A witch by birth, Justine discovers that a spell has kept her from finding love. Breaking the spell, however, sets forth a dangerous series of events.
I loved the other three books, but this one wasn't as good for me. It is hot and steamy, but I found myself frustrated with the main characters too often. Still it is a good romance, and people who have followed the series will enjoy it. ...more

Unfortunately, she is a lady and her parents have planned that she will marry the queen and become the next Queen of Hearts. Then at a ball she meets the mysterious court jester Jest and falls in love. She knows her parents won't approve, and she doesn't want to offend the king, but she longs to follow her heart. Fate has other plans.
This book falls as a prequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In this books we get a peek at the origin stories of many of the familiar characters, but most especially, the Queen of Hearts. It is interesting to see who these characters were before Alice's adventures. I love how Meyer develops her characters and makes you feel their passion. She still manages to hold on to the whimsy of Wonderland and make the story true to the original. Loved it!...more

Meanwhile, she and her sister have grown apart. Something is wrong with Greta, but June doesn't know what.
This was a complex story. It is very literary and will be great for discussion groups. I think my rating reflects that the book was a bit more melancholy than I usually like my reading to be, but still that is appropriate for the topic. In this novel you have children growing up too soon, and adults who aren't there to witness it. Still it is a well written and interesting book....more

After a bitter divorce from a wife who didn't love him anyway, he has been jaded and drinking too much. Zoe's husband left her for another man, and she has no interest in love anymore. When Zoe's grandmother has to move in with her because she can no longer take care of herself, Zoe hires Alex to remodel the cottage at Dream Lake so they can live there. As the two get to know each other, they also begin to change each other, and maybe time can open a closed heart to a new love. With a ghost whose connection to Zoe's grandmother Emma keeps drawing them together, these two don't stand a chance apart.
Okay, not my best summary ever.... I hate writing summaries.
This was a charming romance. I did enjoy the ghostly element, though couldn't help but wonder if the people around Alex thought he was losing his mind. I wasn't really sure how this romance would work at first. Alex was so hard, coarse, and troubled, I wasn't sure a relationship with him would be possible. Still Zoe softened his edges and made him a more appealing leading man. I loved how he looked out for Emma, Zoe's Grandmother. Charming romance with a ghost--this was a fun read. ...more

The ones I do give out, are usually because the book was impossible for me to put down. That is the case with Uprooted. It has been a long time since I finished a 400+ page book in less than a week--let alone 3 days. I simply couldn't get enough this novel. I loved the fantasy and the magic. She created a world that was completely amazing and I didn't want to leave.
This novel beautifully blends fairy tales into an amazing story. The characters are heartwarming and you really like Agnieszka's spunk. She doubts herself and finds herself wanting in comparison to her beautiful friend Kasia, but she has an amazing strength that she doesn't realize she has until pushed. This read like a fairy tale and was completely charming. You find yourself cheering for Agnieszka no matter what she is attempting to accomplish. Dark and light at the same time--this book keeps the pages turning....more

They are both the excecutive assistants to the co-CEOs of the publishing company they work for. Lucy and Josh are constantly trying to one up each other, and have been to HR for grievances more times than either can count. Now they are up for the same promotion, but sometimes there is more to hating than you know. Sometimes hating changes to something else.
The only reason this book didn't get a higher rating from me it because it was a little too slow in the beginning. I liked the romance and so much of the book was the hating, it wasn't as fun for me as it would have been otherwise. It really didn't pick up for me until the paintball game. Still this is a fun romance and an interesting read. ...more

This year is Hermione's year to be the team captain and she wants her team to win. While at the summer cheer-leading camp someone slips Hermione a date rape drug and the next thing she knows she is waking up in a hospital. She doesn't want people to think about her only as the girl who was raped. Determined to not to let her attack define who she will be, Hermione sets out to live her life the way she wants.
I have to admit I really admired the heroine of this novel. She made choices and chose to take back her life instead of letting it be taken from her. Hermione is a strong female character which I really appreciate in a novel, but that didn't undermine the severity of her situation. This was a hard book, any book about rape would be. While the knowledge and scattered memories of the attack will undoubtedly remain, I love how Hermione determined that she would look forward not back. This book tackled a tricky subject and handled it with tact. ...more

Still something is pulling them together.
This book blends a light amount of magic with realism for a perfectly charming romance. I read the first book in the Friday Harbor series and liked it so I wanted more. I love the island setting and the small town. The nice thing about this book is that it isn't necessary to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one. Reading book one will give you some details about the side characters and especially Sam's family, but feel free to pick this one up even if you haven't read the others. I loved the character and the romance. Sam and Lucy make a great couple. I will definitely give book three a chance. ...more

I didn't realize until my mother pointed it out that it was actually based on the book Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. So immediately I downloaded a copy to read it. As with most book to movie versions, the book was much better--what can I say I like the extra details. Movies inevitably change things and this one did, but both were satisfying. I loved the characters, the brothers and their relationship with Holly. Alex is the only brother that is really different in the book. Still I love the book and the characters, and now that I know it is a series, I can't wait to read more. A sweet romance and fun Christmas read....more

Many were attacked by the Red Death a plague that devastated the Citizens. Other residents of Gabriel live safely in the luxury of the Dome who trade with the Citizens. When Leica commits the ultimate sin, stealing, she is exiled to the desert where she finds an abandoned shuttle.
This was an interesting read with some surprising twists and turns. Knowing who to trust and believe became difficult at parts. Leica is a strong heroine in this novel. Her theft was not what would normally be considered theft—it was theft by the definition of her community and their religious beliefs. Her mother scavenged some items from the form colony and kept them—which is considered theft. Leica was caught while trying to get rid of those items and accused of the crime and banished. After her banishment Leica survives learning the rules of the desert. Later after discovering an earth shuttle, she finds herself invited into the dome by Edison. There she will be a Kisaeng, a concubine. This is her chance to find out what is going on.
Fast paced and interesting. Like I said, this book has some twist the reader may be unprepared for. Still, it is a great science fiction, with a strong likable female main character.
