The zombie apocalypse started about 5 years before when the story was set and most of the story happens in some fortified town that is filled with crazy people. The "hero" is one of the people who helped start the town, he is a mean selfish person who I didn't really like but did one good thing in the book - he saved the heroine when she needed help. The heroine is pretty crazy for at least half of the book, she survived on her own for awhile before being brought to this town against her will. She is paranoid and keeps rubbing herself in her own poop and filth to "keep the bitters away" even though she is in the fortified town. Yes I understand how someone might not be totally sane after the zombie apocalypse but I really don't enjoy reading about a heroine who rubs crap all over herself for whatever reason.
My main issue with the book is that nobody is very likable and most of the people are mean, homicidal jackasses. The "hero" has rough skeevy sex all the time with a total bitch named Liz (also the "heroine" in the next book) who likes to throw people into a ring with walkers and keeps trying to get the heroine killed. Eventually this stops once he and the heroine finally get together so it wasn't cheating but the sex scenes with Liz were off putting because she was such a psycho bitch.
The relationship between the hero and heroine is pretty nice, we see the hero come to care about the heroine despite his very hard personality. That is probably the highlight in the book.
Overall, it's an interesting story but too filled with crazy unlikable people. I want to root for someone and the best I could do was the heroine who was out of her mind pretty often. The ending was HFN which I am okay with because HEA doesn't seem realistic in the zombie apocalypse. I do wish we had a better idea of how the leads were going to survive in the long term, their situation at the end was okay but they would eventually need to find a more livable place with more supplies....more

The romance was so bland, it was missing the sexual tension and passion I am used to from this author. The hero in particular was disappointing, normally her heroes are 100% head over heels for the heroine as soon as they meet them. Instead, he humped and dumped her when she was a virgin college freshman, then thinks she is decent when he meets her again - I just didn't see him having an intense attraction to her, she seemed more convenient which is not what I want in a LMR book....more

I didn't like this one as much as the first one. The author makes the heroine soooo perfect that everyone else, including the bikers, looks like idiots. She was basically a biker romance Mary Sue, she can ride better than you, shoot better than you, her hacking skills can rule the world, she is a tough bitch, she always says and does the right thing - well basically she is perfect. I got sick of that and the way the hero felt he couldn't measure up (who could?). ...more

The author was trying to create a Cruel Intentions type high school story and it was interesting but the execution and story needed to be better. The characters were caricatures of the stereotypical high school personalities, everything was so over the top but the characters had no depth and so much was unrealistic. The story is told in first person from the heroine's POV but I feel like we don't learn much about her. She is pretty crazy through out the story, she runs a couple hours a day (yeah hours), barely talks to anyone and seems to need some therapy. The brothers, Mason and Logan, are supposed to be these hot shot guys who are rich and get any girls they snap their fingers at even if they have a boyfriend. Every girl except the heroine just tries to sleep with any guy she can find but especially Mason and Logan because they are just too cool.
On one hand, the story was fairly interesting but it could have been much better if the characters had any depth and if the story was in any way realistic instead of some strange over the top high school soap opera. I am not sure if I will read the next book in the series, I am just not sure what else it will be about except more girls wanting to screw Mason (even though the heroine is now "with" him), more stupid parties, more of the heroine running 3 hours a day, more of basically fade to black love scenes (I am not a fan), more of her crazy Mom and other weird adults, more of the heroine fighting with every girl she sees. Eh we will see....more

I also found it hard to believe he never got caught killing someone because despite what we are told he doesn't seem to be all that subtle or sneaky when doing it. The romance was okay but not very exciting. Honestly I was kind of bored with the story then by the end wasn't impressed by the hero when he turned on so many people (including once where his own cousin died and he doesn't seem to care at all)....more

The author really needs to work on giving details of side characters if they are going to be part of the story, it's so confusing when the story acts like we know things we were never told.
The main characters' relationship was decent, they were cute together but I just don't buy that a Russian mob boss would act like Danill, when is he ever doing anything mob related? He just seems to hang out in his house with all of his adult kids, the heroine and her kooky parents and he and the heroine act a bit like teenagers. There were parts of the story I liked but a few that annoyed me. I will probably read the next one just to find out what happens but I though the $4.99 price tag a bit much for what I got in this story so hopefully the next one is cheaper....more
Tyrant is the continuation of the story from King. I would say both of these stories are entertaining but not exactly great. My issues with Tyrant areTyrant is the continuation of the story from King. I would say both of these stories are entertaining but not exactly great. My issues with Tyrant are that the leads spend most of the book apart and the heroine takes too long to gain her memory. The violence is also over the top, it seemed like the author just wanted to shock you. I found it hard to believe that the "tyrant" would act so normal then suddenly go so crazy and act he way he did. I also did not understand at all why King surrendered to him toward the end, there were three people there who could have easily overpowered the person so yet again the violence seemed to be over the top and completely unnecessary for the story.
A weaker 4 stars from me for this book but I will read the next one with Bear because it did keep my attention....more

I plan on reading the rest of the books in the series as I enjoyed the story and and the author's writing style.
The book lost a star for a couple reasons. The book was LONG. I am glad for a nice fleshed out story but some of the descriptions and details were a bit unnecessary. There were also a ton of flashbacks, I felt like they took up half the story. The last issue is the creep factor about the main couple's relationship that seemed pushed in our face the entire book - that the hero was 13 years older than the heroine, they had a father/daughter relationship than morphed into love when she was around 17. It was kind of skeezy but I could have gotten over it more if it wasn't brought up so often. Overall I still enjoyed the romance and story though, I felt like the couple belonged together....more

- The hero is in the Russian mafia and supposedly great at finding information about people - yet he somehow can't find anything out about the heroine and doesn't realize she has a child. Meanwhile they are supposedly watching her and keeping her safe - yet somehow never notice a 12 year old boy coming in and out of her place. Huge plot hole.
- The story makes such a big deal about how dominant the hero is and how he is kinky and all this crap, then when we finally have a sex scene after waiting most of the book, I just thought "is that it?". Don't build up a supposedly sexy dominant hero then not give me some good payoff. The sex scenes were not great and certainly not very D/s at all beyond him telling to pose in different ways.
- It was hard to believe in the sudden "love" between these two. She pushes him away for most of the book because he is a man whore and he spends most of the book thinking how he wants to screw her so he can forget her like the rest. How romantic. He even tries to have sex with another woman at around the 70% mark and she forgives him right away (they had not had sex yet at that point because it took forever for that to finally happen).
The series is pretty good overall but this story disappointed me because I was looking forward to a sexy dominant hero and some electric chemistry and instead I got a frustrating story of why they stayed apart then I didn't find the love scenes or relationship to be satisfying when they finally occurred....more
