TheOnce upon a time, Snow White was sent as an emissary to Arabia from Fabletown to convince the sultan to become an ally to the fables of Fabletown. The Adversary hasn't invaded Arabia yet, but it's just a matter of time and the Fables think that if the two are allies, they can fight off the Adversary more easily. She is well received and given a comfortable suite of rooms where she is fed, bathed, rest and forgotten (or possibly ignored). Snow isn't used to this poor treatment and insists upon seeing the Sultan. Her visit doesn't go as planned and she finds herself facing death. To put off her impending doom, she tells the Sultan stories and in doing so tries to convince him to ally himself with the Fables.
Thus we hear the origin stories of many of the Fables. We learn what happened to the seven dwarfs who treated Snow White so badly in Rose Red. We also hear how King Ambrose became the frog prince and how Frau Totenkinder came to Fabletown. We also learn how Bigby became the Big Bad Wolf (he was the runt of his litter!)
Fun retelling of many fairy tales and fables....more

Not only were Snow White and Rose Red sisters, they were also best friends who promised to always stay together. We know that bad things happen in fairy tales, and the two sisters are separated. We finally learn why Red hates Snow so much.
I enjoyed this retelling of Snow White. She is sent to live with her aunt who becomes the one who is jealous of Snow's beauty. The seven dwarfs are not kind, fun loving men of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There is no glass coffin after Snow falls into the deep sleep. Luckily Prince Charming comes soon after she falls asleep or she would have died.
Note to self: re-read Grimm's Snow White.
I've really enjoyed reading this graphic novel series. I'm going to be sad when it ends....more

EYou may think that pink is a pretty color, a fluffy, sparkley, princessy color. But your view of pink may change after reading Pink is for Blobfish. Each animal in this book is pink, but they aren't necessarily pretty. Take the blobfish for example, which has a face only a mother could love. Blobfish are made of gelatinous goo, which allows them to drift lazily through the ocean like bloated pink balloons. They don't hunt for food. Instead, when something edible floats by, they open their mouths and gulp it down.
This book is awesome. The photographs are beautiful and some of the animals are pretty cute. My favorites, other than the blobfish, are the orchid mantises (so awesome looking-it looks like an orchid!), the roseate spoonbills (they're born with white feathers and get their pink coloring from the shrimp they eat), the pink fairy armamdillos and the hippopotamuses. Really all the animals are pretty awesome and there are lots of interesting facts about each animal....more
