I was thinking it was going to be more about horses as spiritual teachers. It touched on that but was really more about a gentle & natural approach to working with horses on the ground. It was a good refresher but not ground breaking or new information to me.(less)

A fairly dark version of Pinnicchio with lots of new ideas explored as to twists & turns turning this loved children's tale into adult concepts.
I did not care however, for the author's writing style. I felt like I rattled around in Pinnocchio's head constantly circling over and over the same thoughts. I imagine this was the author's intent, but for me it grew tiresome and drawn out and made the book hard to get through.(less)

To enjoy the book though I think you definitely need to be a fan of the author. (less)

Carrie's dry and sarcastic wit had my laughing the whole way through as gives us a glimpse into the lives of the celebrities and stars that surround her and her battles with addiction & mental illness. I'm not a fan of Nicholas Sparks and this book did nothing to change my opinion of him. The story was not original and anyone that has seen "Sleeping With The Enemy" knows the story.
I actually skipped over lots of the book and it was kind of like a soap opera in that sense. Miss a few days...skip a few chapters but you can pick it right back up and not much has happened from where you left of the last time.

True to her style there was a large courtroom drama ending and that can sometimes drag on for me, but all in all I like the characters in this, I liked the exploration into a world foreign to me and I just generally liked the story. I thought she did a good job developing everyone and kept you guessing until the end. (less)

It is so hard to get my head around the reality of this girl's life and how the lie was carried out for so long. It's hard to write much without giving details away. It was a hard book to get through because I kept coming back to the fact that this really happened. (less)

I enjoyed the story though and loved the imagination and creativity behind giving the "wicked" witch a reason to be wicked and perhaps just misunderstood and maybe even good. (less)

The characters were all saved from whatever trouble they hit by some grace that came out of nowhere. I felt this lack of having to resolve conflict left the people I was reading about undeveloped.
There were moments in the book I was reminded of "The Help" & "The Secret Lives of Bees" but these moments were brief and I'm almost feeling bad about comparing this book to the pieces of literature the other two were.(less)

It was a great perspective through a war horses eyes of the people in the war and what could be learned from about them through their interactions with the horse. It was also a great tribute to the people and animals in the war. I was supposed to see it on Broadway but since those plans did not work out I figured experiencing on the page was the next best thing. I was not disappointed!(less)

I also struggled with the fact that there was only 1 character that I actually liked. I was unable to make any connection with the people I was reading about. Interesting topic though. (less)
