As with the majority of previous Wells novels, the account of Prendrick's errie and perilous incarceration on Moreaus' peculiar island contains more than a fragment of ethical and moral discourse, placing this book on par with Mary Shelley's Frankenstien in terms of scientific ethical poignancy. This is all in spite of its Victorian origin.
However, the apparent ethical and philosophical dialogue cannot and should not deter from the fantastic and enticing storytelling. The reader is at all times, left in a state of anticipation and trepadition eager for the plot to continue and reach a conclusion.
Being relatively short, H.G. Wells' novel is both concise and easily accessible for a multitude of readers. Yet it remains simultaneously deep, evocative and engaging. Highly reccomended science fiction. (less)

Now with some background on the author I was in a better position to review and get to grips on how the man wrote his fiction. I can say with ease that Cat's Cradle was both entertaining and stark. Kurt Vonnegut's writing style is brisk with no unneeded baggage which resulted in me reading this through in one sitting. Bonus.
Although the characters aren't rich or detailed, that is beside the point. Vonnegut offers a compelling story based on journalism and hilarious religious metaphor; Bokononism. Vonnegut, being Vonnegut offers poignant pseudo-political views throughout satirising the arms race and nuclear armament. (less)
