BLOOD RUSH is the much-anticipated sequel to BLEEDING HEARTS, and I must say, this was even better than the first! Advice columnist and newly appointed spiritual leader of the Demivampires, Sophie Galen, has her hands full in this book. She has her day job to contend with, as well as writing advice to those DV who reach out to her for help. Then she has a stalker who keeps her busy finding new apartments. Not to mention the trouble with her ex and his family, who've basically abandoned her for about a year before this story starts because of their own issues. Sophie is a woman tormented. The pain of abandonment, loneliness, loss and serious insecurity about a position where she's learning as she goes about what's needed to help the DV take a toll on her in this one. And Marek. Oh, Marek... I grieved with Sophie so much I wanted to reach into these pages and give her a hug. Luckily, Rodrian helped out with that a bit. He's Marek's brother, and quickly becoming a favorite character of mine. But despite all that, Sophie is strong. She doesn't let the bad business of her past stop her from doing what she thinks is right. Although she struggles, she's determined to not only help herself, but those around her, even her ex.
Ms. Krafton's writing style is addictive. Quirky and spirited, even during the dark moments, I heard Sophie's distinct voice throughout. From the very first line to the very last paragraph, this is a page-turning read. The depth of these characters drew me quickly into the story and I was reluctant to set this book down to attend to my daily chores, like eating and sleeping. Now that I'm finished, I simply cannot wait for the next book! If you enjoy paranormal with a hint of romance or urban fantasy set in a believable world, then I think this book might be for you!...more

This one is filled with both black magic concerning demons and the white magic of witches. Add in a few vampires and its a great combination for a fun paranormal read. The characters really took on their personalities making them feel like real people. So much so that even as I was rooting for Cassie and Sam, I was also irritated with some of their decisions. But that only made me turn the pages faster to find out what happened to them next! I truly enjoyed reading this story, and I look forward to reading future books in this series. I would love to see the romance blossom between the main characters. Ms. Mead also has me intrigued with the secondary characters and how the future will play out for them. I only wish this story had been written in first person POV. For the most part this is Cassie's story, but I would have loved to see it completely through her eyes to add to the level of suspense. ...more

BLEEDING HEARTS hooked me from the very first page. I loved Sophie’s wit, sarcasm and bravery. She handled things a bit better than I would have in the same situation! Marek’s overwhelming darkness drew me to him. He was sexy, dark and oh, so dangerous! The mythology behind the vampires in this urban fantasy was something I haven’t read before and I loved the Egyptian angle. Sophie pulled me into her world and I was reluctant to part with it in the end (luckily there is a sequel!). The anguish these characters go through really pulled at my heart, making this a very emotional story, not only for Sophie and Marek but also the other characters I fell in love with, like Jared and Rodrian. This novel is filled with light and dark, good and evil, and a love that is tested beyond all limits. Ash Krafton’s writing is amazing and I simply cannot wait to read the next book in this series. ...more

I really liked this book, but there were a few things that held me back from giving it a higher rating. Now, of course, this is my opinion and others may feel differently.
One of the things that bothered me was the info dump at the beginning. Lexie reflects what has happened in the past year of her life to get readers up to speed on the storyline. It felt a little slow and forced there, but then went warp speed when Lexie and Torin kiss within moments of meeting each other. Their relationship was beautiful (I love the fated destiny) but at that moment, she doesn’t know about his world or anything at all about him, and it seemed a little unbelievable for her to act in such a way.
Other than that, the story line was excellent. The plot was interesting and compelling. And I enjoyed meeting the characters and learning about their families, life and friends. Torin’s anguish over the future and Lexie’s worry over her mother and sister really pulled at my heart. And the mystery surrounding Lexie’s new step-family kept me turning the pages. I really wanted to know how Lexie would deal with them, their secrets, and their extremely odd behaviors.
Despite the very few drawbacks, this novel was entertaining. It is filled with mystery, horror and romance, as well as some great action scenes, an intoxicating blend for this paranormal romance reader. The synopsis pulled me in with its mysterious description of the story and the cover art is beautiful. I would like to read more of this author’s work, especially the future books of this series. ...more

Accused of being a black witch, she's been shunned by the Coven. Now she's running and fighting for her life as they try to lobotomize her. I always enjoy reading about Rachel Morgan. Kim Harrison's writing is fast-paced, full of detail and leaves me breathless. I get completely sucked into her world, hating the moments I have to step away to do stuff like eat and sleep. And, predictably, I was hooked from the very first scene of Rachel in Algaliarept's kitchen, learning to twist a curse. Black Magic Sanction also brought back a character I've been longing to see again ever since I was first introduced to Rachel Morgan. Pierce has been a favorite of mine since he was introduced as a ghost in Ms. Harrison's short story, Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel from the anthology Holidays Are Hell. Although he appeared again in White Witch, Black Curse, I was happy to learn more about him and his past in this story. And then there's Al. I have a soft spot in my heart for this deadly demon. Maybe it's his British accent? Whatever it may be, I enjoy the power struggle between Rachel and her demon teacher. And Jenks! My favorite pixie! Oh! Prepare yourself! I try not to give spoilers, but get your tissues ready for this one!
