This reminds me of a lot of things like: >Mockingjay(view spoiler)[(with the Mamon thingy--Coin in Mockingjay) (hide spoiler)] >Naruto(view spoiler)[(with the Mamon's conspiracy against the Shepherds--Konoha conspiracy against the annihilation of the Uchiha Clan) (hide spoiler)] >Twilight (view spoiler)[(with the romance-- the girl, the paranormal guy and the best friend and this star-crossed lovers thingy) (hide spoiler)] >Gundam Seed (view spoiler)[(with the your parent are the one responsible with the experimentation of human lives bomb) (hide spoiler)] >City of Bones (view spoiler)[(with the sister/brother bomb) (hide spoiler)] >Resiklo(this is a movie of Bong Revilla btw)-- (view spoiler)[with the Blood transfusion can make you into an enemy (hide spoiler)] 2. The characters are also similar with: Athena- Rose Hathaway from VA River- Adrian Ivashkov from VA Dorian- Edward Cullen from Twilight ***I'll probably edit this one...youtube is winning*** Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lonRfy... ____________________________________________________ Nyahaha finally I finish this one Phew! *wipes imaginary sweat on the forehead* Well this reminds me of Beautiful Creatures, a book that I give up on because it bored me, and I pick up another set of books instead. But when I finally find the time to finish it...Boy I was so wrong. Actually the beginning was good, in the middle it dragged *here's when I gave up* but the ending was great thus the 4 stars. I might have given it a 5 but the fact that I gave up on it was a major turn off so I have to minus 1 star. Will Review later... _____________________________________________________ Thoughts Before Reading Geeeeeezuuuussssss! If you do, you start missing everybody." God I love this book. First of all it's kind of hard to explain why I love Catcher in the Rye since my reasons are highly personal and I was not even in the mood explaining some of my past life experiences just for you to understand why I felt such great connection and empathy with Holden Caufield. Just put it this way that once in my teenage life I've experienced alienation and depression. It was painful and it really made me sad and depressed that through this novel I was able to remember those things that I really don't want to even remember. See I am depressed. This book made me depressed. It just made me realized some things like when maybe sometime in the future you'll meet someone, a person who doesn't have anyone to talk to, it is important that you listen to them, just listen, and maybe that was enough for them. Sometimes this world and this life is such a sad place to live in but if you know that there is someone willing to stay with you or be your friend, it doesn't seem so sad anymore. More Things I like about it: 1. It was an easy read, even if it's a Classic book surprisingly it was very easy to read unlike Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby (note: I didn't even finish these two books because my head exploded while I was reading them). 2. It was very similar to The New Dress by Virginia Woolf and what a surprise they even have the same "stream of consciousness" style and the "non-linear plot" style. Mind you I love The New Dress but Catcher in the Rye was way better. 3. Symbolism: ![]() -ducks= was actually Holden Caufield ***When Holden Caufield was asking the cab driver what will happen to the ducks in the pond during Winter. What he was actually trying to say is that: "What will happen to me during this winter?" -red hunting hat= security blanket -when Holden says "You" in the narrative he actually means "I" One Thing I Don't Like About It 1. The book was very "Anti-Girl" I just didn't like it that Holden says so many negative things about women and that he really generalizes women. Like for example he had an experience with this girl and he'll say something negative about it and then after that he will generalize it that "All girls are like that" and that was really way over the belt and that's just faulty generalization. I am a girl and all the negative things mention in this book about "girls in general" were highly ridiculous and so not true. Okay, I've read Saving Francesca after I've read On The Jellicoe Road, which was also a book by Melina Marchetta. These two books I borrowed from another goodreads member, his name is Veneficus and last July we swapped books. I gave him The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan and he gave me the two Marchetta books. When I'm deciding which one to read first I picked On The Jellicoe Road over Saving Francesca, because I've read a lot of glowing reviews about the former and when they talked about Melina Marchetta, it's always read On The Jellicoe Road. Unfortunately I was disappointed after reading On The Jellicoe. It's not that I didn't like it, I think I still gave it three stars (which means in goodreads' perspective--I liked it)however I thought that I would love it and gave it 5 stars like majority of my friends here, but I think three stars were enough. Sorry. However I was not discouraged to read her other works, thus I've read Saving Francesca still. And uhm before I read the book I looked into the back cover because after reading On The Jellicoe I was a little bit hesitant I will be disappointed again. From the back cover it says... ST. SEBASTIAN'S I don't know if I'm a little bit high with coffee that day but that made me laugh and from that I somehow have a feeling that maybe I would like this book more. I would say that the book is your typical Teenager book. main character is an outcast, new girl on a school, have no friends yet ![]() and there's the feeling of "School Sucks" ![]() and of course the never dying "Self discovery and where do I belong?" ![]() and I know, I know it is a little bit predictable but nevertheless I still loved it because even though the plot's simple its a story about a teenager, her family, her struggles, her friendships and finding more about herself as I've said it's very typical but the characters are very memorable, they are very diverse, and what I really like also was the dialogues, it's funny, it's entertaining, it's sweet, and when you read the lines you'll be smiling, laughing or having a "goofy grin" in your face. I think it's special in its own way and I can't believe I'm saying this now, "Hey Marchetta, I'm a fan!" I recommend it if you like Sarah Dessen's The Truth About Forever, if you like Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles and the likes. :) And btw I think I should end this review by thanking Veneficus for giving me a chance to read Marchetta's works. Don't worry I'll probably return it on Wednesday. Maraming salamat.(less) | Notes are private!

(I'm going to use Q & A style of reviewing this time) What made you pick-up the book? > I actually watched a book trailer in Youtube (the link to that vid was way down there somewhere) so and yeah I got intrigued by that video and then I go to goodreads and read reviews about it. I was a bit shock about the mix reviews, some was positive and some was negative. So because of it I think I should read it so I have to know for myself if it's good or not. What are your expectations before reading it? > I actually have lower expectations since I've read a couple of negative reviews and they said it was very similar to The Giver by Lois Lowry. Honestly I didn't like The Giver (I just gave it two stars) and at first I thought that maybe I wouldn't like the book but at least I'd love to give utopia a second try. What do you love about the book? >Okay there are many things I love about this book: a. Writing Style- it was prose with a mix of poetry (somewhat lyrical) so if you adore Maggie Stiefvater's or Carrie Ryan's style of writing you probably would love Ally Condie's style as well. b. Cassia (the heroine)- actually the heroine was not annoying and she has a strong voice. To be more specific, her character at first was a weak one and as the story progresses, her way of thinking changes and it got deeper and deeper. She actually got a good character development and she has a lot of epiphanies about her so-called perfect society and that's what I love about her. Everything around her seems perfect when you look at it superficially but when you try to analyze it deeper there society was perfect but they have no choices, no freedom at all, they're like society's puppets. c. The love story- at first the love story was idk just a love story, but it has actually implies idk what you call that uhhhm symbolism or whatever...so yeah this is what I just think about it: Xander vs Ky or this could mean (own interpretation folks) Conformity vs. Rebellion Known vs. Unknown Perfection vs. Imperfection Love that was dictated by Society vs. Love that was dictated by oneself d. Ky and Cassia's relationship- it builds up (it actually builds up *sorry for the repetition folks*). So yeah I just wanna rant those other books wherein yeah the boy meets girl or rather the girl meets boy and then baaaaaaam for 5 seconds they freaking love each other (like they're soulmates or idk destined for each other *gags*). Come on that was so unrealistic when authors do that, it seems they're too lazy to write the part of you know "getting-to-know-each-other" part of a relationship *coughs*. So yeah :) that was what I like about this book, I mean yeah whatever idk how to explains it but they actually have that "getting-to-know-each-other" thingy. And idk when I was reading this book I felt like I'm not reading it (if you know what I mean), I felt like I was existing inside the book. Like I was Cassia and I felt all her emotions and I empathize with her problems and I can see her world right into my eyes. So yeah I just felt that while I was reading this, I would definitely pick every choices that Cassia made. I know that in my hearts of heart I would fall in love with Ky even though it was forbidden, even though my Society says that Xander was the one I was suppose to marry. I mean there's just something about Ky that pulls you into him even if it was dangerous. Ky was mysterious and his story was what urge me to know more about him (just like Cassia). Is it that wonderful when you actually was curious to know more about a person because of his/her imperfection and rather of his/her perfection? What do you hate about the book? a. It was unoriginal. > Actually there's something about this book that screams out Rip-off and Plagiarism *ever read The Giver and Hunger Games?*. Yeah but I think since this book was in the genre of utopia/dystopia, maybe there were just a few things/elements that will be always similar like: -The Political Intrigue -Human vs. Society -Rebellion -"The Government/Society Lied" thingy or "Your whole life was a lie" thingy -the protagonist will always have moments of "Epiphany" on the book -Social Manipulation sort of stuff -Philosophical and Political morals/ideas that would be shove into your throat as the storyline progresses b. I felt that the book was idk the term uhhhhm "bridge" or "exposition/ introduction" for the other books. I mean in this book there are hints that some people outside the province were actually rebelling and there's like a war blah blah blah. But in this book the rebellion was not yet elaborated so I think that will be for the next books to come. c. I love it but the ending, I felt that it wasn't an ending at all. Idk there are so many questions that are left hanging and I felt that to be able to really judge this book you need to read the whole series and how things will be played out in the end. So yeah I need the next book pretty fast! What are other books you want to recommend with the same genre? Okay so I just list them here, I'll divide dystopia and utopia and will sort of rank them out: Dystopia: 1. (5stars)
(5stars)
(both 1 star and 5stars)2. (5stars)
(2stars)3. (5stars)4. (4stars)
(2stars)Utopia: 1. (5stars)2. (2stars)3. (2stars)Note: Weeeeee! I just finished Matched and it was AMAZING. I want more!!! I love Ky Markham btw he kinda reminds me of someone *daydream for a moment* *coughs* (Eeeeeeeeeeek, *violently shoves someone*)Yeah and I just want to share a conversation with my classmate here: Joyzi: Hey I recommend you to read the Hunger Games it was so amazing blah blah blah and I read it like in one sitting cuz I can't put it down and Peeta was so sweet and everything blah blah blah, best book ever blah blah (So yeah I think I just recommend Matched by Ally Condie to my friend, because this book has zero violence but has an amazing Dystopia theme *it was quite similar to the Giver but this one has romance and the writing was breathtakingly beautiful*) Yeah, idk what else to say, I will have an in depth review of the book on Sunday. ********************************************************** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaeNWL... The book contains murder, misogyny, gore, violence against children, children doing brutal things and foul language. Seriously IMO this fits more to adult readers, it was just so sick and disturbing that a part of me believed that this probably should not be in the YA category (or maybe that’s just me). 16 years old and plus will do (I copy the same censorship of Elfen Lied and Higurashi no naku koro ni). Sidenote: I just found out that Battle Royale was R-18 because it contains sexual assault and that’s the difference between BR and Hunger Games (HG doesn’t contain sexual violence thus the censorship is 12+). Another note: This review is an exaggerated imitation of Patrick Ness’ writing, his writing will get a little using to and you’ll be pissed off at first but trust me “feedback loop” is real and you’ll get use to the writing eventually(hopefully). My Non-Spoiler Effing Hook Review A-reading this book is like a-watching the vids Paranormal Activity! - Joyzi Ahm ruddy don effing know where to start my effing review so I just tell yoo the story of me a-reading this book The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. So at first I picked this book up cuz lotsa my friends here in GR are a-talking about it. Lotsa them rated the hook 5 stars btw so cuz of all the hype I decided to fin’lly readit. (ruddy evil hype, shut up!) Then ya I read the book and then this effing happens, effing happens, effing happens- 0--------------------------------------------------------------------100 (Wadda eff is that line? you effing asking) That effing line btw is a representayshun of my Tho by the end of Chapter 2 my patience line goes like this- 0 Interpretayshun: Joyzi's mood: a-blazing fury ![]() [Image: pissed off cat] I have to admit that before a-reading this I tot that Pretties by Scott Westerfield was the most horribly written and a-annoying kinda writing style I ever read in my entire effing life hut boy I was so wrong! Cuz reading the first two chapters of Patrick Ness’ book is much more annoying as hell! Evaluashun twixt the two: Pretties: >The Pretty Talk- fond of a-using bubbly, bogus, a-dizzy-making, a-pretty-making, ouching, a-oxygen-missing etc etc etc… >Character pet names- a-adding la or wa at the end e.g. Tally-wa, Shay-la, Zane-la The Knife of Never Letting Go > aka The Book of Typos > Misspelled words and grammatical errors that will surely make a Grammar Nazi effing end his/her life >neologisms that just made me infuriated like Ahm a-having a PMS or a-something >Redundancy- the author was fund of repeating what he writes three times as ifs yer dumb. Redundancy- the author was fund of repeating what he writes three times as ifs yer dumb. Redundancy- the author was fund of repeating what he writes three times as ifs yer dumb. As ifs yer dumb, as ifs yer dumb, as ifs yer dumb (we geddit already! shut up shut up) >I hated Manchee at first because his dialogues were ruddy retarded and it’s a-irritating. “Need a poo, Todd” “Poo, poo Todd” and the likes- >Todd’s POV was a little bit juvenile thus the humor was juvenile at first. >Todd was fund of a-using effing and that aggravated yet again the a-blazing fury mood in me. ![]() [Image: pissed off cat] I ruddy wanna kill the author at that point and I was like a-yelling, “Seriously ifs I ever see yoo Patrick Ness in person I gonna give yoo an effing dictionary!” Tho I still keep on a-reading it hoping that it will get better but no it was so horrendously written chapters after chapters that my mind was screaming, “Sunupahur! Someone effing enroll this guy in Writing101 or Ahm going to ruddy let you be eaten by crocs!” Still I a-reading it, a-reading it, a-reading it tho half of the book I was so effing angry at it due to these reasons- > The book was an effing alien story. If yoo happen to read my review of I Am Number Four yoo probably already know that I already have my mental note to myself a-saying: MENTAL NOTE TO SELF: Don't ever read something about ALIEN again >The hook lacks >The character Viola at first didn't speak like she's kinda mute and I hate that parts too because I really don't get her character at all like what's her purpose if she isn't speaking? >This was a chase story hut Todd and also the reader have no effing clue why the main character was chase by armies from Prentiss Town. And for most parts the story draaaaaaaags and it was effing plotless, plotless, plotless-- >There's a scene wherein Todd can't effing read his Ma's book and for some reason this reminds me of this vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7AvpZ... (laugh guys, it's only a joke shut up!) And then a-reading the second half of the book I started to like it cuz of this- GORE I effing love GORE! Can't yoo tell? ![]() [Image: Joyzi a-turning round and round with showers of petals a-falling on her] Yeah gore gives me that adrenaline rush it's like my heart goes thump badda thump badda thump badda baddda baddda thump- And it's like the feeling of a-reading The Hunger Games came back to me and I effing love this hook already! *okay stop with this creepiness (shut up, shut up!)* And secondly I effing love this because of Manchee- I'm a dog person btw- And these are my pups, ifs you effing care- ![]() [Image: Joyzi's dog Hachi being coerced to have a picture taken, the pup is scared of the camera flash btw so that explains her pose (someone ruddy calls the PETA! shut up!)] ![]() [Image: Joyzi's dog Dango, haven't got a problem with this one, she effing loves it when someone takes a photo of her, she's a narcissist] And then an effing miracle happens! (Feedback loop works crechers!) Joyzi changed her mind! (Hallelujah!) Joyzi now- >Loves the writing ergo it deserve the spot on my "writing-style-i-adore" shelf- For it was original and amazingly clever! >Loves this alien story, this one seems surprising since aliens are not my cuppa tea. This was the first time I enjoyed a-reading something like it because I never really like The Host by Stephenie Meyer and I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. It was just a breath of fresh air, all the ideas that are into this book and all the descriptions and rules of the planet I love'em all! >Loves Viola and Todd's relationship. It may not be as romancey as Peeniss tandem(that effing means PeetaxKatniss) in THG but it was just a sweet friendship I s'pose. Like they protect each other and they comfort each other and they are just there for one another and it doesn't feel contrived at all. It feels natural, how their relashunship builds and grows. >Empathize with Todd being illiterate. Oh honey I hate myself! I felt like I misjudge his character and when I know more about Todd he reminds me of Liesel Meminger from the Book Thief and Zero from the Holes. I mean I really don't know why I'm so hard on him at first hut then I realize he's just so vulnerable and I wanted to protect him and root for him. I just felt so bad I was so wrong about him and for that he's certainly one of those characters I will never ever forget. And he kinda reminds me of Peeta btw he's so like my Pita bread. Like his problem is he can't effing kill another person just like Peeta's dilemma on THG. Okay thassall I don't wanna spoil things hut I just wanna say that the twist in this book is a very disturbing event that even right now I can't stop a-thinking 'bout it. It was so sick and repulsive. I don't know how to really express my feelings about it. Just read the book and yoo'll be the judge. It will definitely keep you thinking and thinking and thinking and thinking- It will keep yer heart racing- It will blow yer mind- One of the best book ever, second to Hunger Games I s'pose!- There are just three things that I wanted right now- One. I wanted yoo to read the book. Two. I wanted to read the second book right now. And. Three. I wanted an effing movie! -Fin-!(less) | Notes are private!

That doesn't happen much, though." That quote simply states my feelings toward this book and this author Markus Zusak. Markus Zusak was such a good writer that I'd really wish that he and I are friends(^_^). I am saying that because totally the writing style was different. The Book Thief: "Hair the color of lemons,'" Rudy read. His fingers touched the words. "You told him about me?" I am the Messenger: "Sometimes people are beautiful. To put it simply The Book Thief has an odd writing style because the descriptions used by the writer is not common and he'd be like describing for example the hair is like lemons or feathers something like that. While in I am the Messenger, Zusak was fond of using "One word sentences" or sometimes "Three-word sentences." He has a lot of paragraphs which only contains one sentence or sometimes one word. It seems to me that his writing here was a mix of simplicity and complexity because he'll just use a spare amount of words but if you try to look at it deeply it's not as simple as it looks like because it has a deeper meaning and message on it. Another different aspect was the book genre. The Book Thief: Historical-fiction I am the Messenger: Contemporary fiction And I'd like to say that Zusak was a YA author but his books are definitely different from the YA norm nowadays and it's the type of YA book that can be enjoyed by adults. And also Zusak was very different from a lot authors since he's not formulaic and he can even as I said before write in different writing styles and book genres. Some points I want to add up: 1. The book is pretty much very Australian and I just want to say that somehow I like it that way because it is different, there are words and expressions used differently. Like for example instead of "Pharmacist" they used the word "Chemist" and "arse" was used instead of "ass." 2. The book has a very nice structure. It was divided into four parts which is the Diamonds, Clubs, Spades and the Hearts and we had an additional which is the Joker Suite. And each part was subdivided into chapters but we don't have that Chapter 1, 2 yada yada instead we have Aces to King Chapters. 3. The ending was really brilliantly plotted and I really like it. I really like how it ended. How Ed Kennedy will be able to know who's the one behind all of that messages and aces in his mailbox. The ending is very reminiscent to Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist because the answer(view spoiler)[was there right on the beginning of the book (hide spoiler)]. 4. The book was phenomenal, Zusak's books have the ability to change your life or rather change your perspectives. It can always touch your soul and it just leave a beautiful mark and it was simply amazing how can he touch you with the mere use of words. For me he'll always be the master of language, he uses words very beautifully and just I'm a big fan. *Completely hands down* "He makes me appreciate life more" (less) | Notes are private!

I haven't read the books yet but I'm a big fan of the movies. Back to what I'm saying I think this probably the most ambitious out of the Fey series since the storyline is much more solid. We got an epic battle scene at the end of the book wherein the Summer, the Winter Court and the Rogue Iron Faeries allied forces to be able to defeat the false Iron King which was Ferrum. I was pretty surprised and amazed on how Meghan Chase grew as a character. Yes she can be annoying and selfish at the beginning of the book but at the end she was selfless and what she sacrifice at the end was truly admirable. I also got to confessed something and please don't hate me for it. Everyone knows I love Puck more than Ash since book 1 and book 2 and this rarely happens that my loyalty ship or change. Oh please don't be angry but I really like Ash in this book but still don't get me wrong I still like Puck. I love that little by little I get to know Ash more and he's such a nice and sweet person. How can you not love him? He actually did things that make me root for him. Certainly I really love to read the next book because of Ash. What I really love about this book is it talks about love of family. Which we saw on how Meghan cares for her (not real) dad Paul and her human family. It's also pretty amazing that there's a scene wherein she called Oberon (his real dad) "father" just out of nowhere and it was pretty sweet as well. I also love that it talks about the destruction of old things like nature and faeries because of human corruption brought about by technology. In which the very existence of these creatures are endangered because little by little people tend to forget about them. I love that at the end of the book the author tied up how can the Iron Kingdom co-exist with the other faeries without causing any harm. And also I really like how Meghan accept responsibility over it and be mature enough to be a great leader. Overall it was a really amazing book. It's not only entertaining but it has deeper themes and messages as well.(less) | Notes are private!

It contains offensive language, violence and over the top sex. Before anything else, I'm going to share this song Satisfy by Vedera because some guy in Youtube make this a soundtrack for the book and I think the song captures the emotions in the book accurately. ♫♪If there was a way to try and make it back Back to where we started from Could I find a way to try and make you stay Would I know what could be done? I don't want to deny my heart its chance to feel I don't want to deny my soul something real Is there anything left in this world that will satisfy me? Is there anything left in this world that will satisfy you tonight? We were sailing on I could see the world below Never thought of coming down Expectations fell It seemed as though our will was no match for the trouble found So take my hand and i wont look back Though I've lived tossed along these waves I will stay♪♫ To watch for the book trailer here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPiv2w... Aaaaaaw if only I can find a way to sing that song to you guys *coughs* I mean I'm pretty good at singing, really, that the Mockingjays will immediately stop singing...*coughs*, sorry can't resist my Katniss Everdeenish alter ego atm Now back to review Pros: 1. It's a story about circus life, I repeat, CIRCUS LIFE PEOPLE! I mean who doesn't love circus, come on. Also I remember when I first saw a circus when I was in 3rd grade I was so amazed by it(the circus I mean) that I'm telling my mom that I wanted to join the circus(I know, hmmmpf, one of my childish idiocies, *roll eyes*). 2. The book has an intense(consider that an understatement) PROLOGUE. I think it's impossible for a human being not to read the book after reading the prologue, that's how intense it is. To give you an idea what the prologue is about I leave you with this one word MURDER . 3. I love the main character of this book and I'm sure that he's one the characters that I've read that I won't forget. He's very sweet, funny, kind, smart and he's sort of a too good to be true character, to be honest with you guys. It just seems that he has no flaws, he's sooooooo pur-wait for it-fect!. 4. The sex scenes are hilarious. Trust me not repulsive but hilarious and it literally made me ROFLMAOLOLOMGBBQROFLCOPTER! (translation for noobs= rolling on the floor laughing my ass off laughing out loud Oh My Gosh Barbeque! rolling on the floor copter!(copter means helicopter lol, just a dumb way to say something is funny) 5. It has an elephant. I mean who doesn't love Bambi the Elephant (ah sorry wrong character), I mean Dumbo the Elephant? And Rosie the Elephant was as cute as a button Geeeeeeeez, if elephants can be domesticated I'll have an elephant in our house. ![]() ![]() 6. It made me cry (Crybaby that I am, the unrequited love just get to me GRrrrrrrr(hate this book for making me cry) 7. It has also parts wherein Jacob was in a nursing home and I heart those parts of the book. As a student nurse I must say that Sara Gruen really captures the true setting and atmosphere of a nursing home. I also learn a lot of stuff from Jacob's perspective like when he said something about nurses taking no notice of his you know private parts blah blah(too lazy to elaborate just read the book) and I realize that those maybe were the thought of my geriatric clients whenever I change their diapers and they have these really sort of embarrassed, sad face after that and they don't look into your eyes and I guess I kind of understand why they do this by now, by reading this book. 8. Love the ending, the ending was very heartfelt and very happy and sort of sentimental. Cons: 1. The sex scenes were a little bit over the top. 2. There was this scene of Barbara doing a freak show that is very sexual and kind of tips me off. 3. When the author describes some of the circus show it was confusing and hard to imagine at times but I guess those would be really good in the movie. 4. Somehow imagining Robert Pattinson with those over the top, crazy, circus sex scenes disturbed me and I wish the movie would lessen the mature sexual content of the book so that the teenagers can also watch the movie. 5. There are some boring parts specially in the beginning. The beginning lacks conflict and I guess if I'm an impatient reader I have not finish the book. 6. I really hate the "I am pregnant bomb" in a story, ever since I've read Breaking Dawn I really hate it when the girl and the boy will have sex and then the girl will ended up pregnant. I know it's the 1930's and probably condom was not invented yet but idk it still irritates me. 7. I hate Marlena! I usually hate dormats so I guess I'm being myself hating this woman. I'm going to shut up now, just read this *coughs* if you're 18 years old and above! Thoughts Before Reading This ![]() Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V369qZ... And I also heard from one of the reviewer here in Goodreads that this book is as good as Book Thief and honestly I heart heart Book thief! (less) | Notes are private!

It is written in a Third Person POV which puts the reader far from the book and the characters. And I’m not really a fan of Third person and I prefer books with First Person POV. 2. I am annoyed at Connor at first and I don’t know why, I just didn’t like him maybe because of his name which is kinda ugly or because he’s sometimes impulsive and stupid. 3. I can’t help but to compare it with The Island, the movie starring Scarlett Johansson (did I spell that right?). I feel like The Island has a more solid and realistic premise than Unwind because in The Island there are clones and these clones were the one used as donors for the individual who paid for the cloning and because they are clones basically they have the same genetic make up so Organ Rejection on the Organ Transplants are 0%. 4. It just bothers me too that in Unwind all the organs can be transplanted and they should really do this because of this Bill of Life which states that Unwinds are not really killed because they are not really dead, its just that their parts are divided and transplanted to different individuals. So for me it’s unrealistic because there are only organs you can transplant for example I think brains can not be transplanted. However towards the end of the novel I was bitch slap by the author and he did explain it that there’s an invented technology in the novel which is called Neuro-grafting that makes it possible for all the organs to be transplanted and also it is 99.44% transplant from the Unwind to the different individuals because appendix is not transplanted. 5. I also find it hard to believe that there’s a war about Abortion and because of this war, Unwinding was legalized and all the ends meet. And no one as in no one, fight against it. I just find it hard to believe because as the novel says there are two parties Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, I mean they could have at least debated it and what’s the point of two parties if they all just say Aye? Idk, completely unrealistic. 6. Another thing is, in this novel there are what you called Tithes wherein they are the sacrifice of their parents to God. So they have to give their child to be Unwinds and I just think that at present times Religion and Science are always the opposing sides. So I also find again that this is hard to happen in the future, because it should be more realistic if Religion will oppose to unwinding rather than supporting and even giving the Children as tithes. 7. The first half is a little bit boring and it is not that interesting and I am just patiently waiting for something to happen. OMG I can’t believe I have too many rants. So why the 5 stars then huh? So the story picks up second half of the book when they are inside The Graveyard. It reminds me of Kid Nation wherein they have different tasks and then you can’t help it but there are kids that want to lead and then there are kids that they are naturally leaders even if they don’t want to lead. I just love that part; there are doubts, intrigue, secrets etc. I prefer not to give anything away but that part gets me hooked with this book. Also, this is where I started to like Connor and OMG I really like him. He became a mechanic in the Graveyard and I just love it, he’s really bad-ass. I also love the romance sort of between Connor and Rissa and the first kissing scene was like I wanted to rip my hair out and the second kissing scene I was like squealing and I’m stuffing a pillow on my face so my mom won’t hear me. Okay forget I write that...I also have a question for those who have read this book. Clickey the spoiler tag (view spoiler)[At the end of the novel, Risa was paralyzed from the waist down and that made her disabled. She then told Connor that she will not be Unwound because it is not legal for disabled to be Unwound. However in the first part of the novel I think it's Risa who ask someone what if the Unwind was deaf who would want a deaf ear. So my question is that deaf is a disability right, so at the first part of the novel I thought disabled can still become unwinds but at the last part they aren't anymore. So someone explain this to me. (hide spoiler)] Okay WTH I don’t know what else I would say. Now I’m speechless. ……. I just wanted you to know that the last part of this book was really something. You know with what happens to the characters. It was terrible, sick, disgusting, and tragic. And there will be a sequel that is not published yet. Some says that this book could pass as a standalone and given that there’s an open ending. It ended like the problem is not yet solved however there’s still hope at the end of the book. The ending reminds me of Mockingjay actually, a very dark ending but still there is hope for them. (less) | Notes are private!

I don't know how to say this, but this book was certainly one of the books that I had read that left a huge impact on how I should see things. This was definitely one of those that I will always remember and never forget. Truth is the book is depressing, while I'm reading it I'm feeling that the book lacks something and that was "humor." If I have to compare it to My Sister's Keeper wherein there are still dialogues that I've found humorous, this book has none of it. So if you are planning to read this, I better warned you that the book will make you feel depressed, guilty, angry, sick and hateful that you find yourself almost like you're suffocating. There are moments wherein while I'm reading it I felt like having a dejavu because you can relate to the story. In all honesty there might be more of those moments in my life that I was the bully than I was the one being bullied. There is this scene in the book wherein Peter was pants-ed and humiliated in front of the cafeteria and that also happen in my school during High School days wherein a boy from our class suffers the same fate and just like Peter this boy was bullied every day of our whole four years in High School and what I did back then was I laugh at him like Matt, Josie and the others in the story did. When I think about it bullying was a reality, wherein it happens every day and as long as you’re the one not being bullied you don’t care because we are that selfish. I loved that Jodi Picoult tackles controversial issues on her books and what I loved about her is she would give you the different perspectives of a story. Because of it the story was not just in the surface and you will realize that every character was complex, human and they are real, they are not one-dimensional. I learned that one can never judge other person perfectly and without bias and prejudices. As long as you don't have the same experience, you can't understand someone. Maybe you could say that you empathize with the victims who died on the shooting, the victims who are not killed, but their whole lives have changed dramatically wherein they became paralyzed, traumatized or their appearance will not be ever the same because of the scars left by the gun shots. But in the other side you can also empathize with the killer who was being bullied and humiliated physically, emotionally, psychologically all his life. I loved that the book made me think in a different way and not one-sided. I loved that at first I hated the killer, but as the story progress I learn to understand why he did the shooting and I realized that he was biggest victim of this all and how was life was really unfair for him. I also loved the ending of the story unlike My Sister's Keeper wherein I really loathed the ending. I think that she ended it right and I loved that even though the ending was a sad one, but having Alex pregnant I think lessens the sadness of how the story ended because I think that the baby symbolizes a new hope for them. In short, he was a creature made to fly about freely in the sky, bringing joy to everyone who saw him. So now I think that passage from the book already ate up my review so I'll just add some extra things. First: As expected from Paulo Coelho this is another philosophical somewhat self-help, inspirational novel. This book was actually dedicated to a fan named Maurice Gravelines and Coelho met this guy unintentionally when he visited the Grotto in Lourdes. When they met the guy was like "You know, you look just like Paulo Coelho." And then Coelho said that yeah it was really him. And then the guy embraced him and he said to Coelho that, "They(Coelho's books) make me dream." I think that pretty sum up what kind of books Coelho's are. Second: This book actually talks a lot about sex so I really recommend this book to adult readers, 18 years old and above. The novel has some masturbation scenes, BDSM, a blowjob scene etc. It just talks a lot about orgasm and in the other hand it also talks about the sacredness of sex and some history of prostitution blah blah blah. So really, adult readers or if you're sensitive about sex or anything about it maybe this book is not for you. Third: My only complain about this book is that...there's actually a Filipino character in this book and she's a prostitute in the book and she's Maria's friend. My only problem about her is her name which is Nyah. I just really find her name weird and not very quote and quote Filipino. Maybe the author did not have time to research on it but the common names of Filipinos are similar to Spanish names and American names so I just really find it odd that her name's Nyah since it doesn't sound like a Filipino name. Maybe he could just name that character Juana or Ana or Susan but to name her Nyah, it was just odd. *shoulder shrug* Thoughts before Reading Finally this has been available in our library. So many people have been borrowing it, and when I go to the libray its always unavailable. Now it's my time to read it and I'm so excited since one of my classmate really like it and he said that this is his most favorite Coelho book. I'm curious to know why.(less) | Notes are private!

Ronnie was like a character that I can personally relate to and the dialogues are just humorous. It's kinda like predictable but all in all it's really meaningful and highly recommended to all Sparks fans.(less) | Notes are private!

Anna was a genetically engineered baby so that in the future she could be use as a donor for her sister Kate who has leukemia. At first it was only cord blood, then she have to give her after a few years, lymphocytes, granulocytes etc., then a bone marrow transplant. Anna was a little kid then so the decisions in these procedures well of course in her parents' hands. Now that her sister Kate has a kidney failure her mother asked her if she could donate one of her kidneys so that her sister could be save by death. Anna then realizes that she had enough, she wants that she could at least have control over what would be done to her body because in the end, in a long-term run, having one kidney have risks. So Anna decided to sue her parents to have medical emancipation. The conflict in this story was intense because now Anna should consider herself versus her family. Also Anna don't hate her sister Kate and that makes it more hard for her. And while I'm reading this book, I realized that, you know Anna's parents you can not judge them because I think that being a parent it's hard for them because they have to save Kate but it doesn't mean that they don't care for Anna, it's complicated. Nevertheless I think the book shows and explains why does parents have to decide things like that, as I said earlier we can not judge them. And then Anna in the end have succeeded and she became emancipated, she no longer have to donate her kidneys. I love how does it happen in the court room, especially when they point out that this is not a case or whether or not Anna should gave her kidneys but instead Anna having choices and deciding for herself what's good for her body, because that's her body. And then after that, after all the drama, the questioning of the court room, after Anna is finally free, she died on the same day that she was finally free. She died because of a car accident. And I was like what the hell was that? I mean what's the point? It's like when I'm watching Final Destination when all these characters just die in stupid no reason at all way. It's just like that I really don't get what Jodi Picoult wants to point out, maybe because that would make the story unpredictable like "Got you! Bet you didn't see that coming!" or because it makes me sing that Ironic song of Alanis Morisette,"Isn't it Ironic? Don't you think?" or maybe she just want to end it with a bloody heavy drama we've seen in televisions that it's totally cliche. Nevertheless I still recommend it, read it and you'll learn a lot of things. I'm a nursing student and last last year we've discussed this in Health Ethics actually but in truth I learn a lot of things while reading this than when I'm studying this in class. And if you're like a little bit hesitated especially if you don't like drama, drama, drama, there is a minor plot that has a romance in it. So it's drama with a little bit of romance and some of the lines are still humorous but overall it's like a very serious and depressing book.(less) | Notes are private!

The mortal instruments trilogy is one of the best fantasy series that I've read and the city of glass, the last installment of the books is indeed the best among the three. The story progresses and it improve a lot. The setting change from new york to Idris which is great because we finally see what Idris is. The characters enormously change, became mature and we get to know their personality and idealism more. The storyline became darker, the villains in the story are really evil. I love the twists of the story it's very much realistic and acceptable and I don't really have the feeling like they got a major plot hole just to have a twist in the story like what happen in *coughs* Breaking Dawn *coughs*. This story also gave us an epic battle in the end, which somehow reminds me of the battle of Hogwarts with the deadline thingy and the fact that Jace was dead and he in the end was resurrected that reminds me of what happen to Harry as well, when he somehow escape death. Though I must admit that even the strongest factor of this book is the romance, the teenage angst, the fight scenes and the supernatural fiction genre, and to add that this book is very entertaining(won't argue about that). It still amazes me that somehow this book has moral lessons as well. It talks about idealism and humanity, it's reminiscent of Death note and Code Geass wherein true idealism is achieve by trusting with the people's abilities and not by eradicating all mankind. It's also talks about knowing who you really are, where you belong and what family really is. This is just, for me a very great book because reading this is like I'm in a whirlpool of emotions, I laugh, smile, cry, fall in love, horrified, thrilled, etc. It's just feels great to finally finish this series knowing that the characters that I learn to love had a happy ending and it's satisfying now that I know the answers. I just want to say thank you Ms. Clare for introducing me to Jace and Clary's world and I hope that I could read your works in the future. Kudos to you.(less) | Notes are private!

First off I really really love Adrian on this book. I'm so happy that they were together like they were boyfriend-girlfriend now. And I'd tell you this two have chemistry, I'm so Team Adrian. I mean they're hot together, and I think the night that they were together it was really sexy and it was also funny. I'd also love the Lissa-Christian parts, they're so funny and cute when they're like practicing how to stake a strigoi. I'm so happy that at the end they came back together again. Oh I love Christian! and I'm quite surprise that in this book I'd love Lissa too, and I think she grows in this one and became strong. I'd also love the first part when they help Victor escape from Tarasov it kind of remind me of the tv series Prison Break. The part that I'd really really hate was when Dimitri was turn to damphir again and he's like all "Lissa save me and stay away from me Rose." Like I really really want to kick his butt. After all that Rose did for him, he's like a different person and he said he don't love Rose anymore and all that crap. I really hate him. I'd also like at the end that the plot is not all about romance and we had like treason and politics going on. I still can't believe that Tatiana's dead and that Rose is the primary suspect and all that. I guess that maybe a traitor from one of the royal families did it, like my guess would be Adrian's father or Victor Dashkov. I'm looking forward in meeting Lissa's halfsister/brother on the next book. Also more Rose-Adrian moments and I'd like Sydney to come out next time too, I really miss her. I'd really love this series, way better than twilight and I'd also recommend if you'd like this series, you'd better try the House of Night which was IMO the second best vampire series. Quotes: Out of all the people who would attempt to rescue me, I would never have expected you two... (Victor Dashkov to Rose and Lissa) This is it, a small voice inside her whispered. This is where I die (Lissa) Eternity will be lonely without you. (Dimitri to Rose) She wasn't alone. I was with her all night. (Adrian to Daniella, Lissa and Christian) Because I need you to be bait for Rose. (Dimitri to Lissa and Christian) There's nothing more between you and me. (Dimitri to Rose) Don't touch her. Stay back, they aren't laying a hand on you (Dimitri to Rose)(less) | Notes are private!
