I don't know about you, but I can easily feel overwhelmed by the idea of studying the Bible. It's just so hard to know where to start and of course I always have the nagging thought, "Am I doing this the right way?"
Jen Wilkin takes this deep topic and breaks it down to be both understandable and easy to apply. She challenges you and shows you how to get past the desire of wanting to dig deeper into God's Word to actually DO it. In chapter two, Jen describes six common ways we "study" God's Word and how those approaches are leaving us lacking. But in pointing out the ways we are falling short, she also shares much grace and hope. I walked away from this book excited rather than feeling defeated. The core of this book is about the "5 P's" of studying God's Word and each of those steps makes going deep do-able for any woman in any stage of life.
This is not a dry book. Jen writes like you are her friend and in a way that makes things easy to understand, not harder. It is 152 pages long...or short...because it really does read fast! While it is definitely aimed at women, I do think that teen girls could enjoy it and most certainly benefit from it's wisdom.
I recommend this book to any woman wanting to understand how to study your Bible. Whether you are a beginner or you've been studying it for years, I really think you will find something in this book to help you continue on. This is a book you will most likely want a print version of over the ebook formatting since it's one you'll refer back to for all it's great resources.
Women of the Word would be a great selection for your book club. While it does not have group discussion questions included, it would not be hard to make them yourself.

The Organized Heart is a small, but powerful guide to help you understand what you really need to get your life under control. So many of us long to be organized and yet find ourselves frustrated over and over again. Instead of giving you 101 things to do to make your life more organized, Eastin writes about the heart of the matter.
This is a Cruciform Press book which means it's easy to read for all of us - even those who don't have a lot of time. The chapters are few and short. Each one ends with a 3 to 4 questions that help you as an individual process what you have just read.
I enjoyed being challenged by this book and also rejoicing as I saw places where I have grown. This thought-provoking read made me stop and think through why I do what I do and where I need to change. I also really appreciated this book because I did not have to wade through list after list of ideas to find the one that fits my life. Instead this is the frame work, therefore being applicable to all, and giving room to apply the lessons learned in a way that really works for you.
I want to recommend this book to anyone who is not organized and desires to be - this will be the encouragement you need and probably haven't gotten. For those who already are organized, you need to read this in order to check your motivations. And lastly, for those who don't know where you fit or maybe know you're not organized and have no desire to be, you will be challenged by this book, too....more
