The first half of the book is filled with many questions and is hard to follow and you wonder, "What is really happening here?" The love triangle is huge, and just when you think you know what is going to happen, surprise! There were many surprises along the way in this novel. I liked that you were always kept on your toes about what was happening, why it was happening and what finally happened.
The bad guys, the SCI are disgusting, but of course they have their reasons for doing what they did. If this review sounds vague...that's because it is! You know me, I don't do reviews that give major things away. I hate to read reviews that do that, and don't want to spoil the book for future readers. Just know, this is a book that takes you on a wild ride. It is for older teens and adults. Their is talk of underage drinking, sex and murder...nothing is too gratuitous though.
I enjoyed reading this novel just because it was different, it kept you guessing and left you with an ending that makes you want to read the next book! (less)

At first, I had a hard time keeping track of all of the many different characters and their names. After that was figured out, it was more of a smooth read for me. There are many characters that would vie for status as "main" characters because you have several story-lines going on in this novel. Some of my favorites would have to be Nightshadow, the woman assassin, and the priest named Rose( there is nothing feminine about him!) They had some of the best lines and plots in the book. Of course the evil villain, the King of Relavia, Li'endrin,is about as bad as bad gets. I didn't see any goodness in him at all. Anyone that did what he did, to his own children, is an awful creature. Speaking of creatures, there were many different kinds in the story, including dragons, elves, and ogres to add to the excitement.I really did like the half-ogre, Farrehn. He made me laugh a lot, and really did have a good heart.
There is a lot to like about this first novel, by Author M.L. Chesley. If you don't get distracted by the strange names and the many characters, you will find a good fantasy that will keep you involved. Be ready for a cliff-hanger at the end, which will leave you itching for book #2 in the series(less)

Right from the beginning of this novel, you are drawn in with the mystery of Mercedes trying to fulfill her sister's last request:whether or not Kat's husband, William Braxton, is a spy. The colonial setting is fresh, and interesting, and a time period that is not already over-saturated in the world of romance novels.
I love how Marie brings her characters together with such heat and passion, without using gratuitous sex scenes. She can make a long-drawn out kiss so steamy. Bravo! Along with the romance in this novel, it is filled with intrigue and excitement. With the background of the Revolutionary War soon starting, and the Sons of Liberty fighting for their freedom, there is never a dull moment.
I loved this novel and highly recommend it to all those who want a clean, historical romance full of surprises, great characters, and of course a romance to make you sigh and want to read more.

It is a clean, story with values intertwined into it's pages. It's nice to have books out there, that you don't have to worry about pre-reading before your kids or students read it. There is also a mystery as Ginnie discovers something about her past. In the end, both girls realize what is most important...family. Any tween who enjoys reading about horses, friends and a simpler life, will enjoy The Secret Sisters Club and the whole Ginnie West Adventure series. (less)

Though both experiences have been different, there has also been many of the same feelings attached to these different times in my life. Kylee Shields book, Make It Happen, A Guide To Happiness for LDS Singles, could just be called, "A Guide to Happiness for ALL People." I was pleasantly surprised, and quite pleased, to see that this book wasn't just another dating book about how to win a spouse. This book centers on becoming the best person that you can be, and in turn this will bring about happiness in your life, single or not.
One of my favorite aspects of the book came at the end of each chapter. After a great topic, like Validation, or A Matter of Heart, Kylee leaves the reader with "Action Questions". These questions help the reader focus on the topic just discussed and how to implement these ideas into their life. I found this a powerful aspect of the book, where I stopped and reflected on my life and considered how I could make some good changes.
Kylee shares such wonderful and rich stories from her life. You can't help but be lifted up and inspired to change your life for the better. The title of the book, Make It Happen, exudes with such positive energy, you can't help but be enthused to make good things happen in your life. I recommend this book to readers of all ages, teens, young adults, older adults...you name it! Everyone who reads this book, will come away with ideas of how to make happiness a part of their everyday life. (less)

I read this book every chance I could: before bed, during my lunch time, while putting my make-up on etc. This compelling read has the best of everything! I loved the storyline, the characters, the fantasy world, the romance...well, even the bad guys! Tournament of Chance is one of those books, that when you finish, you love the ending but you are incredibly sad because you don't want to leave this world you have been hanging out in the past few days.
This fantasy book has time travel, a great romance, lots of action, dragons, shape-shifters, a powerful lead character and a story that never drags and lots of magic. Even those that think they don't like fantasy, will find something to like in this novel. I am now sitting here wishing for another book with these same characters. I would be thrilled to read anything else this author has written. This book gets 5 stars from me! (less)

I have gained and lost, and gained and lost, many pounds through the years. Betsy states at the beginning of the book that Finished Being Fat is not a diet book. This book gets to the heart of your mind, and they way you think of your weight/dieting and following through with the whole process.
Betsy's journey to conquer this foe, once and for all, is very inspiring. There are many key things that readers can gain from Betsy's story. Here is an excerpt from her book...
"After many years of being fat and miserable, with a few years of being average and less miserable mixed in, I finally had a light bulb moment. The reason I was unhappy was not just the extra 75 pounds around my middle. It was the weight of all the things unfinished that hung around my neck.
I was always having grand ideas. I’d get excited about this diet, or that workout routine. Or starting a new hobby or project. Even trying to write a book. Problem was, within a few weeks the excitement would fade and that little voice would kick in. You know the one I’m talking about. “You’re no good at this. You’ll never keep the weight off. Why are you even bothering.” That little voice had kept me from finishing… anything. And every time I quit, my wall of failures would get a little higher — making success that much harder to see.
My adventure started when I decided I was finished being fat, but it snowballed into year of changing my life and accomplishing seemingly impossible dreams. Join me while I discover that “Not everyone can win the race, but everyone can finish.”
And everything is worth finishing."
I think this idea struck me so hard. Why couldn't I finish fully losing the weight or getting healthy? Reading Betsy's story has given me the motivation and courage to press on despite what has happened in the past. Also, the small voice inside of all of us sometimes can be very unhelpful. That negative voice needs to be changed. It was so wonderful to see how Betsy gained confidence in herself and her potential to do and finish anything she wanted. Taking small steps at a time proved she could finish the race, and she did literally!
I highly recommend this book for those who want to finally take off the weight, and keep it off by changing their thinking. I want to be healthy and with Betsy's winning attitude on my mind, I KNOW I can do it! (less)

This story is told from the teen hero's perspective. Kai is a strong character that finds out something about himself that changes his whole world. Kai is someone, or something different than he thought he was. As he figures out the secret of his true identity, and his lost father, new evils and other world creatures become a part of his life. Author Leandi Cameron has created a world full of powerful Gods and supernatural creatures. I was excited to read this book about Shape-shifters. If they fall in love with a human, the powerful and evil God Quinn, will destroy that love by killing their human lover/mate. There is a legend behind this evil villain's actions, too long to put here. You will have to read the book to find out more.
Kai and Sienna are a great couple whose love goes through many ups and downs.I like them together and how they truly fought for each other and for their love. The ending is quite shocking, but thrilling. It's nice to read a YA Paranormal book that has some new twists written in. This book will be enjoyed by older teens(ages 14+) and adults. I wouldn't recommend this to tweens or middle grade readers(ages 8-13) because of some violence and bad language. Everyone else will love this story full of action, romance, and sacrifice. (less)
