I really enjoyed this novel- it felt like the author was having a conversation with me- that than telling me- if that makes sense- I found it very easy to follow, and again a real enjoyable read- and ideal for authors looking to improve their writing craft- or aspiring authors.
okay- here goes- this book is full of advice, tips, and personal quotes ie (one of the authors favourite writers) its nice because all these little things make the novel more personal. my review is 5*s, its the sort of book you need to read once- then re-read to make notes-
the author tackles writers block- we are told this is perfectly normal, and then goes on to tell us little tips on how it can be prevented, there are some fun activities to do- to imagine- very cleaver.
the author touches upon visualization techniques, (which again is a must for authors) we have to picture characters, settings, really get inside a characters head before we can begin to write.
The dreaded first drafts. The writer shares tit-bits of what she learnt whilst she was set in Oxford university on her creative writing course. The author gives us some fun tasks to try that will help with the dreaded first draft- I like how the author constantly gives the reader support- writers do hit stumbling blocks, and I guess its nice from one author to another to say its perfectly normal- keep going- the author doesn't say it is going to be a walk in the park- we're told its not easy, ideas aren't just going to fall from the sky- we have to dig deep- keep writing- we control our own creativity-
imagining a characters past- oh that's interesting- the whys, the wherefores, what makes characters tick, predictability is touched upon also.. the big question why...
gosh I've made so many bullet points about this book, but I don't want to give too much away- what I liked about this book - I love the way the author speaks to the readers- she has hit the audience perfectly, there is just enough information for each point- the author goes on to say how important it is to hook the reader-
to be honest- I don't read these types of books- so this was a lovely change for me- i thought it would be more- telling us what to do- but wow how wrong was I- the book is full of invaluable techniques for writers- whatever stage of their writing career - the author tells you how it is- no messing- straight to the point- a defo must read :D...more

ok, so horror isn't usually a genre I read, but I must admit that it was a nice change- I like how the author gives you a little insights at a time- which builds to a climax that you cant see coming - I don't want to give too much away- but it starts in a graveyard, and the teenagers are told a story - the story unfolds with an interlinking conclusion - and is the murder really the person you think it is? I suggest that you read to find out - it kept me intrigued from start to finish - I like her writing style, and will be reading more of this authors books in the future ...more
