Both the title of this book and the name of the series describes perfectly the story that unfolded in this book.
Ashley Copeland is a young, exuberant, glass half full kind of girl who wants the perfect fairy tale in her romantic life. She believes that Devon Carter is her prince come to help make her dreams come true. While the two have chemistry, a basis for their relationship is a lie. And I can't help but think that Devon is the dumbest coward ever.
He was immediately attracted to Ashley, wanting to keep climbing the ladder of success he agreed to a business deal by Ashley's father where the two companies would merge and Ashley's hand in marriage was part of that deal. Cold, cruel, but her father was trying to do this out of love, he sincerely failed. Devon wanted to be upfront with Ashley from the beginning and tell her about this business merger, but he heeded Mr. Copeland's wishes and took the cowards way out. Unfortunately, Ashley does find out about the deal in one of the worst ways at the worst time. Those rose covered glasses are thrown off, throwing Ashely into the harsh reality of the real world.
I didn't know if Devon could ever redeem himself. He suggested that they could make their marriage work based on mutual respect without letting something like the emotion of love, or possible lack of it get in the way. I must say that it was hard at times to like the naive Ashely, one couldn't help but sympathize with her about the way things turned out, but she decided to make another mistake, a huge one. Change who she is as a person into someone that Devon wants so that maybe he'll actually love her and marriage could really work between the two.
Well, this was a complete disaster, the only good thing about this turn of events is that Ashley decided she didn't need to change and someone who truly loved her will love her flaws and all.
Finally, Devon has an aha moment after Ashley confesses that she is pregnant and leaving him... he loved her all along, and not the idea of a perfect wife, but the real Ashely. He makes several grand gestures to win her back and set up their happily ever after together. I hope in the next book we get to visit this couple and what is going on with them.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series, both Cam and Pippa are interesting characters and I can only begin to imagine about their trip to forever. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any Harlequin Desire fan or fan of the author. This story is without typical cliches and was refreshing.

It's such a shame because I like this series, especially books 1-4 and Maya Banks is one of my favorite contemporary erotic romance authors. I made it almost half way through so my rating is based on what I have read.
The biggest reason for abandoning this book is because of my connection, or lack there of to the characters. I never connected to Ren and didn't care what was happening in regards to her. I liked Lucas, but he went all cave man in a way that didn't work for me. I am used to Doms written as super protective of their subs, but in this scenario it just didn't work. I felt like Cole was an after thought even though this was supposed to be his book. I was so excited that he was getting a book, I just wanted more for him. That being said, I'm sad that this is the end to the Sweet Series but am looking forward to the spin off series and I hope that the next book is the caliber that we have all come to love and expect. If you are a fan of this series I recommend that you skip this one and only try this one if you were curious like I was.(less)
