CATCHING FIRE is absolutley as good as THE HUNGER GAMES and it is just as powerful and suspenseful. I had no idea where the story would go after the previous events, and I was thrilled, surprised and delighted at the direction it went when i read it. I will not give details, but I will say that I coudn't put it down. This series WILL be a future classic. I tip my hat and bow to Suzanne Collins, but only after I thank her from the bottom of my heart for bringing such an amazing story to life.(less)

If you like a rapturous, bittersweet romance, you MUST read this book. Just repeat after me, "SHIVER". Keep saying it over and over so that you remember to pick this book up when it comes out in August. It's a GREAT way to beat the heat.
When Grace was younger, she was attacked by a pack of wolves. Somehow, even though it doesn't seem possible, one of the wolves in the pack saved her from the rest. Every winter since, this wolf has watched Grace, and she has become obsessed with him. He is her wolf, her protector. He is Sam. Sam is no ordinary wolf, nor is he a man. He is both. When the weather becomes warm, Sam takes on a human form. He has never approached Grace before because of what he is, but a tragedy will force him into her world. Once they finally come together, their lives will never be the same and they will always be a part of each other. The sad truth is that they may not have much time together. As the weather grows cold they must face the possibility of living without one another. This book will make you say "Jacob WHO?"

Actually, I adore Elizabeth Scott. I want to take her home and hug her and squeeze her and make her write awesome books forever and ever! But seriously, I really do enjoy everything she puts out, and Something, Maybe is no exception. I love how she creates such realistic characters that you can't help but care about. This is a sweet love story that has a touch of bitterness, but it will leave you with you smile. It's like a delicious piece of dark chocolate.
Hannah just wants to blend in. That is nearly impossible since her mother is a former TV star who is milking every ounce of fame she can by doing webcasts in her underthings, and her deadbeat father is a celebrity known for his parties and women. All her life she has kept herself hidden, but no matter how hard she tries, soemhow the drama finds her and leaves her a social pariah every time. She has a crush on a guy who is way out of her league and it seems like he may finally be noticing her but she can't keep another guy out of her mind. Her life is a disaster and it just keeps making things worse by the day. Perhaps Hannah will learn a thing or two about what is important and who she really needs. (less)

I can honestly say I have never read anything like it and I was absolutly delighted and enchanted by it. Unique seems to be the word of choice to describe EYES LIKE STARS, and I have to agree. I'd prefer beautifully unique. I'm not sure anything I say could possibly explain the book, but I think that's part of what makes it so good. I'll try, but I promise not to spoil anything!
Beatrice Shakespeare Smith, Bertie for short, lives in the Theatre Illuminata, which exists in a magical world of it's own. The players are thier parts. She crosses paths with Queens and Mermaids and her closest friends are three wisecracking fairies. Even though she lives here, she doesn't quite fit in because she isn't part of any play, she just is. She was left here as a child and she lives as an orphan. The players have accepted her, but her feisty and rebellious attitude is about to get her into major trouble. The Theatre Manager has had enough of her and he threatens to throw her out on her behind. Bertie has nowhere to go and she doesn't want to leave so she makes a deal with him that might save her from eviction. If Bertie can prove that she is a vital and contributing member of the Theatre, she can stay. This is easier said than done. She decides to restage one of the plays in another time period and setting which causes the players to get confused and forget their lines. She also has a very crazy Ophelia to deal with who is constantly trying to drown herself, a feud between the Prop Department and the Scenery Department brewing and she's caught in the middle of a love tringle involving a handsome Pirate and a mischevious Airy Spirit. But even all of this chaos can't stop the true magic around Bertie from revealing itself and changing her life forever.

Mary lives in a village deep within the Forest of Hands and Teeth. This small village is, as far as everyone knows, mankinds last stronghold. Fences surround the streets and houses keeping back hordes of "Unconsecrated", who desperately want to get inside and infect the remaining humans. Their hunger and tenacity is terrifying, but it is a part of life that the people of the village must live with. All her life, Mary has heard tales from the Outside, from before the fences went up. Her mother told her of something called an Ocean and of buildings that touched the sky. She wants to believe that these things do truly exist, but it becomes more difficult every day as she feels the encroachment of the fences and her duties as a member of society. Mary's dreams become even more elusive after the loss of a life and a love. Just as she is about to give in to her fate and lose hope, a disaster strikes her village and she is forced to make a desperate escape into the unkown darkness of The Forest of Hands and Teeth. She and a small group of survivors are now in a race for survival that does not promise to lead all of them to safety. Mary is about to learn the true meanings of hope, faith, love and most of all, pain.
I recommend this to those who enjoyed The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. (less)

It's set in an oddly realistic world where monsters of all sorts exist and they are very scary. Fans of the TV show Supernatural will love this book.
Dru and her father are Hunters. They move from town to town killing the things that shouldn't exist, and trust me, there are a lot of them. Dru has a gift that allows her to "see" these things, so she's been tagging along with her father ever since her mothers death when she was a child. It's a tough life for a teenager to lead, but it's not like she's ever fit in with normal people. The life of a Hunter has given Dru a tough-as-nails attitude and a distrust of most everyone she meets. One night after a zombie leaves her alone and running for her life, she reluctantly accepts the help of a classmate, who she promptly gets into deep otherworldly trouble. With this new ally, Dru must survive the attacks of grizzly beasts and creepy creatures as well as figure out why they are after her in the first place. It's a good thing she's well armed. It's going to get pretty messy, no matter what.
Lili St. Crow creates not only a book, but an experience. She uses all five senses to fully immerse readers in Dru's world. She even makes you feel like you've got a tingly sixth sense and that's what keeps you furiously turning the pages. Dru is a great character with a snarky and fun voice. I would recommend this not only to teens, but to adults as well. It's a finely crafted Urban Fantasy that will please any fan of the genre, as well as fans of her other works (she is also Lilith Saintcrow, author many Urban Fantasy novels including The Dante Valentine series).
The sequel, BETRAYALS will be released in November, 2009. (less)

The atmosphere is hauntingly charming and fully imagined. I loved the book and I love Rosemary Clement-Moore. I was a fan of her previous books, and this one is completely diferent, but just as captivaing, if not more so. THE SPLENDOR FALLS is a departure form her usual supernatural humor (PROM DATES FROM HELL, HELL WEEK and HIGHWAY TO HELL) and is more on the spooky and serious side. She did an excellent job transitioning and her style is still prevalent. Most of all, she is a wonderful story teller is able to create characters that instantly endear readers.
Sylvie was a ballerina with a very bright future. That is, until The Accident. She broke her leg while on stage and in an instant her entire future as a famous dancer vanished. Her entire life is crumbling around her family begins to doubt her sanity. In order to get away from it all, her newly remarried mother arranges for Sylvie to leave her home in Manhattan and spend some time with her deceased father's family in Alabama. Talk about a whole new world. It's as if time decided to stand still and there are echoes of the past everywhere. Some of them are not quite pleasant though. Sylvie is convinced that she is seeing ghosts, but there is no way she can tell anyone. They already think she's going crazy. They are acting like when she broke her leg, her mind snapped with it. With all of the strange things going on, who knows? Maybe it did. Except that she knows these things are, or were, real and the only person who might believe her, Rhys, is a visitor to the town himself. With his help perhaps Sylvie can uncover the mysteries of this small town before someone gets hurt. It doesn't help that she's being persued by a smooth talking Southern gentleman and his pack of Teen Town Council members and she's also made an enemy out of one it's most powerful members. At least Sylvie finds comfort in taking care of the garden by her Aunts house, but even that may have something to do with all the malevolent spirits she keeps running into. And this was supposed to be restful? Harldy. But it is interesting and promises quite an adventure and a lesson in history and magic. She'll even learn a lot about who she is and who and what she can be in life as she puts to rest her own echoes of the past.(less)

Kendall and her family move from the big city of Chicago to a small town in Georgia. After leaving her friends and what seems like all of civilization behind she now has to be the new girl. It's obvious she won't be winning any popularity contests here, but she does find a few friends, quirky though they may be. Oh, and her new town also seems to be haunted and she is a beacon for all of these restless spirits. This awakening of her psychic abilities wouldn't be so bad if her ultra-religious mother would only understand what is happening to her and not accuse her of talikng to the devil. At least Kendall has a group of friends who are willing to help her become a ghost hunter. She's even got a cute guy to be the resident skeptic of the group. Now if only there wasn't some crazy ghost trying to kill her father. Looks like it's a job for Kendall Morrehead and her trusty ghosthunters.
This book is suspenseful, spooky, mysterious and even has a budding romance. I look forward to the next book in the series.
The only thing that I found a little odd about this book is that there are some odd product placements in it. It almost makes you wonder if there is a corporate sponsor for the series. While it did puzzle me a bit, it still was not enough for me to mark down the rating since I loved the story and the characters so much. I just hope that the next books are a little lighter on the not-so-subliminal advertisements. All in all, a fantastic book though. (less)

It is a delightful story about true love and fairy deception.
Morgan and Cam have been together literally since the day they were born. They live next door to each other and they have been in love since they were children. Thier pairing is a bit strange since Cam is the Quarterback for the football team and Morgan is slightly less popular and known for her psychic abilities. Morgan has never seen her own future, but she has no doubts that it will involve Cam. They are, and always have been meant to be. One, two, three (that's how they say "I love you" to each other).
Everything is going amazing until Morgan notices a change in Cam, which leads her to take a peek into his future. What she sees is not what she expects, and what she discovers is even more unbelievable. Morgan finds out that Cam is an honest to goodness Fairy. Yup, the winged and magical kind that until this moment, she thought did not exist. Well, why not? She's a psychic, so why wouldn't there be Fairies? If this isn't bad enough, Cam has been called back to the Otherworld to take over the throne and become King of the Fairies. How can this be when he belongs here with her? After all, their love is the stuff of actual Fairy Tales. Isn't it?
As Cam trains for his entry into the Otherworld, Morgan decides to do everything she can to keep him here with her. The only problem is that Cam is changing, physically and mentally and Morgan is getting closer to Pip, Cam's "replacement." Pip is an odd one, but he's lived amongst the Fairies his entire life. After a makeover and a little time to adjust to the real world, he's kind of hot. He's also very valiant, and he will do anything to help Morgan and Cam, in the name of true love. This unusual trio has a lot of work to do if they want to change the future and give this story a happy ending.

This is a perfect summer read, or just perfect for when you wish it could be summer. So grab yourself a sweet tea and plunge into SEA CHANGE.
Miranda Merchant has just left New York City to spend the summer on the small Southern island of Selkie. Her rather eccentric grandmother passed away leaving Miranda's mother her house here and from the moment Miranda arrives, she knows that this is going to be a very strange summer.
The island itself is almost frozen in time. There are no cars allowed and there seems to be an air of Southern hospitality. Selkie has a rich and mysterious history that the residents seem very proud of. Along with this, Miranda begins to notice that there is also a distinct separation between the classes. She meets her neighbors, who are very well off and a bit on the snobby side. They all dress well and have impeccable manners, which makes her feel a little self conscious in her "comfortable" clothing and "casual" attitude. Miranda is more into science than fashion, but these people seem nice, so she does her best to fit in.
Things appear to be going well enough, but Miranda can't help but think that there is more to this island than meets the eye. It all begins with an old book she finds in the library of her grandmothers house that tells tales of a fantastical sort, explaining the true origin of the islands inhabitants. She is certain that there are deep secrets hidden on the sandy shores of Selkie, but she has no idea that what she is about to dig up may effect her for the rest of her life. While she is searching for the truth, she meets a gorgeous local boy who may hold the key to unlocking her heart as well as truth about her own family's history. But only by understanding the past can Miranda and her mother change the course of their futures.
This is a beautifully written and romantic coming of age story that will completely transport you into the pages. I swear, I felt the Sea Breeze ruffling my hair and smelled the salt water. It could have been the air conditioner blowing on me, but I doubt it. I think the chills I got were from the amazing and vivildy drawn story. (less)

Alison is the IT girl of the moment. She just became freshman class president, she the star of her own reality TV show and everyone loves her. The machine she's in gets struck by lightning and she now has the power to shoot fire from her hands. Fortunately, she now has a new ability. Unfortunately, she can't control it and her social life literally goes up in flames. She was once on top of the world and now the only person who will talk to her is dorky David who is obsessed with her new superpower. He convinces Alison to assume a secret identity, put on a snazzy costume and fight the evil-doers of Beverly Hills. He's even delighted when an honest-to-goodness super-villain shows up! Alison now has to juggle her superduties, school and her growing crush on, of all people, a hot firefighter. Well, at least they have something in common.
