During the course of our lives, we've all made decisions we deeply regret. Some of those choices carry heavy consequences as we stagger along under the burdens of guilt, shame and regret, even self-loathing. Can we be released from these burdens? Is there any redemption possible for us? Any way we can be restored at all?
Kim Cash Tate says "Yes!" between the pages of this powerful novel. Results are already being seen in the lives of those who have read this wonderful book. For example, on Kim's blog page she has an interview with Christian rapper Da’ T.R.U.T.H. who wrote the song 'Cherished' to his wife based on this book. You can find all the details, an interview and hear the song at Kim's blog: http://www.kimcashtate.com/2011/08/of... . It's definitely worth checking out her webpage to hear a powerful testimony by this young rapper who found restoration, redemption and the healing of his marriage through Christ Jesus.
It all started with Kim Cash Tate's beautiful heart-wrenching book. I dare you. Read it. C'mon, I dare you. See if you find yourself in the pages of her book. Her message touched my heart and I challenge you to let it touch yours! You'll be surprised and pleasantly so. Thank you Kim! Please continue to write more of what the Lord gives you. It's healing, powerful stuff.

In those intimate places where hope, discouragement, painful memories, past mistakes, etc. like to hide. This book does just that, however, it doesn't stop there. It brings along healing, hope & light; a pot of spiritual soup, good conversation and the love of a good friend with it...
Candy Marie Bridges is that friend. She shares her life as it has been thus far, and let me reassure you, it has not been an easy, perfect one. In fact, it's been just the opposite - rife with challenges, losses and trials. However, even since childhood, Mrs. Bridges has had immutable strength to deal with whatever surprises life has thrown her way. In this, her memoir, she freely shares the secret to that strength, persistence, and determination which have carried her through. Candy Marie Bridges is a woman of faith, and her life reflects just that. Sit at her table and let her tell you about her Friend on the journey, the Lord Jesus Christ. You will be inspired, encouraged, and challenged to reflect on your own life and faith. In the pages of this book you will find hope, healing, encouragement, strength and peace for these troubled times.
***This book also contains Questions for Reading Groups. Would be a great book for small group study.

The story opens with a young Gabe standing on the rooftop of his home gazing at the stars... [I could literally visualize the scene the author was painting with his words, and felt as if I were standing there with him in the cold night star-gazing. The protagonist has a unique way of looking at the constellations; they seem to come to life through his eyes. Thanks to Dr. Fesmire, I'll never look at stars so casually or flippantly again.] As young Gabe is scanning the night sky, a shot rings out. His father has committed suicide... and Gabe finds him right after it happens.
The present: His father's suicide haunts him, torments him and Gabe can't seem to shake it. Even God seems distant. Suffering numerous, repeated nightmares; not only of his father's suicide, but dreams filled with images of death and tragedy as a Confederate soldier in the civil war. He fears he will meet the same end as his father. This fear carries over to every aspect of his life. It affects his relationship with the love of his life, Elizabeth "Sis" Morgan, and his relationships with friends. Gabe tries to live normally, but ends up sabotaging the normalcy he attempts to have in his life at every turn. The tension of wondering whether Gabe will fall prey to the same demise as his father, is one of the factors which will keep the reader immersed in this novel. Will Gabe and Sis be able to survive the 'civil war' which is tearing Gabe apart?
In an attempt to gain a semblance of control of his life, Gabe turns to his search for God. He calls a few of his friends and asks them, 'What is your secret to life?' 'What about God?' 'Do you believe in God?' He receives different answers: 'God is the ultimate copout'. 'I just believe if God exists, he has chosen not to reveal himself', and so forth. As Gabe is reflecting on his spiritual search one morning, he gets a revelation; one that comes to him as the sun glints off a beautiful gold compass Sis had given him. It reminds him of Sirius, the belt of Orion. Behind the compass is a picture of him as a small boy hugging his father. Understanding comes to him that he has a choice; that even though the world was too much for his father, it doesn't have to be that way for him. He refuses to become like his father, and refuses to see the world as his father saw it. He can finally come to terms with and forgive his father. The revelation of God hits him; he sees salvation through his beloved stars. "I feel suddenly like Robinson Crusoe finding a print in the sand, or like Watson and Crick playing with their DNA molecules when suddenly all the pieces fall into place. The belt of Orion ... Sirius ... ... three stars point to one ... In the beginning was Logos and Logos was with God and God was Logos ... ... Logos God ..." This is the moment that revelation and realization hit Gabe in his search.: God is the past, present and future, He is everywhere. There is no such thing as nothingness. Gabe finally comes to peace within himself and within his universe.
This is the deepest novel I've read in a long time. I fell in love with Dr. Fesmire's prose; he has a beautiful, lyrical style of writing. He describes Gabe's experiences as an ER Doctor with gritty realism; humorous at times, incredible at others, yet totally believable. Gabe becomes so real through the author's hand, that you literally feel his pain, confusion, love and joy. This is a story meant to be dissected to appreciate the symbolism and underlying motifs it contains. It is meant to be sniffed, sipped, and savored like a fine wine, yet one cannot seem to stop turning the pages voraciously. I've read this novel three times and plan to go back for more.
Dr. Fesmire, with "Nashville Skyline", you are Van Gogh and this masterpiece is your "Starry Night".

Wow! How do you rate a book like this when 5 stars is not enough? Try 500.
First off, this is not a book... it's an experience... Fasten your seatbelts people. You'll need them for this one. It's one hell of a ride; literally. This is the stuff of nightmares; the biblical hell.
After reading Mr. Biro's memoir 4 times, I'm finally able to finish this review. His detailed account of his experiences will stun you, shock you, and terrify you. At different times while reading, I became breathless, speechless, covered in goosebumps and yet awed as to the honesty, and the reality of Mr. Biro's experiences.
I do not claim to be a theologian or philosopher. I am simply a follower of Jesus Christ; merely someone who reads the bible and works out my own personal faith. As I read "Hellucination", I sat down with my bible, and checked and re-checked everything I read. It followed biblical descriptions. As I read different parts, certain scriptures would come into my mind that fit what I was reading perfectly. This was the most frightening, yet exciting part of all.
Mr. Biro, you've asked the question, Why? Why were you chosen to see the things you saw and experience the things you did? Because of your total honesty friend. Because in my opinion, God saw your heart. You had that special courage, the willingness, inner strength and personal fortitude to lay it all on the line, to tell the truth no matter what. That takes guts my friend. I, for one, thank you for taking the risk. You've moved me to action, and I'll be forever grateful.
"Hellucination" is soul-searching, life examining and provocative. The most "real" memoir you will ever read.
I put to you a challenge. I dare you. I dare you to read this book and not be changed. If you don't read any other book this year, you must read "Hellucination"!
*** Does contain strong language and violence. May be offensive to some, but then again, hell is offensive...
11/14/11 - My copy arrived in the mail today, and needless to say I'm speechless... I skimmed through it, reading a few parts here and there, because I had some errands to run; and I did not want to put it down. What I read gave me chillbumps. I'm arming myself with a notebook and bible and will update my thoughts here if I can pull myself away long enough. What I've read so far, is so incredible. Incredible, but believable. Thought provoking. Stunning. Powerful. There are no words to describe the author's experiences, except his... You've got to read this book. It will turn your world upside down.
11/09/11 - I read chapter 20 of this memoir here on Goodreads. A very intense story, (not for the faint of heart), a detailed, spiritual accounting of the author's experiences in his search for God. Thought provoking and believable from what I've read so far. I'd love to study the rest and attempt to spiritually/biblically discern Mr. Biro's experiences. There are a multitude of books out there from those who claim they've 'went to heaven', but not many (that I'm aware of) from anyone who claims they've 'been to hell'. I'm not naive or gullible when approaching these types of books. I don't simply swallow whatever I'm fed, no matter who the author is. However, Mr. Biro, I believe you are someone who has experienced hell, not just spiritually but also in your life here on earth. I'd love to know the rest.

At this moment, I'm sitting here stunned. Stunned because I've finally received answers I've needed for the longest time. Stunned because I've connected to another soul with many of the strange, uncommon symptoms I've experienced, some since childhood. Stunned because I no longer feel alone with the monster known as MS...
This lady's story could be mine, or one of many others. She has successfully put into words, the things we wish we could say about the struggles associated with MS, but oftentimes, cannot express through mere words.
Mrs. Palardy has written an honest, painful, at times heartbreaking account of her journey through life, MS, and the assortment of medical testing and treatments. She has faced the issues in her life head on with courage, strength and personal fortitude. Terry is by no means a victim, but a slayer of this dragon. Her husband, a true knight in shining armor, stands strong by her side, supporting her, facing everything this ugly disease can throw at them.
This is an honest, important, inspiring, empowering book, which will help any one with MS, and will bring knowledge and a deeper understanding to the loved ones and friends of those with the disease.
Thank you Terry for this gift you have given. Your story and courage has made a difference in my life.
