Since I buy them the day they come out I then have to wait for the paperback release in order to have these precious novellas. But as a mega fan who has thrown parties, owns three shirts, and bought the special edition of the Lightening Thief I have to own them. I am sure that I will have to buy them again when there are enough to make a book of short stories. I will gripe but I will hand over my money.
This was an amazing short story, I honestly feel like I have to go back and read all, and I mean ALL, of the books. If you're a fan these short stories are excruciating because they make you hunger for Riordan to do a full fledged series of Greeks, and Egyptians. WANT NEED MUST(less)

A basic understanding of a little bit of Egyptian mythology, magic, and the gods. It's a great little addition and I'm so happy I found it for a dollar at a book sale, because there was no way I was going to pay like $12 for this. I'm ridiculously happy I have this though because I truly and honestly love Riordan and want him to continue writing books. (less)
Wonderful and totally amazing I was so happy to read this, though I honestly wish it was it's own full book. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Basically Percy and Carter meet up because they both are investigating a giant crocodile.
If you get the paperback edition of Serpent's Shadow you also get this story. I hate being punished for buying a book early. I bought the book when it came out paid the full price and because of that I am being punished and have to pay more for the short story, on top of the extra I paid when it was a hardback. BLERG

Jason finds himself speaking latin, has an SPQR tattoo, and doesn't remember anything beyond his muscle memories of being able to fight.
Piper has to do more and more to get her ridiculously famous father to talk and interact with her. His love of her mother makes him a soft soul, and she has been having nightmares saying that she has to betray her new friends to save her father.
Leo's mother died in a fire, he has the ability to control fire, and everyday he feels the ironic hand of fate. He can build, fix and create anything but finds himself lost in the background to the super fighter that is Jason.
Can these three heroes find the missing goddess when the earth itself seems to be fighting against them?

At first I was a little cranky about the seemingly random combinations and side trips we had to take through out the book. Then I realized this book is about the journey and the next one is about the destination.
So amazing, wonderful, Son of Neptune is still my favorite but this one is really making the story come together. I'm hoping in House of Hades we get some of Nico's perspective, and I seriously can't wait for that book to come out. (less)

Starting out on a recon mission Percy, Thalia, Annabeth, and Grover are at a military boarding school trying to extract two powerful half bloods. Of course something has to go wrong, and Artimis and her hunters show up. They are an elite immortal hunting team of maidens 9-15 years of age. She senses something is stirring and tells her huntresses to go with Percy back to camp.
He starts having nightmares about what happened to Annabeth and swears to find her. Mixing original Greek Mythology with the times, Riordan again takes us on a journey across America. If you know your Greek Myths you are definitely going to laugh when Apollo tries to hit on Thalia. And you would wonder what kind of monster needs Tylenol and heating pads?

What happens when some of them are considered monsters? Percy has been having a great school year...for him. It's his last day of school and all he has to do is finish his exams. The only friend he's made is Tyson, he's large easily scared, and has some development problems. Percy is the only person in the whole school who stands up for him and protects him. When he starts having nightmares about his best friend Grover, then monsters attack, and Annabeth shows up Percy knows something is going on at camp.
Thalia's tree has been poisoned and the camp's borders are being threatened by monsters, Chiron has been fired and the new activities coordinator is prisoner #1 from Hades. Again Riordan takes the old myths and stories of the ancient Greeks and updates them.Percy and his friends have to sail through the Sea of Monsters, the same one that Odysseus had to sail to get home. With clever and fun twists on stories like the Hydra, and the Bermuda triangle Riordan creates a world that makes anything seem possible.
Can they save the camp, rescue Grover, and get back before Thalia's tree dies? Will Annabeth give in to her deepest wishes?

This is a book that I love. I will read this series again and again. Following the story of Percy as he discovers that the Greek gods are real and they are now here in America. He has been accused of stealing from Zeus and is sent out to find his master lightening bolt before the Winter solstice. Along the way he and his two friends have to navigate the monsters that have also come with the Greek gods. With a smile Riordan takes us into updated modern versions of those classics.
An absolutely amazing series and this one sets the sometimes serious, usually a side of fun mixed with wit. Percy is a hero that children who have behavioral issues, or just feel a little like an outcast can relate to.
For boys and girls third grade on up this is a series that can get reluctant readers into reading.
------------------------------------------------------- I love this book. Trapped in it from beginning to end. I laughed throughout. A short summary because I think that you need to read it. IT IS NOT HARRY POTTER
A young boy finds out that the Greek Gods and Goddesses are real. Now he has to help find something that was stolen from the gods before there is a disastrous fight amongst them. Percy along with his friends travels across America to find the stolen item. Along the way you meet up with different gods, goddesses, and monsters. If you know the stories you will love this series.
I love this book, and for everyone who whines "This is Harry Potter" no you are terribly wrong this is NOT harry potter. This series can be read by a third grader who is able to read them all. Whereas HP can only be read by younger kids until the fourth book where the entire series gets too dark, depressing, and deals with things like making out, killing of children, and practical rape of a muggle woman. Percy on the other hand stays true to the audience that it sells to and has an ending that all can be happy with. The same cannot be said for HP. At no point in time did I stop and think, this should not be in the children's section. Nor did I ever stop to think, this is a terrible book for a child to read. I recommend this book to everyone. Though it is especially good for
-boys who don't want to read -fantasy lovers -Mythology enthusiasts -everyone who can read
I have not found one person who doesn't love this series. These books are meant to be devoured and shared. A book you will not regret.(less)
