I just finished a massive re-read of the entire series, plus the CON books ... AND took the time to read the first Lord of Avalon books before tackling Dragonbane.
I have to say, the re-reads definitely helped with my enjoyment of this book.
I know with Kenyon's four arc plan (and we're only in the 2nd arc - Jaden I think) world building was going to get complicated and intense -- which I happen to love. (Then she throws in the CON books, which is seriously warping my grasp on what's happening now.) Which just makes me enjoy this complicated series so much.
I've been fascinated by Maxis since his introduction. I loved Dragonswan, so when another dragon showed up in the Dark-Hunter realm I was thrilled. Then, I had to sit back and wait for his story to be told.
It was worth the wait. Max is one bad ass (very large) dragon, who has a core of loyalty and a heart of gold. My opinion of Seraphina was the same as Illarion's, and took me just about as long to warm up to her. Blaise is just plain awesome. Fang, Fury, and Dev are in typical form in this book, which has several LOL moments. Styxx is slowly becoming one of my very favorite characters in this series. There are a pile of previous characters making appearances in this book, which was a lot of fun to see them show up. I missed Simi in this book though.
All that being said, I think this one was a bit rushed, and could have been so much more ... meatier. I find that the non-Dark-Hunter books (i.e. Were & Dream) always seems to be a bit less than the core Dark Hunter books though. Max's book left me wanting more, just like Fury's story.
It's going to be a bumpy ride for the dragons. I'm looking forward to seeing where the next book takes us!

I decided to give it a go ... and wow, so much better than the movie. I absolutely loved it.
I really loved the world building in the book, and most of the characters actually hooked me into caring about them pretty quick.
While most YA's have a love triangle, this one didn't have me looking for knitting needles to stick in my eyes. Here's hoping future installments are similar.

I really enjoyed this book. I always enjoy a Camelot setting, and this take is so very unique. Kerrigan is your typical anti-hero. After choosing darkness, it was so much fun to watch him interact with Seren's light.
Such a great love story. I'm a sucker for the alpha who fights tooth and nail against falling for the fair maiden. Blaise is terrific! I really adore that mandrake. Wonderful laugh-out-loud moments in this book. It reminded me of how much I enjoy the earlier Dark Hunter books.
I was a bit surprised how I connected more with the darker forces instead of the actual Lords of Avalon in this book. It'll be interesting to see how I feel after the next book....more

I haven't been a huge Xhex fan, and this book really didn't change that for me. She really broke something in John Matthew in the last book, and it was a little heart wrenching watching their relationship heal from that wound. I'm happy with their HEA ... but I wouldn't say they're my favorite couple in the series.
Tohr was amazing in this book. It's nice to see him getting back in the game. I'm so happy that things are better with JM for him.
No'one was quite the shocker at the end ... did not see that one coming.
Blay and Quinn ... so much like Jules and Robin from the Troubleshooter series.
I'm so excited to read Payne's story! It's going to be interesting with Manny in the mix next.
Murhder is very intriguing ... I'm looking forward to learning more about him.
I really wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Rehv's book.
Lots of stuff happens in this book ... most of it not happy happy joy joy either. ThisI really wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Rehv's book.
Lots of stuff happens in this book ... most of it not happy happy joy joy either. This one definitely hits a lot of different buttons.
I was glad to see Payne make an appearance in this book. I can't wait to see how her story goes when it gets here. I loved that Manuel Manello, M.D. made a brief appearance.
Wrath broke my heart in this book. George is a great addition to the Brotherhood.
Rehv and everyone connected to him is really put through the wringer. Trez and iAm are so intriguing to me. I can't wait to learn more about them.
Ehlena is pretty awesome. There are the prerequisite moments where you want to reach into the book and shake her, but the good news is ... she gets there on her own pretty quick. I love how she fought to get to her hellren.
Bella didn't have all that great of a ride in this book either. I loved her interactions with Rehv in this book. Such deep love he has for his sister.
It was nice to see Tohr take the first steps back, but not without some collateral damage with JM...who had his own emotional Mack Truck hit him.
Xhex really annoyed me in this book. I get that she has really crappy baggage, and she's not dealing with her feelings for JM all that well...yeah, seriously annoyed with her right now. I'm really not sure how I feel about the fact that John Matthew's book is next. Things are not in a happy place for them right now.
Needless to say, I'm in a weird place heading into the next book. There's lots of cliffhanger action going on, so it should be interesting to see what happens next.
