And I must say, not a bad first attempt at RS.
Anna Pallino stuck up for 4 misfit boys in school. Foster kids that have finally found a steady home, love, and support through their new foster parents and a new friend. For Dante Renaldi it was love. Until a fateful night when they were teenagers and Anna was brutally attacked behind where she worked while her guys were inside waiting for her. They went vigilante on her attacker and as a result Dante was convinced to skip town. Twelve years later he is back. Back to see his foster parents, brothers, and the one woman he's always been in love with.
However, it isn't the happy family reunion once murders start taking place. Bodies eventually pile up. With a distinct link to Anna and the guys. The usual suspects were very predictable and who I thought was going to be the real killer was not. I was pleasantly surprised. This book read like watching any crime/law enforcement show on TV right now. Decent, but not spectacular. I loved Dante, he was a man of mystery, never gave up on Anna, and instantly sprung into action to figure out what was going on. And true to Burton's style the love scenes were steamy.
I didn't care for Anna for most of the book, she was a character that was hard to like. She had some major psychological issues that were never addressed properly. And she constantly pushed Dante away, he was a saint for putting up with her, because I found her annoying.
What I really loved and have to commend Burton on was the ending. I didn't see it coming. The suspense was intense, so many last minute twist and turns to the plot, it was so good! And then the identity of the true killer was revealed. It was such a good ending! I look forward to the next book in the series, or at least to Burton's next romantic suspense if this is one is not part of a series. I will definitely read it. I recommend this one to fans of the author.
