I liked Ava, she was funny and didn't take herself too seriously. Chase was okay but I like the other McKays better. His brother Ben sounds up my alley :)
So a pleasant story (with no horrible story-ruining prologue like the last one) but not as good as books 3-9.
Oh yeah, the McKays are starting to look like the Duggars. I think Colby and Channing have 5 kids already. Holy crap.(less)

On the other hand, his intentions were sweet. I wish we would have actually seen the hot lovin' scene we were teased with the whole story. I did like where they finally got to it, let's just say my hubby and I have something in common with these two and it brought back good memories of my wedding night ;)(less)

I have loved the last few Rough Riders books so I was suprised at some of the stuff I found in Cowgirls Don't Cry. Most of the book was pretty good but it just wasn't up to the quality of the last few books.
First off, I have to address the horrible prologue. It was the worst beginning I have ever read in a book. The heroine is at a party with a loser guy who is drunk and stoned. She goes off with him to have sex even after he invites other random guys to join in with them. She is drunk but there is no excuse for doing something that dumb, trashy and dangerous at her age - she isn't 16 and drunk for the first time. Brandt tries to stop her but she won't leave, she gives the loser a BJ and fully intended to sleep with him possibly in front of Brandt, but the loser guy passed out while giving her oral with the hero watching. Wow. What in the world was the author thinking? These actions do not fit with the heroine's personality at all. It was a sleezy, disgusting scene that started this book of at a nasty place and made me feel dirty. I also seriously questioned the heroine's intelligence and maturity. If she wanted to finally sleep with another man, why didn't she go on a date or find someone decent? Basically, I had to sort of scrub this incident from my mind to enjoy the rest of the book.
After the bad beginning that didn't fit the main character's personalities, the story was actually pretty good. I liked Brandt and Jessie as a couple even though they both seemed a little insecure sometimes. Jessie did get some backbone in the story but I had trouble with the fact that she let her deceased husband cheat on her and never really stood up for herself or confronted him about it, she just ignored it - that is just crazy to me. She does show growth in the story, she was willing to fight for Brandt when a girl tries to come onto him. Brandt was a nice guy but I hated how he let his nasty father walk all over him, I wish he would have stood up for himself and Jessie better.
I had one other issue: what is with all these McKay kids? Why do they all have like six kids? And why are four women breast feeding together at the same time? It's a bit much even for someone who likes kids.
I did like some parts of Jessie and Brandt's romance. I would recommend skipping the prologue so you don't have to try to scrub it from your brain like I did. Hopefully the next Rough Riders book will get back on track.(less)

He even knows who he wants to settle down with - sexy single mom Ginger Paulson. The problem is Ginger's eight year old son Hayden is Kane's Little Buddy and he is not supposed to have a relationship with a mom in the program that connects father-less young boys with an adult male mentor.
Ginger slips and falls down a flight of stairs, causing a hurt shoulder and ankle. Kane volunteers to help her with Hayden and her wheelchair bound father while she recovers, despite her reluctance to rely on anyone else. Once Ginger has sexy cowboy Kane within arms reach, she finally gets the courage to let him know she wants him and has for some time. Kane can't resist finally getting to have Ginger where he wants her - in bed nekkid with him in control. They have to take things easy at first because of her injuries but once she heals, Kane takes command with no holds barred. Let's just say Kane has rope and knows how to use it.
Kane and Ginger's sexual chemistry is combustible but he wants more than just sex. He suggests they keep their relationship quiet at first because of Hayden and the Little Buddy program. However, Kane embarks on a campaign to win Ginger for his own with all of his sexy cowboy charm and his skillful silver tongue.
Kane and Ginger's story was hot, sexy and sweet! Kane was such a wonderful man, he helped Ginger with her son and father and basically just tried to take care of her since she was always taking care of everyone but herself. Plus he was dominant and very sexy during their love scenes. Kane admired Ginger's strength instead of being threatened by it, he appreciated the way she cared for her son and father. He was a little self-conscious of his lack of education compared to Ginger's job as a lawyer but she convinces him that she thinks the world of the caring man he is and stuff like that doesn't matter. Ginger was an admirable person, she worked hard to be a good mom and daughter. She admires Kane and appreciates him for the caring man he is today and doesn't judge him based on his past the way some do.
As you can tell, I loved the story and though Kane was an amazing hero. He and Ginger make a great couple, I really enjoyed seeing them find love together since they were both lonely. Kane was also wonderful with her son and father, he will be a great Dad. Raising Kane was a sexy, sweet, hot and emotional entry into this great series.
There is no M/M or ménage in this book. It does contain hot nekkid mattress dancing, oral scenes in the shower and various other places, a little bondage and anal plus some light spanking just to liven things up. (less)

Jack and Keely were a great couple who liked to fight sometimes and they definitely heated up the sheets in the bedroom. There was a lot of emotion in the book as they work their way from hate to lust then love. There were a lot of funny scenes and lines that made me crack up. The emotional end even made me tear up a bit too. Another amazing story in this great series!

The story had a great mix of smoking hot love scenes and emotions. I think those of us who are married or in a relationship can relate to some of the communication issues in the book, so it's nice to see a couple work through their problems and come out a stronger couple. I really enjoyed this one!
There is no ménage or m/m in this book for those who are not fans.(less)

I was wary going into this story because I was afraid Chassie was going to be the third wheel in this relationship. I should have realized Ms. James could take a difficult relationship like this and make it work - and make it emotionaly satisfying as well. I felt the resonable questions and emotions that would come up from finding your husband attracted to another man (as well as you) were brought up and dealt with in a satisfying way that made sense. Trevor did love Chassie, she wasn't his consolation prize. He just loved Edgard too. I didn't feel like anyone was worse off - Trevor, Chassie and Edgar all had their physical and emotional needs met. The initial shock and hurt that Chassie felt was dealt with well, she takes it in a realistic manner then tries to work through the situation and keep Trevor from denying an important part of himself.
Overall, it was a good read that I was unsure of going in but throughly enjoyed. Ms. James can pretty much convince me of any relationship - which is the mark of a good author.(less)
